Chapter 5: Coincidence (2) *** Back to the mansion of the one and only Monte family, the three of them were greeted warmly… Well as warm as the expensive porcelain tiles that the mansion had… ‘All of the servants seem as lifeless as can be… I wonder if they’re not being mistreated…’ Owen thought to himself as he looked around, the maids that were welcoming them in had the same stiff expression on their faces as they lowered their heads, their monotone voices also didn’t help make them seem more human. “So, so! You mentioned drawing before, right? You could totally help me out a bit, I’ve been having trouble with the technique I’m supposed to…” Fiona chatted happily about her interests but her boisterous voice was slowly drowning out in Owen’s mind. ‘Could the girly keep quiet already? I haven’t heard a single thing come out of Philip’s mouth the entire time…’ Owen thought to himself as he did a quick glance at the man’s direction. ‘He really seems obsessed with his sister… but does getting along with her really benefit me?’ He wondered to himself as he turned his attention back to the girl. “Will you help me?” Fiona asked as she pulled onto the man’s sleeve, maybe she was finally acting her age, or maybe a bit more immaturely than needed. “Of course, I’d love to if it’s something I can do.” Owen said with a smile on his face, the girl then quickly dragged him off to her room. “Huh? Wait, isn’t Philip coming along?” “My brother? Why would he, he doesn’t know anything about art!” Fiona said as she shut the door behind her. They were in her drawing room, which let’s just admit most artists that were starting off didn’t have… It was a huge spacious place, filled with various size canvases and paints, it was by no means organized, as no artist ever was… but it was astatically pleasing, somewhat… ‘Rich people have everything, don’t they?’ Owen thought to himself as he took a quick look around but made sure he didn’t focus his attention too much on anything since it would look suspicious as if he was there to rob them or something. “So tell me… did my parents sent you here?” Fiona asked as she leaned back in her chair, the other person was still standing up as he was faced with this dilemma. ‘She found me out, huh… no I guess it makes sense for her parents to tell her… but still… breaking cover like this might make things complicated for me…’ Owen thought to himself as he looked down at the girl with a confused look on his face. “Your parents… send me? What does that mean, even Philip assumed that was what I was doing… though I’m not really sure what you mean by it…” ‘What… is it possible I’m wrong? No… there’s no way… this guy actually might be a rando from the streets? Did I just bring a strange guy inside our home?’ Fiona wondered to herself internally but outwardly remained cool and collected as any lady in her position should. “Don’t play games with me… I know you didn’t actually randomly fall in love with my brother. There’s no way that would ever happen, I mean there’s nothing to like about him to begin with!” ‘Fatal mistake this girl made… the way she spoke about him just now lets me know that her parents didn’t tell her about the plan or if they did, they might have told her less than she let’s on… so…’ Owen put on his best saddened/angry face as he replied to the girl. “There’s plenty to like about Philip! He’s kind and caring… he feeds animals on the streets and I don’t know if you’ve noticed but he’s always had your back as well!” “Huh?” Fiona looked dumbfounded at those words. ‘He… he’s not playing…’ She thought to herself. ‘Perfect, an absolutely perfect performance… Getting angry on another person’s behalf is a rather selfless action which makes me look good and…’ Owen took a small step back. ‘I heard foot steps right outside the door, heavy ones at that… I’m pretty sure Philip is listening to our conversation at this very moment…’ “My brother doesn’t care as much as you think he does…” Fiona said as she looked down at one of her half finished paintings. “The only reason he came along with me today was because he was forced to take care of me while dad’s in the hospital…” ‘So, I’ve heard… ah… now I made her sad, this is bad… if Philip finds out this is going to make me look like a jerk.’ Owen carefully moved forward and knelt down in front of the girl so they could both be at eye level. “He does care, way more than you know… I saw how intently he listened to everything to said when you spoke about your interests… and you know he hates me, right? The only reason he allowed me to come here was because you asked him to…” “R-really?” Fiona hadn’t ever thought her brother cared so much for her. “You were watching him all this time while we were out? Isn’t that a bit creepy?” She asked. ‘…….’ Owen’s mind froze for a minute. ‘Maybe it is creepy… the f**k…’ He thought to himself as he replied to the girl. “I mean… I couldn’t help it… I like him so much I just want to continue staring at him…” “Oh… so… you really do like him…” Fiona murmured in a low voice as she looked up at the man. ‘Yeah, yeah I like him I like him… Just go and tell your brother I’m a great guy and everything’s going to be fine, alright?’ Owen thought to himself but of course he wouldn’t say any of that out loud, it would instantly blow his cover, especially since he knew the man was standing right outside that door, listening to them, still trying to figure out what was true and what was false…
