The Pain Of Love

HOUSEWORK PT. 2

By noon Jacob and Skylar dump the last of the weeds that they took from the back yard and Mr. Ackerman gave them a list of supplies to get for the room and walls of the house so they can fix it up. Skylar made a call to a burger place and ordered burger for everybody with some drinks, and they picked up their order from Home Depot as well and they went back home they all ate first before they began doing work again.

“You guys can start on doing the front of the house takes two people, just use a hammer and pull the boards out” Mr. Ackerman said.

“Okay” All of them said.

Once they finished their food, Jacob did the side with Daniel, Skyler did the front with Tony and Elliot they took out the woods from the front and side, so they went to the back and did the same thing along with the other side.

“Okay, Jacob will help me cut you guys hammer” Mr. Ackerman said.

They all nodded their heads and went back to work on the house, Jake and Tony went to Home Depot to get some paint and soil for the garden that will go around the house by the time they came back, Skyler and Daniel were painting the front of the house while the others started on the side of the house. Close to evening time Skyler and Jake went to get food for everybody this time they got subs and chips with drinks as well and brought it back once Mr. Ackerman left the five boys went up to Skyler.

“We decided to use the gifts on how many times we help in the next few days” Jason said.

“We also want it twice” Daniel said.

“One” Skyler said

The six huddles up as Skylar looked at Jacob and they were about to laugh.

“Okay one a day each” Samuel said.

“Okay see you guys in the morning” Skylar said.

The guys left as Jacob and Skylar sat on the porch as the sun was setting.

“I have work in the morning” Jacob said.

“And I’ll be here, have to buy some equipment for my welding and pottery stove and do some plans again also for my photos I need to order the liquid.” Skylar said.

“When is your work coming in?” Jacob said.

“I believe on Friday so have to finish up the garage before then” Skylar said.

“Lucky you have some works to help you this week” Jacob said.

“Yeah, in trade for beer.” Skylar said.

“Wish we had older siblings to do this for us” Jacob said.

“Yeah, right nerd. You would’ve just been in the books instead of partying” Skylar said.

“Says the girl that sneaked out to go to those parties” Jacob said.

“I did not” Skylar said.

Jacob and Skylar laughed, and they said their good nights as Skylar went back inside the house taking a quick shower grab her luggage from her old room and putting her clothes away and getting some sheets on her bed. Skylar then went back downstairs and snuggle up to her mother as they were watching some tv show.

“You tired?” her mother asked.

“A bit but I am loving the new house” Skylar said.

“I bet it’ll look beautiful when you guys finish” her mother said.

“It will be, next is the roof” Skylar said.

“I thought you were going to start on your equipment” her mother said.

“I have to order might take a while to come in but for now, I want to do the house” Skylar said.

“You always wanted to remodel the home since you were a little girl” her mother said.

“Now I can” Skylar said.

“I know” her mother said.

“When is your next chemo appointment?” Skylar asked.

“Wednesday” her mother said.

“I can take you and we can eat out” Skylar said.

“It’s fine dear, besides, it’s going to take a lot out of me, we can just order in and have a movie night like we use too” her mother said.

“I’d like that too” Skylar said.

“Now show me some of your work” her mother said.

“Really” Skylar said excited.

Her mother smiled and nodded her head, Skylar squeal out and got up from the couch running to her room to grab her laptop, downstairs her mother cough out in a tissue as some blood was mixed with it. She quickly covered it and drank some water as she heard footsteps coming back.

“My painting equipment will be in till Friday so for now I can just show you pictures” Skylar said.

Skylar place the laptop between them and went to her gallery section and showed her mother.

“I love that metal” her mother said.

“It’s a Columbian flower on top it looks like a flower and when you go to a specific angle you can see the flower again, took me almost three weeks to finish sold it for a million” Skylar said.

“Maybe you can do one of my favorite flowers” her mother said.

“I think I can do that, but have it spin slowly around add some heat glass to it” Skylar said.

“You would have to name the artwork as well” her mother said.

“We can call it Lillian” Skylar said.

“Show me how you would do it” her mother Lilly said.

Skylar smiled and opened her painting floormat and took out her pen and began to draw out how she would do it the top would look like a Lilly and the heat glass will make it look like rain drops and she would leave a small opening to show what inside the flower would look like.

“What do you think?” Skylar said.

“I like it, you can even melt down your father’s old tools, can you do that?” her mother asked.

“I like that a piece of him and a piece of you” Skylar said.

“And use the scraps as paint of something on the metal or like dark to light something like that” her mother said.

“You mother are giving me awesome ideas that I can’t wait to start” Skylar said.

“I know, now help me to my room to get some sleep” her mother said.

Skylar nodded her head, as she got up from the couch and helped her mother into her room then she went back out towards the living room grab her laptop and headed upstairs about an hour later Skylar finally ordered all her equipment she needed and when they will be delivered to her. Skylar place the laptop away and got into bed turning off her lamp to get some sleep. The next morning Skylar woke up, she stretches out rubbing her face she felt a bit sore all over her body but she still got up and went towards the bathroom and freshen up and went downstairs where she saw the nurse from Friday when she came home.

“I see you guys been busy this weekend” the nurse said.

“Yeah, sorry forgot to introduce myself Skylar” Skylar said.

“Tracey, worked with your mother for five years before she had to retire” Tracey said.

“Really, that’s cool” Skylar said.

“Fresh pot of coffee is up” Tracey said.

“Thanks” Skylar said

She pours herself a cup and sat down watching Tracey cook.

“What are you planning on doing now since your home” Tracey said.

“I have to get my workshop up and running and wait for my paintings to come in and head out to some galleries around to see if they are interested in my work” Skylar said.

“You a painter” Tracey said.

“And among other things” Skylar said.

“Modeling” Tracey said.

Skylar chuckled and nodded her head.

“Just money to put me through college, I wanted to be an artist and the best art schools are in Europe and I was lucky the modeling agency was near a school” Skylar said.

“How much do you sell your work for?” Tracey said.

“Millions” Skylar said.

“No s**t” Tracey said.

“Yeah, I had help in Europe but here might be a bit harder” Skylar said.

“Well, they be a fool if they didn’t accept your work” Tracy said.

“Yeah, they would but for now just fix up the home and wait till my stuff get here by Friday so I can actually show my stuff to them” Skylar said.

“I may can help you on that, I think my friend still works at a gallery in San Antonio maybe I can get you a meeting on Saturday” Tracey said.

“Really?” Skylar said.

Tracey smiled and nodded at her, soon there was knocks at the door.

“Time to get to work” Skylar said.

Tracey handed her a sandwich first then Skylar went out saw the six boys there as Mr. Ackerman was walking over, they began working where they left off painting the second coat around the home.

“Mr. Ackerman” Skylar said.

“Yes Skylar” David said.

“I was wondering if we can do a second story on the garage, you think that possible” Skylar said.

“I don’t see why not but it will take more then these six boys, I’ll see if Pete can come over and lend some of his men and we can get it done a few days but Pete is going to coast a lot” David said.

“That’s fine, also I ordered my welding and pottery stove will be here next week we would have to build a shade house out back so it can be set up” Skylar said.

“You really staying for good” David said.

“Yeah, I am” Skylar said.

“Okay, Jake” David called

Jake came over to them.

“Take two of the boys and bring these back from Home Depot and the rest will go in the back once were done painting” David said.

He was writing down what a list and handed him the paper and Skylar gave her card to him, they hooked up the flat bed and Jake left with Jason and Samuel, the rest finished painting and they went to the back.

“Where at?” David said.

“About right here need a walking path as well” Skylar said.

“Alright boys I want a one feet deep hole in a big rectangle from here to here” David said.

He places a flag down in a rectangle shape, the each began digging as David went to call Pete since he is a boss for a construction company and that he would be there in the afternoon at noon Tracey came out with some lemonade and couple made sandwiches as they took a break.

“Pete will be here in an hour” David said.

“Why not cool off in the river for a bit” Skylar said.

The guys cheered as they got up and ran to the river.

“Let me go change” Skylar said.

David nodded his head, Skylar went back into the house and grab her red swimsuit and grab a towel and tie her hair up in a high ponytail, Skylar was slim woman she had full breast, a bit of butt on her, her lashes was full and dark, she has grey eyes, red full lips high cheek bones her face was slim, her hair was halfway her back light brown almost golden. Skylar got closer as she saw the boys jumping off the small dock that was made.

“How’s the water” Skylar yelled.

“It feels great jump right in” Jake yelled.

Skylar chuckled she place the towel down and took her slippers off as she made a running start and jump in the river it was cold but the sun shining on them made it feel nice, Skylar swam around relaxing enjoying the cold river of Colorado.

“Sky, Pete is here” Jake yelled from the dock.

Skylar looked up and saw she sawm a few yards out, so she began swimming back to shore, Jason came up to her with her towel.

“Thanks” Skylar said.

“Yeah” Jason said.

They began walking back towards the house, Skylar was drying her hair and put it in a messy bun went inside the house from the backdoor and up to her room where she took off her swimsuit and got a pair of fresh underwear and clothes and her sneakers back on. When she got back downstairs and out of the house, she saw Mr. Ackerman talking with another man.

“Here she is. Pete, you remember Skylar” David said.

“Of course, welcome home Skylar” Pete said.

“Hey Mr. Wilson” Skylar said.

“What are you planning here?” Pete asked.

“I want a second story on the garage” Skylar said.

“Let me see” Pete said.

Pete grabs a ladder from his truck and began to climb up the ladder and started looking around the roof then he got back down and looked inside the garage.

“What you trying to build?” Pete said.

“Art studio, that small room is the photo develop area, in the back were going to make a big stove for the pottery this bottom half will be for welding and the top floor will be the paint and air heat glass” Skylar said.

“Really, nice I did a few for the galleries so I have some left-over equipment’s that you can use” Pete said.

“Really which equipment’s do you have?” Skylar said.

“Just the heat glass and a few of the red lights for the photo developer” Pete said.

“Great I’ll take it” Skylar said.

“We can start in the morning” Pete said.

“Okay thank you Mr. Wilson” Skylar said.

Pete left, and they began unloading the stuff that Jake and the other brought back and put it in the back of the house.

“Okay for now just put the cement down and we should be done for the day” David said.

“Okay” Skylar said.

The even out the rectangle hole and they mixed the cement and added the wire layers at the bottom, and they slowly pour the cement inside it took about two hours and they were finished, Mr. Ackerman went home the guys invited Skylar to go hiking but she needed to by some things, so she declines their offer. Once everyone left Skylar went upstairs and change into some nice clothes fixing her hair and make-up and then told her mother and Tracey, she was going out for a few hours to get supplies that she needed. Skylar drove to the phone store she needed a new phone she left her other phone back in New York, a few people stop her as they knew her from her modeling and took some pictures with them. Skylar went to a clothing store, where she was looking for some clothes.

“Skylar Williams?”

Skylar heard a deep voice, Skylar turned and saw a guy walking towards her in a construction outfit dirty jean, boots, grey shirt a cap.

“Avery” Skylar said.

“Hey, when did you get back to town?” Avery said.

“Um, Friday morning” Skylar said.

“Cool so you just visiting or?” Avery said.

“Staying, I am actually remodeling my mom’s place, Jacob and his family are helping along with some of his friends” Skylar said.

“Really, you know you could’ve called my dad” Avery said.

“Yeah, we did he’s going to build a second story for me above the garage” Skylar said.

“Oh, so you’re the artist client” Avery said.

“Yeah, needed a place to do my work” Skylar said.

“I thought you were a model” Avery said.

“I am, well I was but I really wanted to do art, so used the modeling money and paid my way through college” Skylar said.

“Great, so I guess I’ll see you tomorrow” Avery said.

“Yeah, it was nice seeing you Avery” Skylar said.

“You too Skylar” Avery said.

They gave an awkward hug, and Skylar went back to looking for clothes when she got a few pair and some shoes she went to the check out, when she got out, she saw a high-end store and thought some business clothes would help with the interviews when she goes to the gallery. Skylar place her clothes in the truck and walked towards the store and went inside the place.

“Hello welcome” A lady came up to her.

“Hello, do you have any Channel or Vera Wang?” Skylar said.

“A few and some Michael Kors, what are you looking for in particular” the woman said.

“I got her Machelle. Well, isn’t Skylar Williams” A woman said walking up to them.

“Donna, hello” Skylar said.

“We have the latest style in the back row, you are a size two?” Donna said.

“Zero” Skylar said

Donna smiled, Skylar knows that Donna Summers never like her in high school or even now apparently.

“How’s modeling?” Donna said.

Skylar was looking through the clothes.

“Great, so much fun” Skylar said.

“I’m sure, find what you’re looking for?” Donna said.

“Not quite is this all you have?” Skylar said.

“We get new shipments from San Antonio story every Friday” Donna said.

“Is this the only high-end place in town?” Skylar asked.

“There are a few places yes” Donna said.

“Thanks, I’ll check them out” Skylar smiled at her.

Skylar walked out of the store, taking out her phone looking for the stores she found on a few blocks down, so she got in the truck and went over, she was able to find what she was looking for and got a few business suits and dresses she liked, she also found a nice Armin suit for Jacob and a nice dress for her mother. Skylar then went to get some food for herself and then she drove home, when she got back Jacob was waiting on the porch, she looked at the phone and it was past five.

“Hey stranger” Jacob said.

“Hello to you too” Skylar said.

“Need help” Jacob said.

“That would be gentlemen of you” Skylar said.

Jacob got up and help with her bags as they went inside up to Skylar’s room where she put her clothes away and gave her gifts to him and her mother.

“This is sick, I feel so expensive” Jacob said.

“Yeah, I can’t wait to see how it looks on you” Skylar said.

“I hope it fits” Jacob said.

“Well go try it on” Skylar said.

Jacob got up from the bed and went towards the master bathroom, Skylar got up and laid out some clothes she would wear for Saturday interview all she needs now was some black shoes to go with it.

“It fits” Jacob said.

Skyler came out of the closet looking at him.

“I have nice taste, you look slamming” Skylar said.

“Now just need the shoes” Jacob said.

“What are your sizes anyway, I saw some nice pairs, but I didn’t know your size” Skylar said.

“13 and half” Jacob said.

“Noted and the suit does look nice” Skylar said.

“Yeah, oh I have a client in San Antonio this weekend leaving Friday” Jacob said.

“Really, well if you must know Tracey is going to hook me up with an art gallery there on Saturday, we can drive down together” Skylar said.

“Alright but leaving early in the morning so you have to be ready by six” Jocab said.

“Fine with me, I had shoots much earlier than that” Skylar said.

“Alright, I will see if I can get out early so I can help tomorrow” Jacob said.

“Okay, you won’t believe who I ran into today” Skylar said.

“Who?” Jacob said.

“Avery and Donna” Skylar said.

“Ah the prom king and almost prom queen” Jacob said.

“Yeah, I think she’s still holding a grudge about that” Skylar said.

“Well to be fair he was her boyfriend at the time and you taking the crown away from her. Who wouldn’t hold a grudge” Jacob said.

“Come on that was five years ago” Skylar said.

“Donna well always be Donna, she’s just” Jacob said, raising his hand.

“b***h of the century” Skylar said.

Jacob and Skylar laughed out.

“I need to get home, long working hours” Jacob said.

“Okay, I’ll be here” Skylar said.

“Alright, good night Skylar” Jacob said.

“Oh, before I forget, got a new phone” Skylar said.

They traded phones, Skylar took a picture and type in her new number, she put her contact down as Sky-Bear like how he uses to call her when they were younger, and gave the phone back to him they said their good nights again as Jacob left back to his home. Skylar pick out some clothes that she would wear for the weekend in San Antonio, she then went downstairs where her mother was at and sat beside her.

“Glad your home baby” her mother said.

“Me too, I seen the world now I just want to be back at peace” Skylar said.

“You took the world by storm baby, and I am so proud of you” her mother said.

“I feel proud of myself too” Skylar said.

“Thank you for the dress, it’s beautiful” her mother said.

“I know it will look beautiful on you” Skylar said.

“I will feel like a million bucks in it” her mother said.

“Oh, by the way Tracey is helping me get in contact with a gallery in San Antonio, I will be going with Jacob since he has a client that weekend” Skylar said.

“When are you leaving” her mother said.

“Friday morning, hopefully I get my package before then” Skylar said.

“I hope so too” her mother said.

“You ready for bed” Skylar said.

“You read my mind” her mother said.

Skylar helped her mother up from the couch and into her room, she went back into the living room straighten up a bit and turn everything off also locking the doors before she made her way upstairs changed into her PJ’s and got into bed as well and going to bed.
