Chapter 3 Landen offers Seraphina Haven a job

1524 Words
Landen drove to La Histeria Mexican restaurant. Sera had wanted to try it, ever since it opened 12 months ago. They specialized in cocktails and Mexican themed drinks. They also served a loaded nacho dish that had flank steak, avocado, three types of cheeses and pretty much what ever else you wanted on it. She ordered a plate for the table, she didn't think she could eat it all by herself. He ordered them the flaming cucaracha shot. It had tequila and kahlua. When the drinks arrived, Sera blew hers out and downed it. "OMG girl, get it!" Landen wasn't expecting her to know what to do with it. "You know I went to Evergreen state college right? Dread locks and bare feet are the norm there." She said. Landen laughed his deep giggling rumble. This made Sera laugh as well. She laughed so hard at his laugh that she snorted. They asked for another shot. By the 4th shot of La flaming cucaracha, they were ready for their nachos. It was so much fun for Sera to just be herself. She plied Landen with stories of speaking to the dead and how people reacted to her. He asked her if it was lucrative. "No, I don't charge for that," she said. "Can I ask what you majored in at college?" he asked. She responded "Guess!" she said. He replied,"Hmm, telecommunications, no-biology?" She shook her head, her blond hair swaying with the movement. He was fascinated by her looks and her every move. "If I was a different type of man, I would be quite enamored with you my girl!" She laughed, feeling the alcohol. "What does that even mean?" He smiled. "Honey I like boys too." Sera nodded, "Oh well I am not a boy then." She was so fun to be around. "I majored in psychology of course." He said,"Okay, what's the dealio with hunky cop then?" She sneered. She was shouting now over the loud music, "I really loved him in grade school, hmm secondary, primary, high school. Well, always, until he ran me over with his car and broke my leg." She made a hand signal like a plane crashing. "Pfft all done, for whatever reason, I had the black plague, he never spoke to me again. What did I do? I didn't even have my gift at that time, so it wasn't that, makes a girl have a complex, ya know?" He nodded. "Hey, I have a great idea! You working? I mean do you have a job that you like?" She shook her head. "No, I was hoping you were buying tonight." He laughed. "What if you came to the radio station and did your thing for people that call in?" She shrugged, "I never tried it over the phone, not sure it would work." Landen held her hand. "Just think about it!" She nodded. She squeezed his hand and felt those tell tell trendils of her gift being activated. Her eyes rolled back, she fell into a trance. Lights flashed... She was in a room, she saw Landen lying on the floor. There was a microphone, he had a head set on. He was lying there, dead. Shot in the back. She felt his pain. Her back was on fire. She saw a figure dressed in all black with a hood on. She couldn't tell if it was a man or woman. She could tell that whoever they were, they were pure evil. She was holding her breath now. She felt her hand shaking. Flash back to the present.... Landen was shaking her hand and calling her name. He looked very worried. He was standing over her. She felt his spirit. He was alive! "Thank God!" He asked her a question. She felt very foggy. Her eyes fluttered open. She had seen all of this with her eyes closed. She grabbed his arm. He said, "Whoah, maybe one too many coctails!" She shuddered. She didn't know how to tell him that she had just had a vision of how he would die. She wiped her brow, she was sweating now, she blamed the Jalapeños. He made her drink some water. He was worried about her. He told her he would get her home. She nodded. They rose from the table, Landen paid. They walked arm in arm out the door. The man in the booth behind them had heard every word they had said. He saw Seraphina Haven have some sort of a spell. He heard every word that she had said about him. He got up and threw his napkin down. He left a few bills on the table. The waitress came over, "You know there's no charge officer Blaze, we owe you for catching those thieves last month." He nodded and smiled at her. He always left money on the table whenever he ate there any way. If they used it for his meal or for her tip, he didn't care. He quickly moved to ride out, he jumped onto his jet black motorcycle. He liked to ride whenever the weather allowed for it. It made him feel free and incognito. With his black helmet, no one knew him. He pondered at what Sera had said about him. How she had loved him throughout school. He was sure that she hated him now. He had liked her too- back then, but he was a shy boy. When he had hurt her in that accident his parents lawyer had drilled in him the importance of not contacting her ever again, the family would settle with her family, they were afraid of a law suit. It killed him to see her hobble up that stage to get her diploma. He had wanted to go to her, to help her. He rubbed his eyes, it was starting to rain now. He needed to zoom out of there. He reved up the bike and roared off towards his home. Sera was deep in thought after Landen had driven her home. She had wondered if or how to tell Landen about her vision of him being murdered. She decided that she should ask her mother. She would see her in the morning. She was still a little bit tipsy. She pulled off her pink sweat shirt and unbuttoned her white blouse. She removed her skinny jeans and crawled into her warm, cozy bed. Her mind went to Jason Blaze. She was telling the truth that he didn't want anything to do with her. But her truth was a little different. She felt a pull towards him. She couldn't explain it. She just felt that he would be a part of her s********e how. She rubbed her head and tried to remember what he'd said to her the last time she saw him. He was trying to get as far away from her as he could. She lifted her arm to smell her arm pit. She sniffed -well that's not it. She would talk to her mother about the radio show that Landen had mentioned. She always listened to her mother's advice. She wouldn't tell her father. Silver lived in the practical world, the tangible world. He had hated her gift. He was afraid of it. He saw how people reacted to her, most would steer clear of her. Sera fell asleep with Jason on her mind. She had dreamed that Jason was walking her down the aisle. She had this dream every day when she was a school girl. She hadn't had the dream for a while though. In her dreams her father had walked her down the aisle. Rose petals on the path. She had a white veil on. The man, her groom had his back to her. She couldn't see his face. She approached him, as he turned to face her, it was Mr.Blaze. He was in a black tuxedo. Jason smiled at her and touched her ear. He felt the diamond earrings that he had given her earlier that day, a wedding gift for his bride. He kissed her hand. He whispered in her ear." Mine forever now." She blushed. She only saw him now, all of the wedding guests had faded into white clouds. He grabbed her hand and they ran off down the isle. They did it. They got married. It seemed like it would never happen. There were so many obstacles to overcome. Her love tank was full. As she dreamed vividly, Jason Blaze dreamed as well. He dreamt about Sera being taken. The person after her was closing in in her. She was in grave danger. He couldn't get to her. He saw her hold her head as she started to scream. She was scared. He tried to get to her, he couldn't reach her. Time was running out. He woke up in a cold sweat. He sat up and grabbed his phone. He looked her up on her social media page. He had needed to see her picture, one where she was whole. Where she smiled at the camera, not a picture of her face being in agony. He breathed hard.
