Cleo’s pov

“Baby, please don’t cry because I am going to go back and kill him!” Adelaine says sniffling and hugs me tightly.

I bury my face in her neck and I break into sobbing. My neck and jaw are burning, I am sure my skin has gotten red and my makeup is a mess. I can’t stop crying these two minutes, everything hurts and my head is killing me.

I don’t know why it hurts so much or what hurts more!

Maybe I can’t understand Thor and his behavior is confusing me. I have no idea what is happening with him, he doesn’t want me as his mate but he cares and not only in the simple way, I mean… He is jealous and he says he wants me (only for s*x, I am sure) and I…

I just don’t accept it but it hurts watching him behaving like I am his toy because I am not!

There is no way I agree in anything with him because I can’t forget or forgive him after all these!

He wanted Lillian, he is still choosing her, he isn’t telling me why he took this decision but he wants me as something… Cheap!

FUCK OFF ASSHOLE THOR! I WISH YOU BURN IN HELL!

And also… Now the guys know and it’s fine when it comes to Adelaine and Gabriel although I wish they knew nothing because they will be sad for me but what is killing me the most is Finn!

He is going to ‘tease’ me for this, Thor is his best friend, he never liked me, I will have to work with him all the time and he is that b***h’s friend as well!

I will never be able to ‘forget’ now!

“Why didn’t you let me kill him? Why?” Clea shouts furious at me and I sob worse.

Even she is mad at me now and I did nothing wrong, I put him in his place, I told him that I am going to reject him and I will, I…

“Cleo?!” Gabriel exclaims and I pull back the moment my room’s door opens and he gets in clearly in tension with William behind him.

“I am sorry!” I mutter still crying and Adelaine caresses my back while Gabriel walks to us, sits on my bed next to me and hugs me.

“There is nothing to forgive you about baby unlike that asshole’s!” he says through his teeth and kisses my forehead.

“Aren’t you mad I didn’t tell you?” I ask timidly still nervous and the two of them shake their heads negatively.

“It is certain that you found out everything three days ago but he already knew, he had turned 16 when you were still best friends… Right?” he asks and I nod shortly sniffling and he wipes my tears.

“And now everything makes perfect sense… This is why your mom found you crying after your meeting with him, why he got so mad when your father said about the ‘pregnancy’ and Kevin, why you behave him so coldly and he is angry all the time…” Adelaine continues with acknowledge and for once more I nod.

“And what happened this time? When did you leave and I didn’t notice you?” William asks still away from as with his back against my door, his hands crossed on his chest and a cold, frustrated expression.

“I think he got jealous or mad again because I saw a friend of mine from the college. He is Kevin’s best friend, he mentioned Kev is planning to come and… I guess this is when he lost it! We left excusing ourselves because we wanted to sign the papers and you were nowhere to be found… When we got in his office he… I don’t know… I got mad, he wasn’t giving me the papers and we ended up fighting.” I reply almost breathless and he growls with Gabriel tightening his hold around me.

“It was just a cheap excuse… He wasn’t planning to give them!” William murmurs sighing heavily.

“He got mad because the other males had been staring at you the entire time.” Adelaine adds and the boys shake their hands in agreement.

“I can’t believe it, really… Why would he do this to you? And…” she continues and pauses thoughtfully.

I narrow my eyes confused and Gabriel stiffens like he knows what she is thinking about while William starts walking to us and sits next to Gabriel with a blank expression I think I know…

“What is it?” I ask worried and Adelaine raises her eyebrows in frustration.

She is so calm generally so now what…

“He is not so close with Lillian… He doesn’t seem so ‘in love’…” she replies and Gabriel groans.

“In fact they don’t look in love at all!” he states and William nods cursing under his breath.

“I don’t understand, I am getting crazy!” Adelaine mutters and squeezes my hand with a sympathetic smile.

“Something is wrong here…” William says and exhales heavily.

“What if she is blackmailing him with something?” Gabriel asks thoughtfully.

“Then why did he send her away and she agreed to go and leave him here alone with me?” I ask not really believing this possibility.

“Cleo is right… She is his mate and it is difficult for him to stay away from her, well, he can’t as we saw so… She wouldn’t like to play with it! She wouldn’t want to risk it and someone understands… She doesn’t even look like she knows that I am aware of everything one year now!” William says and Gabriel snaps his head to him.

“Did you know? Really?”

“Yes… He told me by accident but from that moment he keeps on denying it!”

“Man, you should have told us!” Gabriel exclaims with complaint and I stiffen watching William’s guilt written on his face.

This is not his fault, he did it to help me, he didn’t want them to worry.

“Look… It’s fine, he did it for the best so let’s forget about it!” I say quickly and Gabriel gives a short look to Adelaine that shakes her head in agreement with me.

“Fine but now what do we do? I mean, what are you planning to do, this is about you… And… Him.” he says next and turns to me with wary.

I smile at him warmly and tap his arm with Adelaine moving even closer to me. William leans forward so he can look at me and I take a deep breath already knowing what I want.

I have taken my own decisions like Thor did and I am certain, my heart knows this is for the best!

“I don’t want him in my life, he chose her, I choose to stay away from him! I will reject him but I need to calm down first! I will try to stay here the most I can but I want to warn you from now for the possibility of me leaving. The King offered me a place in his army if I want to go and I will think of it seriously.” I reply and they all freeze for some seconds.

“Are you… Leaving us?” Adelaine asks first whispering and I press my lips together nervously.

Fuck, this hurts!

“Adel…” I start and stop trembling ready to start crying again.

She is devastated, I know this expression of hers, she is shaking, she has turned pale and she is not breathing…

“I will never leave you alone but I can’t stay here either… You saw him…” I mutter trembling and she nods looking at the red marks from Thor’s tight hold on my neck and jaw.

“We had to kill him!” Gabriel growls and William stands up and walks in front of me.

He kneels on my feet and takes my hands in his. Adelaine and Gabriel place their hands on my back and I lower my head ashamed.

I feel horrible, look how sad they got because of me…

“The truth is we don’t want you to leave, you are our sister, we love you and we need you here but… This is the best thing you can do when the right time comes… It’s a great chance for you and you deserve such an honor from our King! We will be sad but… We will be happy as well!” William states smiling emotionally.

“And proud!” Gabriel adds and I sniffle again.

At this point I think I can tell them what else I want… I will surely need their help and we will have some fun like some years ago.

“And… I thought of something else that it could help me… I want to stay away from Thor, that… b***h and Finn and my grandma’s house could be a good solution sometimes…” I say smiling innocently and Adelaine giggles and kisses my cheek.

“Don’t worry! We are going to help you clean it up, repair it and do anything else you want! I have nothing to do now with the pregnancy anyway and I am bored so I can take care of it personally!” she says excited and I smile thankfully.

“Hell yeah! We can go there just the four of us sometimes and have fun! We won’t leave you alone!” Gabriel yells like a small boy and I laugh.

Thanks God it went well in the end…

“You are the best!” I say emotional and William smirks.

“No baby… You are and now that I am thinking about it, why are we staying here? We have to celebrate for you!”

“But it is obvious that I was crying, look at me! They are going to understand…” I reply quickly pointing my neck and he rolls his eyes and stands up pulling me to stand as well.

He gives a short look to Gabriel and Adelaine that join us with a wicked smile and I narrow my eyes confused.

“What?” I ask troubled and he leans closer to me smirking like the devil he can be sometimes.

This is going to be interesting even though in the end we will be in troubles but do you know what?

I f*****g don’t care!

“Fix your makeup and take your car’s key… We are leaving and you are driving! f**k everyone else for tonight!” he whispers and I gasp excited.

YES!

“Just tell me where we are going…”

“At the city, for clubbing!”

~at the same time, somewhere too far away~

Unknown person’s pov

“Any news?” he asks me worried from the door and I sigh heavily.

“Come grandpa… Close the door and come in!” I say nervously and observe him.

He takes two steps, gets in my office and closes the door in silence with his eyes filled with wary and fear. I guess he has a feeling because of our connection… We are coming from a strong bloodline, our pack is a myth for almost everyone and our existence is a secret for most of the supernatural world.

All these mean that we have stronger senses than the usual and we have almost nothing to do with other werewolves so he is sharing my feelings and this is why he is here.

“I am impressed it wasn’t my mother…” I murmur stiffening, my eyes get darker and he sits opposite of me.

He has grown up a lot the last years, he is suffering and the reason is serious. We are all dying but he is way worse, like my mother… Watching her in so much pain is a torture for all of us and especially me but for my grandpa is… A living nightmare!

We nearly lost her and she has passed through so many things and nothing is over till now, it won’t be until she comes back to us…

“She is sleeping… They…”

“Drugged her!” I end his phrase and he nods firmly.

“They did the right thing, these last days she is crying all the time, she is having panic attacks and she is getting worse…” he continues and I run my hand through my hair.

“She is waiting for her…” I whisper trembling while looking at him in the eyes and he gives me a weak, broken smile.

Thanks Goddess I have him and my friends that are like brothers for me or else I would have gotten crazy! We are a united family, we love each other very much and under these circumstances we have gotten even closer.

“We all do my boy… And we are doing our best, he is never leaving her side and she is taking care of her the most she can…” he says trying to seem strong and not get emotional.

I observe his features for a while and my heart aches. His dark green eyes have lost their shine and his face has broken a lot… He is such a royal man, tall with grey hair, beautiful face’s structure with board chest and shoulders and a very imposing aura. I am lucky I have him because standing on my mother’s side on my own is a torture but this costs us because she is his daughter and he is dying inside, I know it, I see it…

“I am glad I have you!” I whisper and stand up.

I walk quickly to him and sit on the chair next to his in front of my office, I take his hands in mine and he smiles emotionally.

“And I am glad I have you! I wouldn’t have made it without you, with your mother in this condition and…” he replies and pauses sighing overwhelmed.

Some tears fall from his eyes and my heart breaks!

This is the second time I see him crying and the first one was 19 years ago and back then I was three years old but I can still remember it clearly, I am never going to forget it!

“Shh… Calm down… I have news for you!” I say wanting to prevent him from getting worse because I won’t bear it either and he wipes his tears quickly.

“Yes? Did he inform you?” he asks shortly and I nod.

I take my phone from my desk and go straight to my messages. The first name I see is Max’s and I open his last text.

“She is officially the Beta, I saw her, she looked well but Thor Walker didn’t seem so happy about me and Kevin. He took her away almost immediately, she wasn’t very happy and willing to go with him!” I read out loud and he growls.

“I am going to kill him if he touches her, I promise! He is dead like that bastard!” he states through his teeth and I do my best to stay ‘calm’ in front of him.

How am I going to tell him that the first asshole has already tried to touch her in an inappropriate way?

He is going to get madder, nobody will be able to stop him and he is going to ruin everything!

We have to act smartly, everything is going to end soon, she is going to leave away and if she doesn’t decide it then we will go to get her but…

FUCK!

“Austin… Is there anything else?” he asks me worried watching me too silent and serious and I nod.

I will change our theme… I can’t tell him about Thor Walker now…

“Yes… Kevin is soon going to go and make sure she is alright! He can’t calm down and Max is waiting for him!” I reply and he shakes his head pleased.

“Good, very good! The sooner he goes the better… They can’t take care of her on their own! She trusts Kevin and he can convince her leave.” He murmurs and stands up.

He taps my shoulder and I smile weakly. I don’t talk, I know he has nothing else to tell me, he is too tired, he can’t bear more for today and I need to stay alone…

“I am going to stay with your mother! Don’t stay up until too late, yes?” he asks me and I nod standing up as well.

“And you need to sleep as well… The others can stay with mom for a while.” I say and he shakes his head defeated.

“Alright, it’s a deal Beta Austin!” he murmurs and kisses my forehead.

“Yes Beta Dylan!” I whisper and he walks to the door with me observing him in silence.

He gets out after some seconds and I sigh frustrated yet with guilt. I walk to the small bar and fill a glass with some whiskey and then take it and walk to the window.

My eyes travel on the lake, the river, the pack houses and the mountains and my wolf howls in pain.

He is getting crazy the last three days and the thought of her being in danger is killing him and me.

Thanks Goddess he is always there for her and she is safe but for how long?

And now there are not only the rogues that are threatening her but that bastard as well and she is way too innocent and patient, she is like… My mother!

“I miss her like crazy, I need her! I don’t know how I am doing this and being the strong one all these years is drowning me now!” I tell him and he appears with his dark blue eyes shining just like his black fur.

He is suddenly way too confident with no sign of pain in his eyes or his expression and I am glad he is the strong one when I can’t be. We are completing each other and he is my rock from the moment I turned 16 and I got him!

“Be patient for a while and trust them and her! She is strong and she has already proven it!” he says with pride and I take a big sip from my drink as some first tears fall from my eyes.

“I know, you are right but sometimes it is just too much! I need her, we all do… My mom and he… How is he doing it without her?” I ask trembling.

“He is patient although he is in pain because he has faith! Do the same…”

“And what if she gets hurt and I lose her before I…”

“NO!” he roars cutting me off and I gasp panicked.

“She will be here Austin! I know her, we have the same blood!” he continues and I nod touching my forehead on the cold glass.

“You are right… My sister is going to come back home!”

~some time later, forest~

Third person’s pov

“Do you understand me now?” Thor asked nervously Finn that had his face buried in his big hands.

He had told him everything, he had hidden nothing, he couldn’t, he needed to tell someone because he was getting crazy! He was unable to hold all that weight on his own and Finn was his best friend, his supporter, his older ‘brother’.

All that time he had been shaking, sighing, gasping, walking up and down and hitting his fists on the trees, he couldn’t control his pain, frustration and anger.

He was devastated yet desperate because telling Finn had brought him again back at the day he had found out everything and his dream had turned into a nightmare.

His heart was aching, his wolf had gotten crazy asking for his mate and he could still smell of Cleo, he was so lost like he was having delusions.

He sat on some rocks and lowered his head in agony. He buried his fingers in his soft hair and closed his eyes scared of Finn’s silence. It was a torture for him, he was waiting and waiting but he wasn’t talking or moving, he was just standing some meters away from him with his head hidden and his body shivering.

“Finn…” he began and paused to take a deep breath running out of oxygen.

“I love her so much and…”

“NO!” Finn exploded like a maniac making him jump up.

His expression had gotten wild and scary, his fists were shaking uncontrollably, his wolf was ready to take full control and attack his Alpha and that was something new and horrible for Thor that felt betrayed.

“YOU DON’T LOVE HER! YOU NEVER DID!” Finn stated and took one threatening step to Thor that had turned pale staring at his friend like a statue.

“You loved her only for as long as it suited you! You have no right to say things like this! You know nothing of love!” he continued harshly and stopped incapable of walking closer to Thor.

Finn was feeling hurt and furious! He couldn’t accept a thing, his heart had broken for Cleo or better his Luna. He was always ‘against’ her but he couldn’t agree with Thor about anything.

His best friend till then had gotten crazy, there was no other explanation, he couldn’t understand him, he was so…

Unfair!

“I do, you know it but I can’t make her my Luna! This is going to be a shame for the pack and…”

“YOU! ONLY YOU!” Finn cut him off and Thor lowered his head again.

“The pack is never going to agree with you! She is innocent! You can’t behave like this is her fault when she had no other choice!” Finn screamed next and hit his fist on the closest tree not wanting to break his anger on Thor even though he deserved it.

“I never said this is her fault!” Thor protested and stood up leaving his jacket fall on the dry leaves on the wet ground.

“But you are punishing her! You are acting like it is her fault Thor! How can you say she is innocent when you are rejecting her?”

“I am not rejecting her, I will never reject her, I…”

“You are going to kill her! You have already begun killing her! What are you planning to do, huh? You won’t reject her but sooner or later you will have to mark that b***h I don’t even want to see in front of me again! Do you know what is going to happen then? Do you? She is going to suffer and… DAMN IT!” Finn roared and pushed Thor away once he tried to approach him more.

He began walking up and down like crazy growling, screaming and cursing.

Thor didn’t dare to stop him or talk again because the more he was thinking his words the more he was realizing that Finn was right. Cleo was going to suffer because he wasn’t planning to step back, he had taken his decisions!

“You know that this is the right thing and…” Thor began but Finn jumped on him, grabbed his neck and pinned him on a tree trunk roaring with mania.

He could kill him if he wanted but something was stopping him and he wasn’t holding him so tightly so Thor could run out of oxygen. He was furious but yet he was doing his best to stay ‘logical’…

“The right thing is to accept your mate the way she is no matter what some others decided to do! She has nothing to do with their actions, she knows nothing and she is going to be crushed if she finds out everything! She is going to hate you because until now she doesn’t but she is one step away from it! You know this pack loves her like crazy, she is kind and generous with everyone, even with the omegas and you won’t be able to hide the truth for too long! This is not going to have a good end for you and for the pack!” Finn said doddering and Thor sighed closing his eyes too weak to look at him in the eyes.

“I can’t just say that I was lying… They all believe that my mate is…”

“Don’t you say her name in front of me!” Finn screamed and Thor coughed as he tightened his hold around his neck.

“Everything is your fault and you will solve it on your own! You can’t run away from the mess you have created! Find a way to tell your parents and the pack!”

“My father is going to kill me Finn!” Thor roared losing his patience thinking of the consequences and pushed Finn away with power.

“And he is going to be right! You deserve it but this is your last chance! Cleo…”

“NO! SHUT UP, ENOUGH!” Thor stopped him and punched him on the face making him fall back after he lost his balance.

“I am your damn Alpha! I want someone else and I do whatever the hell I want! I have a fame to protect, this pack has a pride, enough!” he continued and Finn sat up with his lower lip bleeding and his eyes almost black and full of disgust.

His wolf was asking from him to leave away and stop talking to Thor, it was pointless and he knew what he had to be done! He knew what he had to do…

He stood up slowly spiting some more blood and took some steps backwards. His dark blue trousers and white shirt were dirty from the mud and the leaves but he didn’t care, his hair was a mess but it didn’t matter him, he had other things to think about.

“We are done!” He stated coldly after a while with his eyes locked on Thor that was almost fuming from rage.

Thor blinked his eyes caught off guard not expecting something like that from him and took a step forward lost.

Images from his and Cleo’s discussion some days before appeared in his mind and cold sweat run from his forehead in realization.

Finn…

“What?” he exclaimed shocked but Finn was too serious and he wasn’t really willing to reply him.

“Don’t walk away from me, I am your brother!” Thor screamed getting panicked and took one step to Finn that spitted again some blood but to his direction that time.

“You were, you are not anymore! From this moment you are just my Alpha and I want only the typical!” Finn announced and turned to leave but Thor grabbed him from his arm and turned him again to face him.

“You can’t, I… You are choosing her over me?” he screamed breathless and Finn just smirked pushing Thor back.

“Yes! I am taking the right side and I am standing next to my Luna either you like it or not! Stay away from me, the guys and most importantly her because one more wrong move from you and I am telling your father everything! Am I clear?” Finn said firmly and began walking away leaving Thor frozen behind him.

“You can’t do that! You…”

“I just did! Do whatever the hell you want but don’t try to hurt Cleo because believe me you are going to see me like never before and I totally mean it!” Finn interrupted him opening their distance and Thor fell on his knees shocked.

He observed Finn walking away and disappearing in the dark forest. The time for him stopped, he lost the ground under his feet, his heart stopped beating and he got paralyzed.

He was feeling and thinking nothing, he had lost his mind, he was alone, he had lost everyone but he had taken the path he was going to follow.

He wasn’t stepping back.

He couldn’t…

~some time later, deeper in the forest, lake~

Finn sat on the edge of the big rock above the lake and run his hands in his hair exhaling harshly.

It was the first time he was doing this, he wasn’t a fan of this kind of things, he knew the lake but he had never felt the need to go and sit there but now it had gotten out of him naturally.

Something was pushing him to the lake but he didn’t know what, his instinct had taken control and his wolf was encouraging him to follow it blindly.

He lifted his head up and closed his eyes in exhaustion.

“What are we going to do? Who could have imagined something like this?!” he asked his wolf that growled and showed him his teeth.

He wasn’t mad at him, he was mad at his Alpha and best friend! He was the wolf and his instincts were stronger, if Finn was one time against Thor then he was ten times more and he couldn’t hide it. Also, he was pleased with Finn, he hadn’t interfered but he had taken the right decision on his own!

“Don’t think about how it happened or how he did it! What matters is that she is our Luna, our place is next to her and she needs us! You did the right thing and I am proud!” he replied and Finn nodded touched.

He suddenly felt awful for not wanting Cleo before! Now he wanted to approach her and tell her that he was there for her but he didn’t know how because she hated him and she had every right!

“You don’t have to tell her, don’t approach her but become her silent supporter! She has William, Gabriel and Adelaine and she can talk to them. She is not going to believe you now, she can’t and she will try to push you away even more but if you say nothing and interfere when she really needs you then…”

“We will be more useful this way and she won’t doubt us!” Finn ended his wolf’s thoughts and he howled in response.

Finn thought about it for a while with his eyes locked on the dark blue sky and smiled melancholically as the cold breeze hit his face and gave him a new wave of strength he didn’t know he had until then.

His wolf was right and he knew what he had to do, he wouldn’t try to pressure Cleo, he would do anything she wanted him to do without protests and he would have his ears and eyes widely open for any weird and dangerous move not only from Thor that seemed to have lost his mind but from rogues as well…

He remembered the attack some days ago and Cleo’s words the following day and his skin shuddered. The female rogue that had been killed had told something to Cleo before and it had to do with her father so…

She was someone’s target and he had to be careful all the time, his Luna’s life was in danger and he wasn’t going to leave her alone even if she didn’t want him.

He kept on sitting on the rock staring at the sky and feeling the breeze on his skin and got lost…

He realized nothing, he felt no presence but some meters behind him there was…

One pair of light grey, almost silver eyes…
