CHAPTER 29

Cassian

Devouring the last slice of my favorite country feast pizza, I noticed the two pairs of eyes looking at me with disappointment and anger residing in them.

“Oops!!! I ate it, you guys wanted some?” I said while winking at them.

“The way he ate that pizza already made me lose my appetite…” Katia complained and started scrolling through her phone.

“Dude!! Don’t you think you are much better than before? Your appetite has increased, all of a sudden?” Alarous inquired with his eyebrows raised up in the air.

I frowned and thought about it. He is right, indeed. I ate three large pizzas by myself, where Alarous and Katia shared one large pizza.

“Maybe, since i discovered this amazing power inside me, the beast awakened and now he is filling his tummy too…” I said in a monotonous voice.

“Maybe.. I hope your beast is full now because we are running out of money. Which means, we have to start earning something before we go bankrupt.” Alarous pointed out and I jumped to a conclusion.

“Why don’t we rob a bank? We don’t have to work and earn..” i suggested them with excitement rushing inside me.

Katia looked hollow at me, “did he smoke weed?” she turned her head to Alarous and asked him instead.

He shrugged his shoulders and got up to pick the empty cartons from the table.

“So, when did we have to fight these shadow warriors?” I asked in amusement.

Alarous came rushing into the living room and his eyes popped like he saw some ghost.

“You are pale. Is everything okay?” Katia asked him after observing the same expression as me.

“No!! Nothing is right, those shadow warriors have found us.. They are on the ground level, I just saw them getting inside…” Alarous hissed slowly and Katia gasped.

“Oh no!!!” she said with a pressure on her lips.

“Glad, we finished our pizza in time. I don’t like someone interrupting my dinner…” i stood up and turned my eyes red before the flames danced over my hands. They were more intense than before.

“Kid, you are a fast learner but still i want to suggest you, keep your powers up to you until it is required. Your power will exhaust your body and we don’t want that to happen..” he said.

“Why?” I revolted.

“Because you will die if your body gets deeply exhausted..” Katia said with an irritation in her voice.

Okay!!! Now I have to be more careful.

“Grab all the weapons, we have to fight them..” Alarous ordered us and he rushed inside the store room to fetch some of his hand made weapons.

He brought a box of mixed weapons, swords and daggers, other small knives and four headed ninja weapons.. Heck! I don’t even know their names, how will I use them. I noticed Katia filling her pockets with the weapons and hiding a few in her outfit. She already seemed ready to tackle them.

“Do you know how to use that one?” Alarous asked me while pointing the weapon in my hand.

“No!! But do we have time to learn?” I asked while flaring my nose.

“Yeah! You are right…” he shrugged his shoulders and filled his weapon requirements.

“Just slice and dig…” Katia said while showing a demo from her dagger.

“Slice and dig!!! Okay.. very useful…” I nodded and everyone seemed ready.

“Guys, listen, we have to work as a team. In case we get apart, try to stay alive and meet me at the basement parking of the building.. Got it?” Alarous formulated a plan and we agreed to work on it.

We opened the door with a cease and watched carefully for an intruder before stepping out from my apartment. I don't want to die at the beginning of the battle. Eyes focused and ears alert, we headed to the stairs as we found them convenient to use in this situation. Guarding each other, we went one floor down, however we didn’t hear a single sound, that was strange and awkward.

We exchanged looks with each other as none of them shadow warriors appeared yet.

“Are you sure you spotted them? They are nowhere to be seen.” I stood and asked.

Suddenly, I felt a sword passing beside me, just an inch away. It scared me as I saw a mumfied creature, like a wolf or monkey as it stood on two legs. Its violet red eyes pierced through it.

He launched at me with another attack but Alarous pierced his sword through his back to his chest, killing him instantly.

“s**t!! What the f**k is that thing?” I screamed.

“Shhh!!!!” Alarous widened his eyes at me, “don’t invite others here. Follow me to a safer place…” he kept his voice as low as possible.

Before we reached the next floor, there were, I guess fifty minimum, same creatures standing, actually waiting for us. I was stunned to see them. We were just three of us, and there were more than fifty. How are we going to fight them?

One of them stepped forward, “so, thesaurus blood was hiding in this time zone.” he stated with a smirk on his face, while Alarous looked serious, actually, he was concerned.

“Get away, Aseatus!!! You are already dead, I hope you don’t want to die a second time.” Alarous warned him and I watched them exchanging words in an alienated language.

“What should we do?” Katia asked in a low voice.

“Run!!! As far as you can… I will handle them here.” Alrarous ordered us and we ran away.

Though, there was no point in running as these creatures have already covered the whole building. They kept coming and coming until Katia took out the blade and sliced their head one by one. 

I was really touched by her bravery and took out my sword as well, “slice and dig…..” I chanted those words and did what my mind said to me.

Suddenly, it blacked out for a second and I felt my body moving on it’s own. My hands went to guard the attack and counter attack to defend. The creatures flew away as my power threw them at the last corner of the corridor.

“How did you do that?” Katia asked in fascination.

“I don’t know…” I shrugged and focused back on the fight.

If i can do this, i should do it more often. I felt leaving Alarous behind was a mistake, he might need my help, so I turned and rushed back to the same floor, killing more creatures in my way.

Katia covered me like a warrior as her skills were more developed than me. She took out ninja weapons, threw them in the air. Those small weapons were deadly as their tiny blades were poisonous.

Then I saw Alarous on the floor and that Aseatus, what kind of name is that?, on top of him, killing him almost.

I couldn’t resist so I made the flame and threw it on him. “Find a place to hide, rodents!!!!!” I screamed as I felt the flames rising higherer.

The fire alarm rang because of my flames and the water sprinkled in the corridor. The water made those mummified creatures run. I didn’t waste the time watching them leave, I held up with Alarous, who looked fine.

“Why did you do that? I told you not to use your powers..” Alarous seemed furious.

“Should I let you die there?” I demanded an answer from him.

“This hasn't stopped here. They will come again.” Alarous said while rubbing his temples.

“I don’t understand, what they were and why they were here?” I asked him.

He stood and breathed some air.

“Aseatus, son of Lycaon… he was here for you. They find you…” he said.

“Me? Why?” I asked him.

“Because Cassian is different and powerful?” Katia asked him.

“Not just that, he isn’t even a human…” Alarous hissed and suddenly, the floor parted.

“What the f**k is happening?” I screamed but I fell… 

The darkness was black and haunting, consuming me until I got lost inside of it.
