Chapter 6: Coincidence (3)
***
‘I still can’t tell if this guy’s f*****g with me
or not…’ Philip thought to himself as he stood outside the door. ‘If my parents wanted to trick me, they’d at
least tell Fiona about it… and since she’s suspicious of him too maybe he
really is telling the truth…’
Philip took
one more step forward to listen in on their conversation, he was still at a
point where he didn’t know what to believe. He felt unsettled with the idea of
doubting the guy who has genuine feelings for him but the thought of his
parents trying to set him up again made him even more pissed off.
“I really
love him… for more reasons than I can count…” Owen said with a voice filled
with such sincerity it seemed like it would sent his heart aflame, it was all
an act of course. ‘…for starters he’s rich,
his family already likes me, other than being paid to do this and being
guaranteed not only a good life but a great social standing… he’s not bad
looking to top it all off, sure he’s annoying but it’s not like he’s rude or
intolerable… he’s just quiet and reserved which makes my job difficult but not
impossible.’ He thought to himself as he looked down at the ground
pretending to think deeply about something. “I’m sorry… I’m going to leave…” He
said as he headed out the door.
“Wait,
what?!” Fiona stood up from her chair. “D-did I say something bad?” She
panicked.
‘Not that honey but it’s the perfect opportunity…’
Owen thought to himself as he opened the door and ran out as if he was in a
rush just to purposefully bump into Philip again. ‘It’s
the perfect chance to make it seem like I didn’t know this guy was listening in
on us and further make my act solid…’
“Ouch…” Owen
fell backwards from the impact of bumping into the man, Philip pulled him by
the hand mid air and held him so he wouldn’t fall. “W-were you listening to
us?!” Owen asked in a panicked voice as his entire face flushed read. ‘Not that I don’t already know the answer to that
question… obviously you were…’
“Sorry… I
was here to ask you to come down for dinner…” Philip apologized as he helped
the man stand up on his own again. ‘So he can
even make a face like that…’ He thought to himself feeling like the man he
held wasn’t trying to fool him. “Why were you trying to run away just now?” He
asked in a calm voice.
“I… well… I…
I’m sorry… I just…” Owen stuttered and stumbled over his words in such a
perfectly natural way it felt like he wasn’t acting. ‘Because
I wanted to make a dramatic scene like this… though even I wasn’t expecting
you’d catch me, I was prepared to land on my ass for all I knew, points for
you!’ He thought to himself as he replied ever so slowly. “I… I didn’t want
my feelings to be doubted anymore… I hate it…”
“I’m really
sorry Owen! I didn’t mean to do that to you…” Fiona quickly apologized as she
walked up to the man. ‘He’s actually not send
by my parents… but he does have feelings for my brother…’ She thought to
herself as she lowered her head a bit. “I… didn’t mean it to sound like that…”
“Don’t worry
about it Fia… I’ll explain things to him, you go down and take a seat, mom will
be waiting for you.” Philip said as he gestured to his sister.
‘Brother seems a bit… angry doesn’t he?’
Fiona thought to herself but she did as she was told and headed downstairs.
Philip then
pulled Owen by the hand and dragged him inside the room again, then closed the
door behind him. “Sit down.” He said.
“Huh? I… I
didn’t mean to do anything-” Owen was interrupted by the other’s rather
commanding tone.
“Sit down,
so I can explain…” Philip said as he sighed.
‘Geez… this guy really has no manners, and yet
his parents emphasized just how important it was to be well mannered…’ Owen
thought to himself as he sat down and continued looking as innocent as ever
while hiding his true feelings.
“My parents…
are the type to worry more than needed. Ever since my father got sick… He’s
been talking about how he wants to see me happy and in love with someone… He
knows I’m gay so he’s been sending me all kinds of guys my way…” Phillip said
as he looked across the room at the art supplies but not once focusing on the
man he was speaking to. “I got very fed up with it and I lashed out at you even
thought you’re not involved in our family affair… for that I’m sorry…”
‘So this arrogant man can even say things like
that… Seems like hanging around him is a really great deal after all…’ Owen
thought to himself as he looked at the ground, trying his best not to let his
real feelings show. “I see… that’s terrible…” He said while pulling his best
‘lost in deep thought’ expression. “…but it sounds like your father cares a lot
for you… and maybe he doesn’t have much time left and that’s why he’s
pressuring you so much…”
“……you think
that’s it?” Phillip suddenly looked like someone had hit him with a brick in
the head, his eyes were unfocused. “He doesn’t have much longer to life…” He
muttered to himself quietly.
‘s**t… I ended up telling the truth… Actually I
do know that’s the case… since when I went to see his father as we made the
deal… the guy admitted it to me… That’s actually the entire reason I’m so well
paid for this…’ Owen thought to himself, this was one of the few
mistakes he made in his acting thus far but it was a mistake he wasn’t going to
repeat again…
