LUCIEN
I was twenty years old when I saw my mate for the first time and she was just eight years old. I began to dream of her but never understood my dream and why I kept dreaming of a young human girl until I saw the girl in my dream in real life for the first time.
Lyall had recognized her and I had told him she was only a child and couldn't be my mate. Everyone was finding their mate at that time but I didn't have mine yet.
Before I saw my mate, Emily and I had something going on between us. She's someone I grew up with and she was my first kiss and my first everything.
Even when I recognized my mate, I still refused to accept it because she was just a child and I have had a crush on Emily for a long time. Knowing Emily felt the same for me made it easy for the both of us and we began to date, hoping the moon goddess would finally make us mate but after a year, I realized that I wasn't feeling it and I kept dreaming of the same girl who is barely a teenager.
It drove me crazy until I met Chauncey who had appeared in my dream to make me understand that everything happening is destined by the moon goddess.
"I wish you would understand," I sighed.
I wish I could tell her that I already found my mate. I wish I could tell her that my mate is with me but that would only be complicating things and knowing Emily, she might do some things that could jeopardize a lot.
"What is there to not understand Lucien? For years I've waited patiently for you hoping that you would finally come back to your senses and things would work out fine for us but no, who was I kidding?" She threw her hands in the air.
"Emily. I already made it clear to you that we are both not each other's mate and you will find your mate soon and..."
"I'm twenty-six for crying out loud and I'm yet to see my mate. Everyone else has found their mate except the both of us and you don't think it's destiny? We are both meant for each other and you know that. You don't have a mate and I don't have a mate and that's it. It's simple. Just do the maths Lucien. We are both smart so do the math." She chided.
I have a mate! I've found my mate! I already knew my mate since I was eighteen and got to see her in person at age twenty. I wanted to say all those words to her but I just couldn't.
The words rang in my head yet the words didn't come out of my mouth.
The skin between her brows creased in confusion.
She came closer to me with a soft look on my face. "Why are you doing this to me?" Tears glistened in her eyes and I felt bad for her.
It's all my fault. I shouldn't have gotten together with her when I knew who my mate was. I shouldn't have but I did and now it's all like this. I shouldn't have had s*x with her because of my needs and it made me feel bad because I gave her hope.
"But how is it possible that you haven't found your mate? How is it possible?" I asked also in a whisper.
It just doesn't seem right. In our pack. Every werewolf would find their mate at age eighteen to twenty.
Was her mate dead? I thought to myself. Something just doesn't seem right. Because it is not proper for her to still desire me and her wolf is okay with it when she has a mate.
She moved back a little from me. "Are you asking me why I haven't found my mate? Maybe because you are my mate," she replied.
"No. It's not possible that I am your mate because I..." I trailed off remembering that I can't tell her about my mate.
"Because what? You do realize that the fact we've been sleeping with each other could have done something right? You do know that right?" She rose her brows in a questioning manner.
Something doesn't seem right. I have a mate and she doesn't. It's either he's dead, he doesn't exist or she has met him but refused to accept him. It's either of those three but I couldn't ask her that.
"You know what?" She exhaled deeply.
"I'm going to leave you for now. I can see you are still lost in whatever and that's why I'm leaving. I will be leaving now. I will come back and I hope you would be in the right frame of mind because you have a duty to your pack and also I am ready to help. Everyone is waiting for us. You better stop delaying already," she uttered.
"You are twenty-eight. Remember that and you can just be in the human world thinking of your business and being the renowned billionaire because, before all of this, you are an Alpha first," she reminded before walking away. I watched her retreating step and I sink into my chair, running my finger through my hair.
I thought about all that she said. I have thought of it all. My parents will be forced to come here if I keep delaying. I cannot wait for the next full moon so that I can go back and do the needful.

"Welcome, sir." My maid Rhoda said to me as soon as I stepped feet into my mansion. She took my bag from my hand.
"How is Diane?" I asked her.
"She's doing fine." She replied to me and I sighed.
I put my right hand into my pant pocket.
"Did she eat or did she throw tantrum?" I asked.
Rhoda shook her head. "She has refused to eat and has also refused to leave the bed. She has been sobbing since," she replied and I felt my best clenched.
"I tried speaking to her. I tried making her understand but she doesn't want to and I..." she trailed off and I didn't need her to complete her sentence to know what it is that she wants to say to me.
"Okay."
That was all I said before I walked to my room to take a long shower.
While in the shower, I couldn't help but be bothered by what is happening. I want to get Diane to like me. I want her to believe me. I've tried my best but she's making it difficult.
I left the shower. Removed my robe and made my way to the room Diane was in.
I hated when I reached her door. I wanted to knock but I do not know what to say to her. I hope she gets to know me.
I've promised to let her go and I meant it. I will let her go after I show her that I am indeed a werewolf and werewolf exist.
Just then Rhoda came with a tray of food and I collected it from her.
"Worry not, I'd give it to her," I told her and she nodded her head in understanding.
I took on a deep breath and exhaled. For eighteen years old, Diane was indeed stressing a grown man like me.
I knocked on her door. I got no answer and so I knocked again. I got no answer still which meant even if I knock from now till tomorrow, she won't reply to me and so I entered the room, opened the door as gently as I can, and walked towards her bed.
She was sleeping in a position that showed her back and I exhaled quietly.
"Hey," I said when I placed the food I came with on the nightstand.
She turned to face the other side so that she wouldn't be looking at me and I felt my heart sink.
"I brought food," I said, sitting down beside her on the bed.
I do not like that she is feeling this way. I want her to be comfortable with it.
I didn't know what it is that I can say to her to get her to speak to me. To get her to open up to me.
"I promised to let you go Diane and I will. I do not like to see you this way," I began, hoping that there will be more to say but I paused as I couldn't form any word in my head.
"Werewolves are real and I can prove that to you," I tell her.
I didn't know why I had not thought about it soon but it just occurred to me.
"Please take a look at me," I told her but she doesn't move so I go to the other side so that she can see.
I am holding the fork I brought so she could use it to eat with me my hand.
She turns to the other side of the bed so that she wouldn't see my face and I go over there.
"Just please see what it is that I want to show you. This should be enough to tell you that I am a werewolf, we exist and you are my mate," I told her, my voice sounded desperate, maybe because I am desperate.
"Bullshit." I heard her mutter.
"Okay then. What do you say about this," I said before stabbing my palm with the fork?
I watched as her eyes widened in shock when I stabbed myself.
"Are you mad?” She sounded lower r than she anticipated, I guess.
"What do you say about this?" I pulled the fork from my palm and slowly my palm got covered her leaving her in more shock.
"Holy shit." She muttered.
