Lydia pov. I never imagined my mother's words would come true. I couldn't believe she was arranging a marriage between John and me. I sat in my room, tears streaming down my face, unable to bear the thought of John as my Mate. I paced around my room, wearing my wedding gown, trying to figure out what to do. Marrying John was out of the question; we were never meant to be together. Feeling lost and conflicted, I saw the door slowly open, and my mother walked in, taking a look at me. "Darling, you look stunning. I don't think John would be able to take his eyes off you," she said. I glanced at my mother in disbelief. I couldn't fathom how she could force me into marrying someone I despised so much. "Please, Mom, don't let this wedding happen. You'll only shatter my dreams and make my life a living hell," I pleaded. My mother grabbed my hand tightly, looking at me intensely. "You're a Luna, my dear, and it's your right to marry an Alpha so that you can wield more power to protect the Moonlight Pack and your Alpha pack as well. Trust me, my dear, one day you'll thank me," she insisted. I pushed my mother's hands away, staring at her with resentment. She didn't care if I was happy or not; all she cared about was power and nothing else. "I can't believe you would do this to me, Mom. What if I'm not happy? What if I want to find my true Mate, the one destined for me?" I questioned. My mother chuckled at my words, her anger evident in her eyes. This time, she forcefully grabbed my hand, making it difficult for me to pull away. "Please, my child, John is the only one meant for you. Don't you realize how much the other packs despise us? You need to marry John to protect this pack, especially since your father is no longer with us." I glanced at my mother, consumed by a growing sense of resentment. It was unfathomable to me that she would subject me to this ordeal. "Sorry, Mom, but I'm not like Father. I will reconcile with the other pack. Please, Mom, don't do this," I pleaded. My mother forcefully pushed me onto my bed, and I simply stared at the floor, motionless. "Put on your makeup. I'll have some maids escort you to the hall. Behave yourself," she commanded, walking away. All I could do was weep. Why did I have to be the one to suffer? Why couldn't my family have given birth to a boy instead of me? After a few hours, the door opened, confirming what my mom had already anticipated. The maids had arrived to lead me to the hall. Refusing to face the crowd, I kept my gaze lowered and felt a wave of shame washing over me. As I walked, my mother approached and took my hands, drawing me closer to the altar. The resentment I felt towards the people around me was now overwhelming. Just as we reached the altar, my mother handed me over to John. I felt his hands gripping mine, compelling me to look up. I noticed the mole on his face, and in that moment, I longed to strike him for putting me through this torment. Unable to tear my eyes away from him, he smiled, but I remained silent, giving him the cold shoulder. "Today, we are gathered here to witness the union of our beloved packs, the Moonlight and the Wave pack. Luna Lydia from the Moonlight pack and Alpha John from the Wave pack will come together, forging an unbreakable alliance," the priest announced. Cheers erupted from the crowd, but I couldn't find joy in their celebration. I despised the situation I found myself in. The priest produced a ring and handed it to John. "Alpha John, do you take Luna Lydia as your cherished Luna, to stand by her side in times of trouble, war, and death?" I gazed at him as he smiled and moved closer to me. "Yes, I do. I will always protect her and keep her by my side, now and forever." I observed him, searching for any hint of truth in his words. However, his eyes betrayed nothing but deceit and malevolence. "Luna Lydia, do you choose Alpha John to be your cherished Alpha in times of troubles, war, and death?" I glanced at John, then at my mother, whose smile urged me on. I didn't want this marriage. I couldn't marry John. "I..." I struggled to find my voice, feeling the weight of the words on my tongue. If I said yes, I would be bound to him for the rest of my life. Lost in thought, I desperately tried to formulate a response that wouldn't haunt me forever. "Lydia," my mother's voice broke through, and I turned to her as she stared at me with lifeless eyes, warning me not to dare. Gazing at John and the expectant faces around me, something within me compelled me to act. Without thinking, I pushed his hands away and spoke. "I cannot," I declared, leaving everyone in shock. I swiftly turned and fled from the hall. I couldn't marry John; I simply couldn't. I turn to look at my mom, her face now filled with anger. I realize that disobeying her was a mistake, but what about my own happiness? What about my own needs? "I apologize, Mom," I whispered, my gaze fixed upon her. "I simply cannot marry John. I know deep down that I will never find true happiness with him." I shifted my attention to John, his expression a mixture of shock and confusion, as he reached out to hold my trembling hands. However, I instinctively retreated, creating distance between us. Transforming into my wolf form, I heard my mom commanding the guards to pursue me. I refused to marry John, even if it meant starting a new life in another pack. I didn't care what lay ahead.
