Hayden  “The poor girl…” The Dr sniffles as she dabs her eyes with a tissue.  “What is it?” I ask, feeling sick to hear the answer.  “Well where should I start? The poor thing has been beaten, from the looks of the bruises it wasn’t a one time thing, some of them are months old. I wouldn’t be surprised if she has been abused for years… She has some major ones on her spine and her hip, it’s a miracle she has been up and walking. She must have an extremely high pain tolerance. Her hip was out of place, as was her shoulder, looks to have been that way for a while. Putting it back in it’s socket was challenging as it had started to heal incorrectly. She is going to be in a lot of pain when she wakes up. The most concerning thing though..” she trails off  “What?” I croak out  “She was very recently raped… She has some internal bleeding from it… that’s why she was bleeding so much.” She whispers.  “Is she going to be alright?” I ask, my voice hard. I will murder whoever did this to her.  “She will need a lot of rest, but she will physically be okay.. Mentally is another thing. I don’t know if she will ever be able to recover” The Dr says quietly. She gives me a few different prescriptions to have filled for her and leaves.  I sit by Savina for a few hours before I run to the closest pharmacy to fill the prescriptions, not wanting her to be in pain when she wakes up. I stop by the store quickly to get some soup for when she wakes up, out of the corner of my eye, I see some flowers in the store. I quickly grab them and pay making my way back home.  She is still fast asleep when I return, I place the flowers beside her on the nightstand. She looks a bit cold so I add another blanket to her, I sit beside her and wait.  She mutters in her sleep for a while, her face drawn into a harsh frown. After a few hours I drift off, waking when I hear a soft cough.  “Savina?” My eyes widen when I see she is finally awake. She looks around, terrified, trying to get up. I gently hold her down.  “Shh.. It’s okay. Don’t try to get up. You need to rest” I urge her to stay still. She looks at me for a moment before she settles down. She just stares at me, not saying a word. We stare at each other before she closes her eyes once more. I watch her sleep for a bit before drifting back off myself. I find myself at a river, in the middle of the forest. There is nothing in sight, I see Savina sitting near the water’s edge. I slowly walk towards her, I must be in her dream. I try not to scare her as I come up behind her,  “Savina?” I call out, she turns to look at me, her eyes swollen and red.  “Hayden?” She sobs “Hayden, help me!”  “I’m right here Savina.. I won’t let anyone hurt you again” I put an arm around her and pull her close to my body. She pulls away after a moment,  “How did you find me Hayden? Nobody knows this place” She looks at me confused.  “I know many things Savina.. Things you wouldn’t believe even if you saw it happening before your eyes” I look her in the eyes, gauging her reaction. She looks unfazed by my answer.  “You know, I felt like you were familiar when I first met you… that feeling is getting stronger and stronger” I just smile at her, nodding my head.  “Does that mean we do know each other?” She tilts her head to the side.  “We used to..” I shrug and stand up, holding my hand out to her, I help her to her feet and we start to walk. The forest is calm and the birds are chirping. We don’t say much as we walk side by side, our bodies brush against one another every now and then. I want to reach out and take her hand, but I don’t know how she would react, but it is only a dream so why not test the waters. I reach my hand out confidently, taking hers, she gives me a small squeeze but doesn’t say anything. Holding her hand feels so natural to me.  I am pulled out of the dream suddenly, when I hear her phone start to ring. I look at the screen to see who it is, “Troy” reads across the screen. I was stupid to think she wouldn’t have had a boyfriend, but she called me not him. For all I know he is the one who did this to her. I feel the rage start to boil up inside me once more. I throw the phone to the side, looking back at Savina.  She starts to open her eyes a short time later, she looks around the room, her eyes landing on me. I can see immense sorrow fill them, all the pain and regret she feels starts to seep its way inside me.  “How do you feel?” I ask as I hand her a glass of water “Honestly? Stupid” She looks at the bed instead of making eye contact with me.  “Well, I have to admit, what you did was very stupid. You almost died, if I hadn’t found you… you probably would have been. I told you if you needed to help to call me. What do you do? You call to say goodbye before you try and kill yourself.... Savina..” I try to stay calm but inside I am a raging storm.  “I’m sorry, but you don’t know anything. Don’t try to make sense of what you don’t understand” She snaps her head up to look at me, unshed tears line her eyes.  “Your right, I’m sorry… why don’t you tell me then?”  She takes a deep breath and starts her story.
