Caught in the Act

Dakota POV I couldn’t stop thinking about that girl all night. Her dark hair pulled up high and her natural makeup. The way her body fit in that two piece dress. How her calves flexed with every step she took. She smelled so delightful and I just wanted to get to know every inch of her body for the rest of my life. I heard Emily breathing deeply, signaling she was in a deep sleep and checked the time. 1:07 am. I needed a bottle of water and maybe a quick run. Jaxton grumbled at me and yawned. I kissed Emily’s temple and slipped out of the room, making my way to the kitchen. When I was around the corner, her scent softly tickled my nose, inviting me towards her. There she is. Walking away, the air in the kitchen smelling softly of fresh fruits. My foot scuffed against the floor and she quickly turned. Her gorgeous eyes were glowing in the moonlight. I stood there and stared at her, admiring her beauty from far away. If you don’t go get her, I won’t talk to you for an extended period of time. God damnit Jaxton. My body craved her touch more than anything. I felt strange and excited, practically vibrating at a different frequency. “Hi, I’m Avery Lake-“ her voice was so soft and beautiful as I crossed the kitchen to her. Her scent grew stronger with every step, flooding my senses and all my thoughts turned to her. Her eyes were so innocent as she stared up at me, her hair in soft waves down her back. Her robe and nightgown were silk, brushing against her skin with every rippling movement. I reached up and tangled my hands in her hair, my mouth meeting hers in a fevered kiss. Her moan was soft and delightful and I couldn’t help but pull her closer. My hands came up and pulled off her robe, pushing it to the ground. Her little gasp made me hard, and I bit into her lip in response. I felt her smile and push into me, making me groan. My hands found their way to her legs and lifted her up, wrapping them around my waste, my hands squeezing her ass. I set her on the counter, moving my mouth to her neck and nibbling on her collarbone, moving to her chest and n*****s. “What the f**k is going on?!” Emily’s voice rang through the air and I looked up in shock. She stared at me with tears in her eyes, her hand at her mouth. “Emily wait-“ I said, backing away from Avery. “I should have told you after dinner, but I found my mate.” Avery hopped off the counter and grabbed her robe, tying it around herself. “So you’re in a relationship?” She looked at me, crossing her arms. Ah f**k. Avery and Emily were both staring at me with different expressions, and I could feel the anger and sadness rolling off each of them. “You didn’t tell me you were in a relationship!” “I’m sorry. This is most definitely my fault. I apologize, but I will need a few days to myself to figure this out.” I said, clasping my hands together in front of me. Holy s**t, Avery smelled so delicious. But now wasn’t the time for intrusive thoughts. I quickly left the room, escaping to my office and locking the door behind me. I threw my hands in the air, tangling them in my hair in frustration. I paced back and forth around my office, thinking about how much I screwed up and how I was going to fix it. I opened the door to outside and Jaxton emerged, pushing forward in a run. Letting him take control, I pushed myself to the back of his mind as he ran off his energy. You have to let Emily go. Jaxtons words pushed through my cloud of thoughts. My heart panged at the thought of leaving her after all these years. She’s been there through a lot, but she was pushing to mark me lately and we weren’t even married yet. But Avery is my mate and I needed her in my life. Besides, even if Emily and I both rejected our mates, there was an extremely low chance of us being second chance mates. You might be right, but it hurts to think about. Jaxton was the only one I could confide in. He was literally a part of me, he experienced everything as I did. Together, we were one whole being, and he knew exactly how I felt. He pushed himself harder, bouncing around from boulder to boulder and tree to tree. I kept thinking and processing as he ran his tracks, switching paces between terrain. After the sun was already high in the sky, he made his way to the door to my office. We could smell someone in there, so I shifted back. Peeking around the corner, I noticed Avery sitting on her phone. “What can I do for you?” I said, strolling inside and grabbing shorts out of my desk drawer and sliding them on. When I looked at her, she was blushing and half shielding her eyes. I cleared my throat and she looked up. “I knew you had a girlfriend. But I have twin sisters and didn’t want to get into that last night.” She said, shifting her weight. “You having twin sisters matters why?” I said, raising an eyebrow and crossing my arms. “We’re actually triplets.”
