Going In Alone

*Alette POV* If it's not one thing, it's another, and I, for one, am sick of it. We hadn't had any issues for so long, and then Damian discovered another trafficking operation being run out of one of our ports. Now, we have a bounty on our heads. Not just Damian and me either. Our children are also in danger. I was adamant about not living in hiding, but here we are. I guess I should be thankful that Asteria came up with a location where we aren't bound inside all the time. The boys can still get outside and get fresh air, and to me that's important. We are being transported separately for safety reasons, and all leaving at different times. Damian left early this morning with Maddix to make sure the perimeter was secure, and the house was ready. Silver Howl is mostly surrounded by a large wooden wall. The only open area is the entrance, which comes out onto Starry Moon's borders. It has one large house, which I assume was the pack house when it was an operating pack. It also has about 15 cottages and a warrior barracks. I toured it with Jason and Rebecca once when they first acquired it, and it wasn't as big as I thought it would be. It has come in handy for them though. They use it to house warriors who come to train, or visiting Alphas who require privacy for whatever reason. I sent my mate a text to see how things were looking, and as I sat down to read to the boys, he replied. Damian: So far it looks good. The walls are sturdy, and the only entrance is heavily guarded. Most of the people who are coming here from Spirit Mountain have already arrived. It was good to see them safe. Me: That's good. I'm still not happy about this, but I understand why this has to happen. I just miss our bed, our home. Damian: It's just temporary, babe. We will rebuild and find who's behind this as quickly as we can. At least you will get to see more of your aunt, uncle and cousins. Me: Yea, that is definitely a bonus feature in all of this. I'll see you soon. The boys will be leaving shortly. I love you. Damian: I love you, too. See you in a short. I finished reading to my boys, and had Sarah help me get them ready for their trip to the new living situation. "Sarah, please watch them carefully. The driver and my dads had been instructed not to stop for anything. Not even to change diapers, so hopefully they sleep the whole way. It's not that far a drive, but long enough. I packed snacks and bottles, and I will be leaving as soon as you guys reach Silver Howl." I explained. Sarah hugged me and said, "I will protect them at all costs, Luna, with my life." I was still a nervous wreck about them leaving without me, but I just had to trust the process and know they were in safe hands. My dads were with them, and those are the safest hands I know. I watched the car drive off with my whole world inside, and I felt my heart drop. My mom stood next to me gripping my hand tightly. "Mom, what if..." I started to say. "Enough of the worrying, Alette. They will be fine, just like you and Damian will be. I promise you, that it will all work out sooner than we think it will," she said. "I hope so mom. I don't know how much longer I can live in fear. Constant fear is going to kill me before anyone else does," I laughed. The next three hours seemed to drag on. Mom stayed in constant contact with at least one of my dads, and Liam said it had been an uneventful ride. That gave me some kind of relief, and I was able to relax for just a little while. Damian sent me a text again, saying that my dad, Loki, had messaged him saying that the dads and my boys were just pulling in. That meant it was my turn. My bags had already been packed into the trunk of the car, and I grabbed a small bag of snacks and drinks for my ride. I had a bad feeling about all of this, but then again, I have had a bad feeling since the day of the fire. My brother, River, and Caleb have been doing fine since their injuries. Their wolves healed them pretty quickly, only Caleb still has quite a few burn scars. They are healing, but from what Micah says, there are some spots on his back and neck that aren't healing like they should be. They are all moving to Silver Howl too, and my aunt and her friend Esme are going to help mom try to heal whatever hasn't healed yet. Then there is Buck. Micah says Buck is healing very slowly, and the doctors aren't sure why. She says even her wolf, Chyna, can't reach his wolf, but can feel that he is still with Buck. This has been a nightmare, and rebuilding seems like a lifetime away. "Ready sweetheart?" mom asked. I nodded my head, and after saying goodbye to Addie, Gunner and the little ones, I climbed into the car with Asteria, Donavon and mom. A rogue tear fell down my cheek, and we started our long drive to my temporary home. I must have dozed off because I was woken up by my mom screaming at my dad on the phone. "Liam, you better be lying to me right now! Please, say you are lying to me," she sobbed. Donavon tried to pull off to the side of the road and mom yelled at him to keep driving. "Do not stop Donavon, please keep driving as fast as you can. Please...." she cried. "Mom, what's going on?" I asked in a low voice. She kept her eyes closed, as she sobbed, but eventually answered. "River's car was ambushed. He is missing, and the warriors who were with him are dead," she cried. I let out a strangled sob as the realization that my little brother had been taken to get to Damian and me. "Mom? I am so sorry! Did they find anything other than the warriors?" I asked. She shrugged her shoulders and said that she wasn't sure. She had screamed at dad, who was probably already upset, and then hung up on him. So she didn't get any information other than he was taken. Asteria called dad back, and tried to calm him down while I worked on mom. Thankfully, Asteria's level head was able to find out more details. After she disconnected the call, she turned to face us. "They know who has him, and who has been after you and Damian. They left a note about meeting up to discuss things, and hopefully get River back safely," she said. I sighed with what little relief there was, and asked her who it was. "Alette, it's your brother-in-law, Lance. He is demanding Damian meet with him, either alone, or with you. No one else. The note says that Damian has until 10am tomorrow to respond. If not, he's killing River." she explained. I quickly called Damian, and asked what the plan was now. "Alette, I'm going alone. I've already spoken to Lance. I'm leaving now, and the boys are safe with Rebecca, Riley and Micah. I'm sorry, babe. I have to do this alone. Maddix knows the location, but please don't let anyone follow me. I can reason with him, I know I can. I love you," he stated and hung up on me.
