Dakota POV
“I really thought you’d be happier than this.” I said, looking down at Emily’s pouty face.
“I am happy with this. But what about when we meet our true mates? What will we do?” She said, picking at the buttons near my neck.
“Reject them.” I said, my eyes sharpening. She looked at me, her brows furrowing.
“But that’s so painful. Why not just mark each other? It’s beautiful and won’t make us have to reject our true mates.” She pouted, staring into my eyes. I groaned when her hand slid lower to grip my belt.
“I’ll think about it.” I said, removing her hand and moving towards the large mirror above her vanity.
“Okay but we’re getting married within the year, so please slightly hurry with thinking about it. I’d like to have pups eventually.” She said, fixing her dress. It was a beautiful floor length silver form fitting dress that sparkled at every angle. Her white blonde hair was braided in a beautiful pattern, smokey eyeshadow and a bright red lip intensifying the outfit. A pair of bright red pumps and a necklace of pearls complete her.
I looked over at her with a small smile. Jaxton growled softly in my head, muttering about true mates.
“Of course we’ll have pups some day. I love you so much. But I want to make sure we’re okay and the pack is okay before rushing into pups.” I said. Her eyes widened into saucers.
“Rushing? We’ve been together for five years!” She exclaimed. I sighed internally.
“That’s not how I meant it and you know it.” I said, fixing my neckline and sleeves. “Of course I want to have pups with you. But I have responsibilities to attend to.” I stood up straight, turning towards her. “Emily.” She crossed her arms. I walked over to her and put my hand under her chin, forcing her to look up at me.
“Emily Marie, I love you with all my heart. I want to spend forever with you, and we have forever to spend together. Let’s live a little before taking on the responsibility of parenting.” I stared into her eyes as I said this, and she nodded when I was finished.
“I can do that.” She said softly, smiling and glancing at my lips. Her arms wrapped around my neck, her lips pecking against mine. “I love you Dakota James.” Her voice was quiet and I smiled as I placed my hands on her hips, gently kissing her back.
“Are you ready to celebrate our engagement with the pack?” I said, smiling down at her.
“I’m ready to celebrate our engagement with each other.” She giggled. Her eyes sparkled and I chuckled. I grabbed her hand and we began walking to the dining hall, our fingers and arms tangled together. I could hear the chatter in the dining hall from down the hallway, the stone walls reverberating with sound.
I didn’t want a large introduction, so we walked into the dining hall as any other person or couple would, slipping seamlessly into the crowd. I grabbed a flute of champagne for Emily and I, continuing to wander around.
“There’s the happy couple.” My soon to be beta said, spinning in a circle and offering his hand to Emily. She took it and he kissed her hand, bowing to me.
“Shut up Eric.” I rolled my eyes and he chuckled.
“How was Russia?” He asked, grabbing champagne. He swirled it in the glass and downed the entire flute in one gulp.
“Cold as hell. I couldn’t even fu-“
“Congratulations Prince.” People we’re starting to gather around. Emily and I smiled and waved. I started to pull her away when the most beautiful scents hit my nose. I looked around wildly, trying to pinpoint the scents when my eyes fell on a girl near a table. She was staring back at me, a dreamy look on her face. Her eyes were wild colors, one a burnt amber color and the other a beautiful jade. Her dark hair was in a high ponytail, a gorgeous two piece dress sitting on her perfectly toned body.
I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. There she was.
Mate.
