Chapter Ten

1157 Words
Blaze’s POV I took his horse, running as far as I could. It didn’t matter if he was my mate. The moon goddess probably made a mistake with this. The night was dark and quiet as everyone was already in their houses with their families. It was the perfect time to ride towards the palace. There was one problem though. I had no idea where the palace was located. s**t. I should have asked Reese before running off. “Do you think we can find it tonight?” I ask my wolf, Anika as we journeyed through the dark city. “Beats me. We should have just stayed with Reese until the morning.” She replied with a trace of annoyance and I roll my eyes. There was no way I was staying in that house alone with him. I was attracted to him and he was attracted to me too. With us now being mates, I didn’t want to imagine what would happen if we both stayed together. I had a mission to accomplish and couldn’t be swayed by his dangerous charm. “Well. Looks like we’re going to keep searching until we find it.” I say. This was a freaking big city. If the sun was out, it would have been easier to find the goddamn palace. But now that it was just pitch black, I would have to struggle. Reese’s horse galloped around the street like he knew it pretty well and honestly, I couldn’t be any happier. There was a flashlight coming from a distance and judging from the brightness, it had to be the palace. All the other houses had put off their lights except that big one afar off. “I think we found it, big guy.” I smile, patting the horse softly as we rode towards the palace, using the only source of light to navigate through. As we drew closer to the palace, I got off the horse, not wanting to grab the attention of the watchmen who were stationed at every corner of the Palace gate. “One, two, three... Goodness! Just how many are these guys?” I panicked. Now, beating them all to a pulp wouldn’t be a problem for me but I didn’t want to raise any alarms. This was supposed to be a secret mission where I just came in and left without anyone knowing. My plan was simple. I sneak in there and disguise as one of the maids for a few days. Get a close up look at the king and try to look for whatever would be helpful to my people. Maybe kill the king if the chance came. Yes, this wasn’t a part of the initial plan but who said I was one to follow instructions? A distraction! I needed one to get the guards attention away from the gate. Perhaps, I could sneak in. But, there was a huge problem. The freaking gate was locked! Locked! To make things worse, the palace walls were impossibly high. It would take me at least an hour to climb over. Fuck me! “Anika? What do we do?” I call on my wolf for help agreeing with the fact that she was the smarter one between us. “That horse. It has the same crest as the one on the gate so I’m guessing Reese belongs here. Probably a worker or a noble man.” She says and my jaw drops. No wonder he had that much money and a house that exquisite. He was a worker in the palace! Of course, they’d pay them really well. “What I’m trying to say is? You could use the horse to grab their attention. They’d all be focused on the horse and then, you quietly knock down one and take his uniform. You can sneak in with that. What do you think?” I massaged my head softly. Her idea was the best. I’d hug her it I could but we had to share on body so, I wrap my hands around myself. “You’re the best, Anika. The best!” I say and then return to the horse who was still glued to where I left him. Obedient, I see? His owner trainer him well, alright. I grab him and lead him to the guards where he causes a little disturbance, all the guards rush towards him as planned, realizing that he belonged to the palace. That was my chance. I easily knocked one of them who still stayed in his position out, but quietly. Pulling him to the back was an easy thing to do and I hastily put his uniform on. As planned, the gates opened for the horse and I briskly walked towards them, pushing in to go along with the horse. “Wait!” f*****g hell! “Why are you going in?” One of the guards asked looking at me intently even though he couldn’t see my face clearly because of the uniform I had on. “Someone needs to lead the horse to the stable, yes?!” I deepen my voice in the best way I can and he looks at me oddly before nodding his head and letting me pass through. Idiots! It was dark with little specks of light so I couldn’t see the palace building clearly but from the little I could see. It was beautiful. There was a huge fountain in the middle with a wolf shaped grotesque in it. Even in the darkness, it shown brightly. “No time to admire, Blaze. We need to move.” Anika scolded and I scurried around, not knowing where I was going as this was a strange land to me. As long as I was in, half my problem was solved. All I need to do now is locate the maids quarters. I heard from one of the sellers at the market that maids in the palace had a house just for them. The luxury! I removed my disguise since I wanted to enter the female quarters. I began walking around the building to wherever. “What are you doing out by this time of the night?” A feminine voice called out in a hushed tone. It was a middle aged lady who looked like she had just woken up from a deep sleep. She probably thought I was one of them so I decided to play along. “I couldn’t sleep.” I replied, using my fingers to play with my hair while I was saying silent prayers in my head. “Oh dear. We have a long day today. You should get as much sleep as you can. We begin our shift in two hours. The king hates tardiness. Now, go get some sleep.” She says and I nod, following her to wherever she was taking me. Well, it looks like things are going in my favor.
