*DAMIAN POV*
Alette was furious with me, but she had to understand that I had to do this by myself this time. I couldn't allow any of our family to get hurt, or worse. It was bad enough he had River, and if I played my cards right I could talk Lance into releasing him pretty easily.
My brother is pretty easy to manipulate. He is a follower, not a leader, and it surprised me that he was the one behind this, or so he says.
When I spoke to him on the phone, he basically informed me that he was the one behind the trafficking ring at my ports, and that he was responsible for stalking Alette and me. He also admitted to setting fire to my home and injuring so many that lived there.
I had to believe him simply based on the facts that he knew things that were going on in the pack within the past month and a half. He had pictures of my boys and wife outside in the garden when they were only a few weeks old. Even worse, he had pictures from inside their nursery.
He had actually entered the pack house, and was within inches of my children. When I asked why he was doing all of this, it came down to one thing. The pack, and its rightful heir. He felt I took his birthright from him, and now I was taking down his 'business'.
I wish he could see how following in our dad's footsteps wasn't a good thing. What our dad did to innocent girls was one of the worst things a man could do to a woman. Except from what Donavon learned during his time undercover, Lance is also selling people's organs on the black market.
Unfortunately, the local police didn't do much other than question those who worked at the port, and without solid proof, had to release them.
Maddix, Donavon, Buck and I had been working on a plan to expose the operation, but then the fire happened, and Buck was attacked. Now River is being held hostage. This has to end now.
If he wants the pack, he can have it. It's not worth people dying for. We can always re-establish ourselves somewhere else, and is it even a pack anymore if everyone leaves? Who will there be to lead? No one, but the pieces of s**t who followed my dad and now him.
I pulled up to the vacant office building, and called Maddix on a burner phone I had hidden. "I'm here, my location is on, and I'll leave the call connected," I told him.
"I won't disconnect, Damian. My warriors and Timmy are close by. Lance has never seen them, so they won't have a clue that they are there to watch over you. I'll be listening, but bro, be safe. You know the safe word, and don't do anything that will get you killed. I couldn't handle it and I know my sister couldn't either," Maddix stated.
I stuck the phone in my boot, and put my normal phone in my back pocket like I always do. I got out of the car and made my way inside the building. When I entered the lobby, two men greeted me and told me to follow them.
We entered an elevator, and one of the men looked at me and commented on my appearance. "You are a lot bigger than he said you were. Don't start no s**t, and there won't be s**t. Understand?" he asked. I simply smirked and nodded my head. I wasn't going to give him the satisfaction of a response.
The elevator took us to the top floor of the building, and when the doors opened we stepped out into an open floor office. My little brother was standing in the center with his mother and her new husband, Bart Lewis.
Bart Lewis is a multimillionaire who made his money doing anything and everything illegal. He was actually partners with my father when he first started trafficking girls. They had a pretty bad disagreement about money, and went their separate ways.
To say I was slightly surprised to see Sandra there with Bart was an understatement.
"Nice of you to come visit, Damian," she sneered. I intentionally ignored her, and spoke directly to Lance.
"Little brother, how about we find somewhere to talk," I said. Sandra started to speak, but Bart told her to be quiet.
"That won't be necessary, Damian," Bart growled. "You see, Lance was just to lure you here. It's me who the real dealings will be discussed," he spat.
I gave a chuckle and said, "It's Alpha Damian, to you Bart. There is nothing to discuss with you, other than releasing my brother-in-law. So, if you really are the one in charge, let's get to it."
He whispered something in one of his men's ears, and the man disappeared into the elevator. "Come, sit, Alpha. You know, while we wait," he sighed.
I didn't move from the spot I was standing in, and let him know I had no intention of sitting with him. "Fine, suit yourself. I will just get to the point. You are a huge thorn in my side, Damian. You are hindering my business, and I don't take kindly to that. I want you to stop, and I want you to relinquish your Alpha title to Lance. Without a challenge," he stated.
"Well, Bart. As far as me hindering your business, I believe it's the other way around. You chose to run out of one of my shipping yards, illegally. I put a stop to it. That bullshit will not ever happen on my watch. My ports are off limits to you," I began.
"Also, Lance. If you want Spirit Mountain, all you had to do was ask. That's it. If it was that important to you, you could have come to me like a man, not whatever it is you are now. I would have respected you a lot more than I do now," I finished.
Both Bart and Sandra started to cackle like evil hens, and Lance started to get agitated. "Damian, I have always wanted the pack. The last time we spoke, you told me it would be over your dead body before I got Spirit Mountain. Now, you change your tune?" he bellowed.
Before I could answer, the elevator dinged. The door opened and River was drug out by his arms. He had been severely beaten, and I could tell he was fighting for a breath. They had more than likely broken his ribs, and done goddess knows what damage.
I started to move towards him and four guys blocked my way. "Tell your goons to move before they die, Bart," I demanded. "The note said he wouldn't be harmed, so what the f**k is this?" I demanded.
"If you want him to stay alive, you will cooperate. You will give the pack to Lance, and will stay out of my way in regard to my business. In return, I will release your brother-in-law without further injury, and stay out of your ports. To me that sounds like a fair deal. What do you think? Do we have a deal?" he growled.
River started to moan, and managed to get the word 'don't' out. I was personally conflicted because I couldn't let them hurt him anymore. Yet, I didn't want to give up my pack either. Not this way.
"I tell you what, here's a counteroffer. If Lance wants to be alpha so badly, he can challenge me. It will be to death, and the other stipulation that will be put in place is this: you and Sandra cannot live on pack lands, and you can not and will not be able to influence his rule in any way. Also, Maddix Young and Donavon Cole are to officiate the challenge. That is the only way he can get my pack from me." I said.
