Skylar was holding her mother’s hand as they were waiting for the doctor, this was the first time again since her high school days usually it would be her father but since his pasting Skylar would sometimes go with her mother.

“I always hate waiting” Skylar said.

“You and your father” Her mother said.

Skylar smiled at her mother, a few moments later the doctor came in holding some files and placing it down on the table.

“Oh, hello” the doctor said.

“Skylar my daughter” her mother said.

“Dr. Harvey” Dr. Harvey said.

“Hello” Skylar said.

Dr. Harvey gave a smile and went to look back at the reports.

“The cancer has gotten smaller; we can operate to remove only thing is you didn’t want open so there is a machine in San Antonio hospital that has the equipment for this operation.” Dr. Harvey said.

“How quick can she get it removed” Skylar said.

“I schedule a surgery as of next Monday the sooner the better” Dr. Harvey said.

“Does she need to check in to the hospital right away?” Skylar said.

“Yes, I think Saturday or Sunday would be best so they can do test on you to see if you can. Or we can transfer you tomorrow by chopper” Dr. Harvey said.

“Mom” Skylar said.

She looked at her mother, her mother gave her a smile and patted her hand.

“I can go tomorrow, since you and Jacob will be their Friday” her mother said.

“Okay” Skylar said.

“Alright you can come in tomorrow morning and will get you settle, and you should be leaving in the early evening” Dr. Hervey said.

“Okay” Lilly said.

“Thank you, Dr. Hervey” Skylar said

Skylar help her mother up as they walked out of the office and out of the hospital.

“Want to get something to eat?” Skylar said.

“Yeah, then we do have to get my things pack” her mother said.

“If you forget anything, I can always take it for you” Skylar said.

“Okay, I was thinking of wearing that nice dress you got, and we can take pictures by the river” her mother said.

“I’d love that” Skylar said.

Skylar and her mother went to eat out and once they were finished, they went back home Skylar got her mother ready fixing her hair and makeup.

“I want you to wear this” Skylar said.

Skylar took out a brown hat and place it on her and Skylar went to hurry and got ready as well she grabs her camera and tripod and met her mother outside the back door.

“You ready” Skylar said.

“Yes” her mother said.

Skylar walked with her mother to the dock set up the tripod but first she took some of her mother then it was both together.

“I can’t wait to have these develop” Skylar said.

“I like it this outfit and the hat is beautiful.” Her mother said.

“I like it too looks good on you” Skylar said.

They sat behind the house enjoying the sun.

“The house is looking nice” her mother said.

“I know, now we just have to plant the flowers” Skylar said.

“I miss gardening” her mother said.

“You always had a green thumb” Skylar said.

“You have it too baby, I know you do” her mother said.

“Well, I have to get started when we come back from San Antonio” Skylar said.

“I hope you got all different kind of flowers to plant” her mother said.

“Of course, I did maybe about fifty packets, I got carried away” Skylar said.

“Well make sure you use them all” her mother said.

“I am, I want the flower going all the way around the house, beside the walkway and the driveway” Skylar said.

“Well, you would need to use half a packet but make sure you do different each section” her mother said.

“I also got those section green tabs that you write the name of the flower on it” Skylar said.

“That can be use full” her mother said.

“What about dinner for this evening” Skylar said.

“I was thinking a small BBQ just the two of us” her mother said.

“I can do that, let’s get change and I will get started” Skylar said.

“I’ll pack while you cook” her mother said.

“Okay” Skylar said

Skylar helped her mother up and grab her things as well, they went into the house as Skylar put her camera away and tripod then she got change tied her hair into a messy bun and went back downstairs as she began cooking the sides first, then she went towards the back where the old grill was at.

“Mom going to the store” Skylar said.

“Okay baby” her mother said.

Skylar got in the truck with her phone and purse and drove to Home Depot she knows they sell grills there, when she parks her phone rang.

“Hey Sky-Bear” Jacob said.

“Pooh-Bear” Skylar said as she giggled.

“Man, we gave the dumbest nicknames” Jacob said.

“I kind of like them” Skylar said.

“Anyways I called to say drinks tonight” Jacob said.

“I can’t mom and I want a cook-out just us, she’s going to get transferred to San Antonio tomorrow” Skylar said.

“Ah, I see alright next time.” Jacob said.

“Yeah, so now I am out here buying a grill because the old one is broken and doesn’t look washed” Skylar said.

“Say no more.” Jacob said.

“Okay see you later Pooh-Bear” Skylar said.

“Later Sky-Bear” Jacob said.

Skylar hang up the phone as she was looking at the grills.

“Bigger is always better.”

Skylar looked up and saw Avery.

“Hey Avery, are you getting supplies” Skylar said.

“Yeah, need some new tools for work” Avery said.

“I see well I am just buying a grill to grill” Skylar said.

“I can see that we have that one it’s the best” Avery said.

“Okay, thanks. Now I just need to find a worker to help me and get some propane for it” Skylar said.

“I can get it for you” Avery said.

“Thanks” Skylar said.

Avery help put the grill on the cart and showed her where the propane bottles were, and Skylar went to go pay for it and took it back out to the truck.

“I see you still drive your dad’s truck” Avery said.

“Yeah, thought of getting a new one but I love this truck” Skylar said.

“If you need help, I can set it up” Avery said.

“I really don’t want to impose” Skylar said.

“I got nothing to do” Avery said.

“Okay thanks Avery” Skylar said.

“No problem, I’ll be right behind you” Avery said.

Skylar nodded her head; she got in the truck and drove home she could see that Avery was driving behind her a few moments later Skylar pull up to the house and parked the truck and got down.

“We can set it up in the back” Skylar said.

“Okay” Avery said.

Skylar help Avery takes the grill in the back along with propane bottles, she then went inside and grab the streaks tenderizing them ready to go.

“What’s Avery Wilson doing here?” her mother asked.

“He helps me pick out a grill and is setting it up for us” Skylar said.

“That’s nice of him, you should invite him for dinner as a thank you” her mother said.

“What happened to just us two” Skylar said.

“One more person won’t hurt.” Her mother said.

“Okay, I will tell him” Skylar said.

Skylar went back out of the house just as Avery was finishing putting the propane on it.

“My mother asked if you like to stay for dinner” Skylar said.

“If I don’t impose” Avery said.

“Your fine” Skylar said.

“Sky-Bear!” Jacob called out from the house.

“Back here Pooh-Bear” Skylar said.

Jacob came in the back and saw Skylar along with Avery.

“Hey” Jacob said.

“Jacob, it’s good to see you” Avery said.

“Yeah, you too” Jacob said.

“What did you need?” Skylar said.

“Well, your mom invited me for dinner” Jacob said.

“Great now have to take out a few more steaks, start the grill” Skylar said.

Avery nodded his head; Skylar went back into the house and took out a few more steaks.

“You have any beer?” Jacob said.

“Nope, but I do have wine” Skylar said.

“Where’s the glasses?” Jacob said.

“Right above the dish washer” Skylar said.

Skylar took the bottle of red wine out and Jacob place the glasses down as she pours the drinks.

“Don’t forget the steaks” Skylar said.

Jacob grabs his glass and the steaks while she grabs two glasses and went back out of the house.

“Sorry we only had wine” Skylar said.

“Fine with me” Avery said.

The three, drank as they talked about what they have been doing the past year, Avery talked about school for his coaching and AA so he coaches the football team in the fall and when he is not coaching, he would work for his father. Jacob talking his time at law school to his job with the local firm. Skylar talking about her time in Italy the traveling and shoots as well as Art school to selling her first piece of art but never about New York.

“Okay hands down Skylar wins” Avery said.

“What? I think Jacob I mean law school in four years, that’s crazy” Skylar said.

“Your right that is crazy how did you do it” Avery said.

“Trust me I was sleep deprive most of the time all those extra classes and even through summer session” Jacob said.

“I would be too; I mean I barley passed for my AA” Avery said.

“Right” Skylar said.

“Well, the steaks are finished” Avery said.

“Finally, I’m starving” Jacob said.

They brought the food in, they all set up the table and Skylar took the side dishes out and went to get her mother from the room as they all sat down to eat dinner. An hour later Avery left, and Jacob helped Skylar with the dishes, and he too said his good night since, Skylar will be taking her mother to the hospital in the morning. Skylar went upstairs and got ready for bed as well changing into her PJ’s and got into bed once she laid down, she quickly fell asleep. The next morning Skylar woke up she got ready took a shower and put some clothes on and went downstairs where she made breakfast for her and her mother.

“Morning baby” her mother said.

“Morning, did you sleep well” Skylar said.

“Yes, much needed rest” her mother said.

“Good I made a healthy breakfast” Skylar said.

“Smells delicious” her mother said.

“This is what we ate during modeling days when we couldn’t have a big breakfast” Skylar said.

“What is it?” her mother said.

“Fried eggs, tomatoes, prosciutto, and avocado mashed with chili flakes with toast and some orange juice” Skylar said.

“Okay” her mother said.

Skylar place the sandwich in front of her with some orange juice, she made herself one and stood in front of her mother as she took a bite.

“Wow, this is good” her mother said.

“Yup I know a lot of recipes that will help you after surgery” Skylar said.

“Thank you, baby” her mother said.

After breakfast, Skylar cleaned up and grab her mother’s luggage and place them in the truck and she helped her mother inside as well and they were off to the hospital.

“Probably have to get a better ride so it’ll be easy for you to get in” Skylar said.

“What about a van, you know those little ones” her mother said.

“What about a Chevy Equinox, not to big not to small. It’ll be a right fit for us” Skylar said.

“It would be nice, but I don’t know what that is” her mother said.

“Mom there is latterly one in front of us” Skylar said.

Her mother looked at the Equinox that was in front of them, Skylar drove pass it as her mother looked at it.

“That is a beautiful ride” her mother said.

“Told you so” Skylar said.

Her mother smile at her, Skylar parked in the hospital parking lot and got down the truck grab her mother’s luggage and then went to help her mother as well, they went into the hospital they had to wait for Dr. Harvey.

“Good morning ladies” Dr. Harvey said.

“Morning” Skylar said.

“Good Morning, Dr. Harvey” her mother said.

“The nurse will take you to the waiting room, San Antonio called they want us to the test done here and sent over to them quick and they will be decided” Dr. Harvey said.

“And if they say it’s not that day?” Skylar said.

“Then possible they will give a day; it all depends on if they are business or not” Dr. Harvey said.

“But she can still check in right?” Skylar said.

“Yes, she will, and we will know by this evening if they are going to transfer her” Dr. Harvey said.

“Okay” Skylar said.

“The nurse will come and get you, and she will be taking the blood from you” Dr. Harvey said.

Skylar nodded her head, as the doctor left.

“More blood test” her mother said.

“Yeah, just hope all goes well” Skylar said.

“It will baby” her mother said.

“Mr. Williams” a nurse came by.

“Here” Skylar said.

Skylar stood up and help her mother.

“Do you need a wheelchair” the nurse asked.

“No thank you dear” her mother said.

“Okay, follow me” the nurse said.

Skylar grabbed her mother’s luggage and walked with her mother through down the hallway then into the elevator to the fifth floor then she was place in one of the rooms.

“Have a seat” the nurse said.

Her mother sat on the bed and Skylar took a seat.

“I will be back in a moment” the nurse said.

“Okay” her mother said.

The nurse smiled and went out of the room, Skylar lean back in the chair.

“You know you can go do something” her mother said.

“I’ll leave after taking the blood and get us something to eat” Skylar said.

“Okay, but didn’t you hate needles” her mother said.

“As long as it isn’t me, I should be good” Skylar said.

“Okay” her mother said.

The nurse came back into the room, she began getting the needles and tub ready Skylar looked away then she felt a hand on hers she looked down and saw her mother’s hand, she looked at her and smiled she did the same to her as well. A few moments later, the nurse was finished.

“Okay all done” the nurse said.

“Thank you” her mother said.

The nurse smiled and went out of the room, Skylar looked at her mother.

“What do you want to eat?” Skylar asked.

“Chicken salad and some French bread” her mother said.

“Okay, I will be back” Skylar said.

Skylar kissed her mother’s hand and went out of the room, down the elevator and she made her way out of the hospital where she went to the truck. An hour later Skylar was driving a Chevy Equinox as she smiled, her mother would freak if she saw it, she looked at the food beside her and went back to her driving as she was pulling up to the hospital. Skylar parked the ride and grab the food and got off the car and walked back towards the hospital after awhile Skylar made it back to her mother’s room, she was watching tv.

“Mom” Skylar said.

Her mother looked at her and smiled.

“Have you ever thought of taking up a hobby?” Skylar said.

“I do miss going back to gardening” her mother said.

“Well, when you’re feeling better me and you, and I can teach you how to paint” Skylar said.

“Your father was the artist not me, but I can give it a try” her mother said.

“I got us two chicken salad with French bread and pink lemonade as for dessert strawberry swirled cheesecake” Skylar said.

“Oh, I can’t wait” her mother said.

Skylar set up the small pull-out table for her and place the food down in front of her and gave her the forks for her to use and Skylar place her food on the other strolling table they both eat and watched tv.

“What about knitting?” Skylar said.

“Nah, tried once when you were a baby, and it was just making me frustrated” her mother said.

“Okay, what about baking” Skylar said.

“In this Texas heat” her mother said.

“Your right what about, scrapbook?” Skylar said.

Skylar ate some food as her mother was chewing hers and making a thinking face.

“Nah, not that creative” her mother said.

“Well, what do you like?” Skylar said.

“You and food” her mother said.

“Same here mom” Skylar said.

Her mother smiled at her and Skylar did the same thing.

“Oh, what about tutoring” Skylar said.

“Tutor what?” her mother said.

“Gardening give out tips and tricks you do” Skylar said.

“Where in the hell are we going to put that up at?” her mother said.

“We do have a big space on the other side of the house, I can call Avery’s dad and see if we can build a greenhouse” Skylar said.

“I was talking about parking” her mother said.

“I can also ask Mr. Ackerman if we can take the small fence down so the people can go out that way” Skylar said.

“Seems like a lot of work” her mother said.

“I just want you to move around more, you been cooped up in the house since I came back” Skylar said.

“Sorry baby it’s just these chemo takes a lot out of me most days sometimes I wont even get out of bed” her mother said.

“I know, but it’s much different then I remembered” Skylar said.

“Well baby I was just hiding the pain for you then” her mother said.

Skylar had tears in her eyes as she grabs her hand.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” Skylar said.

“You were just a kid Skylar, and I was your goddess in your eyes a true superhero” her mother said.

“You’ll always going to be a goddess to me mom in pain or not” Skylar said.

“I know baby but now you know” her mother said.

“Thanks for telling me mom. Now about that gardening tips class” Skylar said.

“I’ll think about it” her mother said.

Skylar nodded her head, and they went back to watching tv by evening came Dr. Harvey came back and told her that she will be catching the last helicopter out to San Antonio and they will be doing the surgery there. Skylar ate with her mom before she was taken up to the roof where the helicopter pad was at, since Skylar could not go out to the roof, she just watched from the doorway as she was taken into the helicopter and watched it take off. Skylar then went on home; her bags were already pack and ready to go when Skylar was pulling up to her house when she got a text message from Jacob to be ready by six and Skylar text back to him saying they can take her ride. Skylar then went inside the house went up to her room got dressed for bed and set her timer on the clock and went to sleep.
