Avery POV
“Avery he’s looking at you.” Star whispered. I was speechless. I couldn’t react. I wanted nothing more then to run to him and wrap my arms around him, to have my fingers tangled in his hair. I began slowly walking towards him when he closed his eyes. When he opened them, they were full of hatred and he shook his head. I gasped softly in shock.
Mate! What are you doing! Go to mate!
Ember was going crazy in my head. I quickly turned away and began walking out of the dining hall. I could hear Star and Violet running to catch up.
“Avery what was that? We have to go back!” Star exclaimed. “He was staring right at you!”
“We can’t just leave our mate back there!” Violet added.
“You guys are idiots.” I pushed the doors open to the gardens. Outside was beautiful; it was the time right after dusk when the firefly’s began to light up. A light mist hung in the air, dewdrops slowly trickling down orchids and lilies, chrysanthemums and philodendrons around us. The air was heavily scented with dozens of flowers.
“What are you talking about?!” Violet said, crossing her arms. “You just walked away from our mate!” Ember huffed in agreement, angry with me.
“Did you not see the girl on his arm? That has to be the prince.” I said, sitting on a bench and taking a deep breath. I was shaking but I couldn’t let my sisters know. Star stomped her foot.
“That’s not fair!” She shouted, crossing her arms. “Why is this our fate?!”
“Star, please, calm down.” Violet said. It looked like she was upset but trying to keep us calm. I just wanted my mate. To feel his arms wrapped around me. To have his lips pressed against mine. I could already feel his breath against my neck, and my stomach fluttered.
“I just can’t believe we’re going to lose out on our mate because he’s been with this girl for so long and won’t consider us.” Stars eyes were tearing up. “I never thought I did anything to deserve something like this.”
“You probably didn’t.” Violet said, rubbing Stars shoulders. If we were all mates to him, it was right they were both so upset with me and the situation. I didn’t feel it was fair, either, and Ember was frantic and rightfully pissed.
How dare she take our mate away? Our fated mate!
She was ranting about everything she could.
She knew his mates would show soon and that’s why she’s rushing the marriage! It was all probably her idea!
I rolled my eyes at Ember.
You have every right to be upset at the situation, but I highly doubt she knew his mates were coming and rushed a marriage because of it.
She huffed at me and rolled her eyes. I rolled my eyes back and we began ignoring each other. I looked at both of my sisters.
It’s not like our parents would be upset if we chose our own way in life. Our brothers could become the alphas and we could be elites. Xavier might be slightly upset, he believes in our full potential of becoming powerful Lunas. Much like our three fathers became powerful alphas with a large lumber business.
They fought like hell from what my sisters and I were told as kids. Wyatt and Xander were bullies to our mom, Lilith. And some girls named Monica and Chelsea escalated it further. I closed my eyes at the thought of being kidnapped and threatened, my heart beating fast.
“I think it’s time we went back to our room and packed to go home.” I said, standing up. Star and Violet looked over, wide eyed.
“What are we going to do?” Star whispered, and I shrugged. I just wanted to get away from all this and go home.
“We have to talk to him in private and reject him.” Violet whispered. My mouth hung open in shock. Star whipped her head at Violet, who looked at the ground. She nodded and Violet looked away. I took a deep breath and we made our way back to our room. It felt like a very long walk; the halls all looked the same with different paintings here and there. How they found so many paintings and decorations to go with royal purple and silver, I’ll never know.
Our room was neatly prepared for us to come back to, a few days worth of night clothes, evening gowns, morning gowns, and everyday gowns lined up for each of us on a rack. I decided to pack the ones I liked the most, folding them into my suitcases along with my other clothes. We changed into our pajamas, scrolling through our social medias for a while. The air was filled with little giggles from each of us as we watched videos.
After a while, Star and Violet had fallen asleep. I stood up and stretched, making my way to the large bay window in the middle of the stone wall. The air was crisp with a slight chill that felt amazing against my skin. There were miles and miles of forest surrounding this castle, with mountains running along the east. I took a deep breath and relaxed in the scent of fresh air and mist. My stomach softly rumbled and I remembered I hadn’t eaten much tonight but a few things off platters omegas were walking around with.
I took a robe off a hanger and wrapped it around myself. Both my pajamas and my robe were silk, and the pajamas didn’t provide a lot of coverage. I tied it off and slipped out of the room, closing the door gently behind me. Shuffling down the dimly lit hallways, I made my way to the kitchen. In the pantry, I found leftover roast and vegetables, chicken and rice, some pastas, a few salads, platters with fish, and an assortment of other leftovers, fruits, and drinks.
I grabbed some pineapple chunks, a kiwi, a few strawberries, and a handful of blueberries and put them in a bowl, peeling and slicing the kiwi and pulling the leaves from the strawberries. I sat there and ate my fruits, enjoying the crisp flavors dancing on my tongue. I took a long sip from the water bottle I grabbed and capped it, finishing my fruits and putting the bowl in the sink with the few other dishes from late night snackers.
I began making my way back to my room when I heard someone else enter the kitchen and a delicious scent wafted in front of my nostrils. My eyes widened and I whirled around to see Dakota. He stared at me intently, but I couldn’t read him.
“Hi, I’m Avery Lake.” I whispered, my throat squeezing shut as he closed the gap between us. I looked up at him nervously, his brown eyes meeting my orange and green ones. He had full lips and a perfect nose, a strong jawline and a head full of curls; he was a beautiful man fitting to be a Lycan Alpha. I looked like a little kid standing next to him.
My heart thumped nervously in my chest as I stared up at him and waited for him to say something, anything! Ember was freaking out being so close to her mate. I sighed and moved to go back to my room when his hand reached around and wrapped in my hair, pulling my head back and crashing his lips against mine.
The contact of our skin sent sparks shooting through my face and head, making me dizzy. His lips were soft, his other hand grabbing my hip and pulling me to him. I moaned softly and he deepened the kiss, his tongue swiping through my mouth as my lips parted. His hands covered my shoulders, pushing off my robe. Goosebumps covered me as the cold air hit my skin and I gasped.
He took the opportunity to grab my lip with his teeth and bite down, making me gasp again in excitement. I could taste the blood on my tongue and wrapped my arms around him, pressing our bodies closer together. He picked me up, wrapping my legs around his waist and setting me on the counter, his mouth moving to my neck. He nibbled on my collarbone and I cried out softly.
“What the f**k is going on?!”
