Back in the resistance hideout.
“Lily” Helen stood from where she had sat to check on her. Though she was freezing but the sudden mention of her mother by Lily meant something.
“I…I…think I can feel the queen’s presence. It’s just a feeling” Lily’s face had doubt written over it, she wasn’t certain what she felt but after she realized everyone was staring at her forced a smile and walked up to the dining table.
“Stop staring at me and come have proper food will you” Lily laughed but that laugh was forced to; Helen knew something was not right with her but nodded for everyone to head back to the dining table. Jasper controlled the fire ring he had around Ruby and Rose back into his hand then extinguished it before they all joined the moving crowd at the dining; Thankfully…the chairs was enough to contain them all since the dining was long and huge; the table was a long hall table which had decorated white top, the chairs were very comfortable, had the same design with the table including the white back rest and polished legs.
“Thinking I had the worst day…I guess you guys days was far worse” Garnet sighed softly before resting his well defined cheekbones on the his palms.
“How do you mean? Weren’t you guys home throughout?” Helen asked dishing herself some salad.
“Nope…we actually went grocery shopping” Amber sighed out heavily passing the fruit salad to Jasper who had requested it.
“Well, my guts told me…it’s way more than that” Helen danced her brows before dishing her rice.
“More like demon shopping” Garnet muttered under his breath as he just watched everyone try to get themselves food.
“So you were attacked?” Helen asked sounding like it wasn’t much of big deal actually they get attacked everyday.
“Yes, we’ll be dead if it wasn’t for Nina and Dylan…I still don’t get how the royal mate demon thing works though” Hematite spoke this time.
“What are you trying to say?” Helen asked meeting Dylan’s eyes for a couple of seconds before turning back to Hematite who had actually spoken in the first place.
“Nina had linked herself to the ancestral by imprinting his mate, a new line had been opened so she’s now the queen of all the demons…she can control them now; I guess soon they’ll stop attacking us-
“Vera is not under her command” Lily cut into Hematite’s explanation.
“They will find a way to severe that line, it is a very stupid move to imprint him so soon, he’s in danger and he’s a target. You might have unlocked the powers and abilities of the past demon royals who had ruled before you but the moment Dylan is killed that is it and that’s what demons who want to severe the bond will keep looking for…you’ve put him danger” Lily’s contribution had everyone going quiet. Nina suddenly felt bad about what she did.
Nina met Dylan’s eyes briefly, he looked worried but she had no idea why he was…she knew she could protect him if he allow her to but not when he was still partially in love with the princess, unable to hold back the tears that surfaced to her eyes she stood and hastily head upstairs.
“Nina” She heard Dylan called behind him but it didn’t matter to her she just ran to her room. She couldn’t contain her pain…having lost everything she felt…she felt she could at least have her own mate but that seems to be out of bound for her as well. She felt bitter but she held back her tears afraid anyone would catch her crying.
‘I don’t belong with the angels anyway…they will always get on my nerve’ Nina thought staring out the window but the creeping of the door draw her attention so, she turned to see who it was and was surprised to see Dylan, she didn’t expect him to follow her up.
“What is it? Are you here to nag me as well…for doing what I did? Or do you want an apology for putting you in danger?” Nina bombarded him with question but Dylan just signed.
“It’s not a crime to have a mate Nina, you just wanted to claim what was yours regardless of the consequences” Dylan soft words and calm demeanor had Nina’s stiff shoulders relaxing, she smiled realising he just admitted he belonged to her.
“I won’t blame you for what you did-
“I did it for them” Nina cut in sharply and Dylan quirked a brow wondering what she meant by what she meant.
“I thought if I imprint you and activate the new line…I would be able to control all the demons that seems to be giving them so much trouble” Nina explained and Dylan’s jaw dropped in surprise. She was only trying to help…it caught him by surprise.
“I’m sorry I put you in such a danger, trust me I meant well…I have no idea it’ll put you in such a danger, I didn’t-” Dylan abruptly grabbed her hand pull her close before she could protest, his lips found its way to hers. A feeling of serene and peace mixed with pleasure spread through Dylan as Nina moved her hand up into his hair grabbing a handful of his ombre hair.
Nina had always found Dylan very attractive even before she realised he was her mate, in her opinion no one wouldn't. Dylan was a 22years old but still has a cool, calm serene voice anytime he talked;unlike many guys his age, he didn’t possess the deep husky voice that came with their age, his marble gray eye would compete with the colour of the crying sky, he was slim and tall, but that didn’t make him stand out as much as his slightly tanned caramel skin. Nina took her time in exploring his bow-shaped lips, something which was mostly possessed by the opposite gender.
By the time Dylan opened his eyes, his shirt was already undone and NIna was already pushing him towards the bed.
“Nina..we shouldn't” Nina shut his protest by taking his lips in hers while undoing his trousers.
****
Helen was worried about Nina after she left but everyone assume she needed hiss time alone especially with Dylan…but she just couldn’t den to herself that she didn’t like the possibility that something might be going on between the two; not that it matters to her since she already has a mate.
“Helen” Alex called her attention and she jolted a little being suddenly drawn out of her reverie.
“Yes-
“You zone out” Alex sounded annoyed as he pointed out for her. She had paused on her food after Dylan went after Nina and since then she felt uncomfortable.
“Just had some stuffs on my mind” Helen forced him a laugh but his face was still stiff.
“Some stuff like Nina and Dylan?” Everyone by the dining paused their chatters on hearing his silent accusation.
“What do you mean by that?” Helen coughed out a faint laugh but Alex’s face was blank and straight spelling out his seriousness.
“Of course not Alex, it’s none of my business what those two do anymore after all they are mate” Helen answered with an uncomfortable shrug.
“What if they weren’t?” Alex pressured further while staring into Helen’s eyes for a genuine answer.
“Are you suddenly clouded by your jealousy that you mistrust every word I say?” Helen's question had Alex slapping her palm on the dining table before standing up with irritation all written over his face. He headed straight for the stairs without giving Helen a second glance but Lily met Helen’s gaze and head-gestured for her to go after him since it appears he was in a terrible mood.
Helen exhaled softly and draw back her seat before heading for the stairs as well trying to catch up with her mate but she paused at the landing staring at the opposite hallway were Nina’s room was located, she was tempted to go check what they were up to, but she had to remind herself again that they were mates and it was none of her business. She inhaled and exhaled deeply as she slowly walked into her room to see Alex playing with a fire made dragon that was dancing around his finger tips, but he squished them in his palm immediately she walked in. Not wanting to be the first to talk to him firsts, she walked into her closet and pulled out few clothes, then she found few of her clothes on the floor, no one could have done it except Nina since the clothes she was wearing belonged to her; Helen concluded in her head before drawing down the complete sweatshirts she had on.
“You’re really going to ignore me?” Helen asked after walking back into the room to see Alex still fixed in the position she had left him.
“What do you want me to say Helen? Since you found out that he wasn’t the one who hurt you but a demon that was controlling him; you’ve been treating him quite differently and I can’t lie that I’m okay with it…maybe you still love him and you are only with me because I’m your mate” Helen fear the truth in his words but she was pretty certain she was in love with him too.
“Alex-
“Deny it” He pressured as he maintained his locked gaze with Helen whose heart was now beating so hard in her chest in fear of hurting her mate.
“Alex-
“Just deny it Helen, tell me you don’t love him, tell me you love me instead” Alex abruptly rose from the bed he was seated as he questioned Helen’s love for him.
“I love you…a lot Alexandrite” Helen replied slowly and softly as she walked closer to Alex whose expression had softened by her words.
“And I hope you will never doubt my love for you ever again” Helen was now wearing her serious look, making Alex worry for a minute but she closed the gap between them and place a soft kiss on his lips before pulling away with a disturbed expression on her face all of a sudden.
“What’s wrong?” Alex questioned taking her hand in his.
“Don’t you feel that?” Helen asked raising her head up.
“An aura-
“Familiar but powerful” Helen raced out of her room, down the hallway and stairs only to stop at the edge of the stairs after seeing the magnificent that stood at the entrance while the rest of her group immediately surround. They were all staring at the royal figure in awe and Helen couldn’t blame them, the queen’s sudden presence could astound them that much.
“Mom” Helen called out after her eyes met with that of the queen before she retract in her glimmering wings.
