Chapter1 : Act Like You Mean It (1)
***
I don’t mean to be cocky or anything… but I’d like to think of myself as a good actor… When I was a brat and my father would come back, having drank just a little too much. I started learning how to assess the situation quickly and act in a way that would be fitting… I grew up while honing said ability…
Whether it would be at school with the teachers, or with my friends outside… I knew how to act in those situations for the sake of coming out on top. If I needed to act meek and allow another person to win an argument I would do so. If I needed to take control of a situation and win a competition, I would do so…
I never really got to do theater in high school though… I never had that kind of time… and now that I think about it I wish I did…
Several times my mother would come back home with different men… and I had to pretend like I didn’t know what was happening. Of course it was best that way… My father was a sleaze bag that never treated his wife or son properly… but you know what? I never got to hate him for that…
Even after my mother started working two part time jobs just to make sure she could put food on the table for me… Even though I had to work twice as hard as any other student to make sure I got a scholarship in University…
I never really hated my father for being such a dumbass… I wonder… maybe I really wanted to spend more time with him…
In the end… I spent my entire youth having acted all these different roles for the sake of others… In fact my entire life up until this point revolved solely around how well I can play a certain role… and this situation right now is no different… oh did I mention my name? I’m Owen Harper… 27 years old and I have a very particular job description…
“So… you like me? And you’re not here for any other reason, that it?” A man with dark brown hair and a pair of green eyes asked in a casual voice. He didn’t seem to believe the other person. Those green pupils were focused solely on the man giving his answer.
“Of course, I… love you even…” The man that replied in such a kindhearted way, the man that spoke so softly to the other with obvious affection in his voice. ‘Yes… I’ve always thought of myself as a great actor… Up… until now…’ He thought to himself as he smiled at the man.
“Stop pretending…” The green eyed man said as he turned his back to the other person. “People like you are the worst… How much did my parents pay you to do this, huh? I’ll pay double if you tell me.”
‘This… sneaky bastard…’ The other man thought to himself as the smile disappeared from his face. He was a man of thin frame and tall stature, he had light brown hair and a pair of average looking dark brown eyes… though inside those eyes was a story that was waiting to be told. “I can’t believe… you would think so lowly of me… I didn’t receive any money from anyone! I’m here by my own free will!” The man said in a quiet rage, it was obvious he was angered of being accused by the other person.
“R-really?” The green eyed man took a step back, he was surprised to hear the other’s response. ‘Is he really not faking it?’ He wondered to himself. ‘No… it’s too early to tell…’
‘The truth is… I really was sent here by this guy’s parents and the sum they are willing to pay me isn’t a small one either… The condition was that I were to never break the act not once… and by marrying this bloke I’ll be able to live a life of luxury… the life I’ve always wanted…’ The man thought to himself as he spoke to the man…
“I truly… fell in love with you the minute I met you Philip!” The man pleaded as he held onto the other’s hand. ‘Yes… just like this… I need to lure him in…’ He thought to himself.
The man he was trying to win over was Philip Monte, one of the three sons of the ‘Monte’ family, a family with noble heritage and an excess of wealth… They are involved in every sphere that you could think of… be it finances, entertainment, food industry… all of it… As long as it made money, the Monte family was the first to hop on it… However the father of the Monte family is gravely ill and he has but one wish… to see his son happily married…
Thus the situation they are in right now… The youngest son Philip Monte is the green eyed gentlemen that you know off…
“Why? I see no reason for you to fall for me… and I see even less reason for my parents to permit you here…” Phillip said with a distrusting voice as he leaned in closer to the other person. He was trying to gauge the other’s responses, he was trying to prove the other person was lying to him…
“I… fell in love when I saw you at first sight… when you were feeding the baby kittens that recently lost their mother… You… took them in, didn’t you? Those kittens playing over here…” Owen said as he looked at the ground, he maintained an expression that was both heartwarming and a bit saddened. “I really like noble men like you… you have a big heart…”
