Chapter 17

1382 Words
Arielle noticed that Gun hadn't been talking to her much since last night. Maybe he's still mad at her because he thinks she sided with Tyron instead of him. They haven't been talking much so she hasn't been able to mention to him about the wedding. He will surely be surprised when Tyron's mother and sister arrive to discuss the wedding. "Why aren't you talking much to Gun, Ma'am Arielle? Are you two having an LQ?" Emma asked in a probing tone as she helped her prepare their lunch. Laura was off that day so she was helping Emma prepare their lunch. "He just misunderstood me last night, Emma. But let's just leave him be. His tantrums will eventually disappear," she answered with a smile to her maid. She didn't pay attention to the "LQ" that she mentioned, which means lover's quarrel. She didn't have a relationship with Gun, so no LQ happened. "I'll just call Gun outside so we can eat together, Ma'am Arielle," Emma said after they finished preparing the food. Gun was outside installing CCTV cameras around her house. He was done installing the cameras inside the house, so he focused on the outside. Emma returned shortly followed by Gun who clearly avoided looking at her. "Let's eat," she said to both of them, but her eyes only focused on Gun. He simply nodded in response to what she said but didn't speak. She felt annoyed because Gun's actions seemed like that of a jealous boyfriend, even though they didn't have a relationship. Out of annoyance, she didn't talk to him again. It's up to him if he doesn't want to talk to her. She just focused on her food and ignored the awkward silence around them. On the corner of her eyes, she could see Gun occasionally glancing at her, but she still didn't speak. Even Emma seemed visibly uncomfortable with the silence. But she had no intention of speaking again or initiating a conversation between her and Gun. He misunderstood her and didn't allow her to explain herself. Well, she didn't have anything to explain to him anyway because he was just her bodyguard. They were in the middle of their meal when suddenly someone rang the doorbell outside the gate. "I'll just check who it is, Ma'am Arielle." She just nodded at Emma before she hurriedly walked out of the house to see who was her guest. When Emma left, Gun slightly cleared his throat as if he had removed a blockage in his throat before speaking. "Arielle, about last night." Those were the only words Gun said as the faces of Tyron's mother and sister suddenly appeared at the door of the dining area. She suppressed her frown upon seeing the two women who treated her like a slave when she and Tyron were still together. Tyron's mother, Cynthia, and his younger sister, Lucy. "Good afternoon, Arielle. It's perfect timing that we came to your house. I'm already hungry," Tyron's mother said with a wide smile while scanning the delicious foods on the table. "Me too, Mom. I'm also getting hungry," Tyron's only sibling added. With a wide smile, the two approached the table and even though she didn't invite them to join, they still both sat on the vacant chairs. "I'm sorry, Aunt Cynthia, Lucy. You didn't inform me that you were coming for lunch so we didn't include you in the count of people who will eat lunch at my house. The food we cooked is just enough for the three of us," she said to them in a tone, pretending to be embarrassed. The hands of the two women suddenly stopped in mid-air as they were about to get food even though they didn't have plates in front of them when they heard what she said. She secretly smiled as their faces turned red with embarrassment. She didn't know that Tyron's family apparently also had a sense of shame in their bodies. She thought they were not affected by shame because their faces were thick. Lucy stood up from her seat with a frown and threw her a sharp look. "I suddenly lost my appetite, Mom. Their food isn't even delicious." "Me too. I lost my appetite too. I prefer to eat at an expensive restaurant," Tyron's mother added, also standing up from her seat like Lucy. "I'm sorry that's the only food I could manage to cook. If you want, I can call Tyron to take you to an expensive restaurant," she said, giving in to the tantrums of the two just to cover up their embarrassment. "No need. We can afford to eat at expensive restaurants even without my brother," Lucy replied irritably, raising her eyebrows, she stared at Emma and Gun with a disapproving look. "Why did you eat together with your maid? And who is that handsome guy? Did my brother agree to let you bring a man into the house?" She clenched her fist in secret because she didn't like what Lucy said. She seemed to look down on Emma and Gun as if she had a higher social status, even though they only lived in a government housing project. "First, there's nothing wrong with me eating with my maid because, like me, she is also a human being. Second, the man you are referring to is Gun. He is my personal bodyguard and he stays here. And lastly, I don't need to ask for permission from your brother to enter my house, because the last time I checked the ownership of this house, it's still under my name. It means I am the owner of this house so I don't need permission from anyone," she explained at length to Lucy. She used to allow Lucy to speak rudely to her before, but not anymore. She will put her in her proper place now. Lucy's face suddenly turned red with anger and was about to argue with her, but her mother quickly stopped Lucy. "I'm sorry for Lucy's behavior, Arielle. We didn't come here to argue with you. We came to discuss your upcoming wedding with Tyron," Tyron's mother said with a smile and a humble tone. She bit her lower lip when she saw Gun look up and stare at her intently. "Wedding?" Gun asked while looking at her. "Yes. My brother is going to marry Arielle. So if you have any plans to steal her from my brother, don't continue because you are not even close to his level, okay?" Lucy answered Gun's question and then gave him a scornful look. "Why are we talking about my marriage to Tyron when he hasn't even proposed to me again?" She pretended to frown while looking at them. "He still hasn't proposed to you yet? I will talk to him so he can propose to you and we can discuss your wedding." Tyron's mother held Lucy by the arm and pulled her out of the house without saying goodbye to her. After the two women left, Gun suddenly stood up from his seat and headed to the living room. She immediately followed him to explain about the wedding mentioned by the two uninvited guests in her house. "You hired me as a bodyguard because your boyfriend's life was in danger, and now I find out that you're planning to get married? Are you really that stupid, Arielle?" Gun angrily said to her. "You just wasted my time!" he added. "I'm sorry if I wasted your time, Mr. Adamson. From now on, you don't have to be my bodyguard because you're fired! When Tyron and I get married, he probably won't do anything bad to me because my wealth will also become his." Her plan to explain to Gun did not push through, instead she fired him as her bodyguard. It's because she was hurt by what Gun said. He spoke without even verifying if what he heard earlier from other people was true or not. Gun's eyes narrowed when he heard what she said, then he turned away without a word and headed to his room. When he came down, he was carrying his things and it seemed like no one was standing in the living room and he walked out of her house just like that.
