Chapter Three - Trusting Dylan

1853 Words
Ava’s P.O.V The clock had hit midnight, and everyone was in good spirits, enjoying themselves, even me. Dylan has not mentioned anything about our conversation again. Everyone was drunk and making the most of the night. Dylan was still next to me, his arm over the back of my chair. He has barely left my side all night. “Party back at mine?” Dylan suggested. Everyone liked the idea. I never said a word, not sure if I wanted to go or not. “Ava?” He said, turning his attention to me, a hopeful look in his eyes. I was going to say no, but to those eyes, I couldn’t. It was like every time he looked at me; I got lost in his eyes and lost all sense. I smiled, nodding my head, in return, he gave me the biggest smile, which made me giggle. We finished our drinks, heading out to try hail down a couple of cabs. The street is mobbed, possibly a long wait. I found myself shivering cause it was a lot colder now than what it was earlier. I knew I should have brought a coat with me. “You cold Ava?” Dylan asked, noticing my shivering. I nodded, laughing a little. “Come here.” He said, putting arms out to me. “It is OK, honestly. I will be fine, thank you, though.” I said, giving him a small smile. He raised his brow at me, a slight sternness to his look. I sighed, shaking my head, stepping into him. He wrapped his arms around, making me tense at first, just like earlier when he went to touch me. He pulled me into his chest, reaching down, kissing the top of my head. “Relax I would never hurt you, Ava.” He whispered, sensing it was making me anxious. He took his coat off, placing it over my shoulders. I looked up at him, Dylan smiling at me, and I felt my entire body relax for the first time in, well ever probably while being this close to another person. I felt safe in his arms. “Thank You,” I said, smiling at him. He nodded before going back to hugging me close, staying that way until we finally managed to get cabs. Dylan, Alannah, Aiden and I went in the one cab; the others in another cab, following our taxi back to Dylan’s place. It wasn’t too far from where I stayed; the area was more upper class, though where Dylan stayed. Dylan and Aiden halved the cab between them before we all headed towards Dylan’s place. Alannah pulled me back, so we were a few steps behind everyone else. “What is going on with you and Dylan?” She asked. “Nothing. Why do you ask?” I asked. “You sure about that? He has barely left your side all night. And he can’t keep his eyes away from you either. Did something happen between you both?” She asked, hopefully. “I am sure it is only because he is drunk.” I giggled, “And no, nothing has happened between us.” I added. “Ava, he wasn’t drunk when he met you. The moment he laid his eyes on you, I could see it there. I could see he was interested in you. How did I never think about setting you two up? He is such a good guy with a heart of gold.” She smiled. “I think you have had too much to drink. You are delusional, guys like that don’t go for girls like me.” I said shrugging it off, walking in front of her. I knew that would not be the last of it; she will bring it up again, I know she will. As soon as I walked into Dylan’s apartment, I was amazed, the place was incredible. He had the most beautiful art on the wall, and another wall had different guitars on it. Whoa! He has good taste. I wondered if he played. I let my eyes wander over the guitars, running my fingers over them and smiling. I always wanted to learn to play the guitar but never did. “Do you play?” I heard behind me, making me jump a little, “Sorry never meant to scare you.” He added, and I realised it was Dylan. I turned to look at him, shaking my head. “I always wanted to but never got around to doing it,” I said sadly. “I could teach you. I play both the acoustic and electric.” He smiled. “I am sure you have better things to do. Thank You, though.” I smiled. “I honestly wouldn’t mind in the slightest teaching you. Think about it; get back to me.” He smiled. I nodded before we headed to join everyone else, Dylan and Aiden getting us all drinks. Dylan put some music on, all the girls getting up to dance, well minus me. I giggled as I watched them all dancing around like crazy people, crazy drunk people, they were having fun which was the main thing. “Ava, come on,” Alannah said, trying to encourage me to go dance with them. “No, thank you! I am fine right here.” I giggled. She pouted at me, sticking her tongue out at me before getting back to dancing. I sighed, feeling content, leaning back on the sofa, a small smile on my face as I looked around. As the girls were dancing, Aiden and Dylan were playing darts, arguing with each other, typical competitive men. That made me giggle too. I decided I would sneak away for five minutes. Dylan had a balcony that is where I decided to go. I opened the doors, stepping out and whoa! The view of Miami from here was amazing, you could see for miles. It made the place look beautiful, peaceful even, all the lights were amazing. I gushed to myself in amazement. I sighed, leaning against the balcony’s bar, taking it all in. I stood there, getting lost in my own little world for a few minutes. “Can I join you?” I heard behind me. I looked over my shoulder, nodding. “It is your house. I don’t think you need permission.” I giggled. “I know. You seemed to be content in your own little world, thought would ask in case you wanted to be alone.” Dylan smiled at me. A comfortable silence fell between us as we stared into the lights in front of us. I could feel him looking at me now and again. I never responded to him though cause I don’t think he realised I knew he was doing it—all of a sudden I saw his hand move, coming towards mine. I looked at him, but he was somewhere else. His hand landed on top of mine, linking his fingers through mine. I froze at first, only for a second then wholly relaxed. It seemed that my body decided to trust him…trust his touch, even with something as simple as what he was doing right now. If that were anyone else I would have pulled away, rushed off or found an excuse to leave. He eventually turned to face me, looking me straight in the eye. I swallowed hard; it felt as if he could see through it all, see straight into my broken soul. The look terrified me in a way. I went to pull away. “Ava, please don’t,” He whispered out. “I’m sorry. I need to.” I said, pulling away from him, rushing back inside. I took a seat on one of his chairs. That way, he can’t come to sit next to me. Dylan followed a moment later, sitting down on the sofa next to Aiden. Aiden turned to him. “You OK buddy?” I heard him ask. “Yeah, fine,” Dylan replied, looking at me, rather than at Aiden. Dylan was looking at me, making Aiden look at me too, then back at Dylan, a confused look on his face. I quickly turned away from them. Alannah came over to me, handing me a drink before sitting on the edge of the chair next to me. The time she turned back to me, my drink was gone. “You doing, OK? You want to go?” She asked. “I am OK. No, I am fine, honestly.” I smiled. “OK if you say so. Drink?” She asked, and I nodded. “Dylan, where is the drink?” Alannah asked him “Kitchen. What are you after? I will go get it for you.” He smiled. “Just two of the same please.” Alannah smiled. “Anyone else need  drinks?” He asked, looking around, and everyone said yes. “Ava, can you give Dylan a hand, please? I am gonna steal two minutes with my very sexy boyfriend over there.” She giggled. I giggled too, nodding my head. Dylan headed into the Kitchen, me following behind him. I stood awkwardly in his Kitchen as he made everyone drinks. I heard him chuckle a little. “What you laughing at?” I said c*****g a brow, placing my hand on my hip, looking at him. “You. Your too cute at times.” He smiled. “Cute? What am I a puppy dog?” I giggled. I felt relaxed all of a sudden after feeling awkward; only ten seconds go. That last drink must be going to my head. “What is wrong with cute?” He laughed. “Cute is for babies, puppies and kittens.” I giggled. “If you insist. You want a couple of sneaky shots before we head back through?” He laughed. I nodded my head. Dylan grabbed a couple of shot glasses, filling them up, sitting them on the kitchen counter. “Well come on then. I don’t bite.” He chuckled. I rolled my eyes, making my way over to where he was, grabbing two of the shots, shooting them one after the other, Dylan following my lead. He winked at me once we were finished. “Another?” He smirked “Sure, why not.” I laughed. We did another two shots each before grabbing everyone’s drinks, heading back through to join everyone. Alannah had dragged Aiden up to dance with her, Jessica and Britney were on the sofa, laughing and joking, Ally sitting on the chair, throwing her hands in the air, dancing where she sat. I giggled, handing them their drinks. I went to sit down before I could Alannah grabbed me, pulling me towards her, Aiden moving out of the way. “Dance with me,” She said, batting her lashes at me. “Nope!” I laughed. “You have to it is my birthday.” She pouted. Technically it wasn’t because it was after midnight. I decided it would be best to give into her. I am glad of the shots I had with Dylan cause I was drunk again, more relaxed and not caring. Alannah and I danced around the living room, laughing and doing a terrible job of it which made it even funnier. She reached into my ear. “You have an admirer.” She giggled, nodding in Dylan’s direction. I looked over; she was right enough. He was standing against a wall, watching me, a smile playing on his lips. I shrugged, laughing at how silly I probably looked right now, Dylan laughing in return. “Go talk to him, Ava.” She said, gently pushing me in Dylan’s direction. “I have been talking to him, most of the night.” I laughed. “Well, go talk to him again. Run along now.” She said sternly. “Yes, mother,” I said, rolling my eyes at her. I headed in Dylan’s direction, his smile growing when he saw me approach him. Hopefully, this time around I can talk to him for more than five minutes before I runoff.
