Blaze gave his new wife a bouquet of roses. She looked down at the gold ring on her finger. "Are we married for real?"
He nodded, pulling her towards the door. She started to cry now. "This is not what we had planned." He shrugged. "Life usually isn't as planned. But you gotta do what you gotta do." She frowned. " Mom and dad are going to be upset when I tell them." Blaze dialed Silvers number. "Your daughter wants to talk to you about her disappointing wedding tonight."
"He knows? and he just let it happen? I don't want to talk to him!" She hung up the phone and marched off down the hallway. She threw the flowers in the garbage can and walked out into the bright lights of Vegas, the town that never sleeps.
She was mad as hell and hungry. Blaze followed her from a distance. He needed that marriage certificate to protect her. He didn't tell her that they were leaving the country as he had gotten an assignment in Brazil. He would be there for a few months. Only immediate family were allowed to come. She was now his immediate family.
He had gotten the unfortunate news when he had arrived at the police station. He guessed that this was John Beards, his dirty CO's -way of making him disappear for a while. He couldn't see any way out of it, without drawing his commanding officers suspicion. He sure as hell wasn't leaving Sera behind, unprotected. She would understand as soon as he could catch up to her to tell her.
She marched down the strip, stopping to give a homeless man a dollar. She waved at him as she went into a brightly lit casino. "Wow, how do we play these games?" She was drawn to a large, brightly lit game. It had clowns on it. She read the panel and stuck a dollar bill in, then pressed a button and the machine spun its reals, then made a an annoying beeping noise. It said to add more funds.
She got up and moved on as the machine kept beeping. She followed her nose to delicous smell of baked chicken. She wasn't sure, maybe pizza. She walked up to the entrance and stood by the sign that said, please wait to be seated . She waited. When the hostess arrived, she asked," How many," Sera said, "one."
Blaze interrupted her, "No, two my love." She sneered at him. The hostess didn't bat an eye, it was Vegas after all, she'd seen everything. Sera moved quickly to the table, looking at the glorious buffet as she passed by.
The hostess took their drink orders and held her hand out towards the hot food, " enjoy."
Sera didn't wait for Blaze, she was starving. He followed behind her amused at all of the food she was putting on her plate. "No way, put that back, you're going too far now!" Seeing the huge steak that she had loaded on top of her full plate. She hesitated, "your right, I need another plate for this one." She flopped the large bloody steak on a second plate. She smiled and proudly marched back to the table.
Blaze grabbed a piece of chicken and a side salad. He was very interested in where she planned to put all of this food. After about a fourth of the food was gone, she looked up at him and asked him, "would my new husband like to carry me home now?" The couple sitting in the booth next to them over heard that Sera said they were newly married. They ordered a slice of cake to be sent over to the new love bird's table.
The hostess returned with a huge slice of white cake. She had a microphone with her. "Excuse me everyone, please turn your attention to"...she leaned over to Blaze, your name please?" He choked on his chicken then. Sera stood up, "Why thank you! We are the Havens, Mrs and Mister," keeping her maiden name.
She went to give the microphone back to the hostess as she grazed her hand, she immediately felt a spirit moving in her. She looked at the older woman. She was dressed all in black with thick red lipstick and a rose in her piled high hairdo. She stopped her as she was turning to leave the table. " Do you know who Donald is?" The woman smiled," Is this your husband," looking at Blaze. Sera shook her head and turned it to the side. "He said he was your husband, and that you cheated on him with his own brother, Stephen. Maybe Sven, or Seth. Well it's not clear to me." The woman took a step back, she looked shocked. She dropped the mic.
Sera went on, rubbing her temples. She leaned in to whisper. "He said he was sorry, he wasn't a very good husband to you, he wants you to forgive him." Sera sat down, full and totally exhausted.
The hostess slowly backed away, blinking tears from her eyes as she went. Blaze stood up, he took a $20. bill out of his pocket and placed it on the table. He picked up his bride, held her in his arms and started to walk out.
The whole resturaunt stood up and clapped, cheering him on. One woman cried, " Oh how romantic." He saw that Sera was breathing heavy. He took her out to the fresh air. She clung to him, wrapping her arms around his neck. She whispered, "You smell good. Please, take me home Mr.Haven ." He nodded and carried her all of the way. He put his card into the door, unlocking it. He dropped his bride on her queen bed. He removed her shoes and covered her up. He sat down next to her as he worked on his travel arrangements.
They were flying to Brazil tomorrow. After a while, he closed his laptop and lay down beside her, over the covers. He nuzzle her neck and held her hand. This was the first time either of them had spooned together. He kissed her hair. She said, "I don't feel so well Blaze, my tummy hurts." He decided to sleep on the other bed.
