“Wow, Sky these are amazing” Jacob said.

“You think they will like it?” Skylar said.

“f**k yeah” Jacob said.

Skylar was driving they took the US. 281 S, road was the fastest route and, on the way, back they would take the longer way home so they can enjoy the site on the way home.

“I should’ve just tried in Austin or around home” Skylar said.

“No way, you are way too small for that you need big cities” Jacob said.

“I don’t belong in the city, I seen the cities now I just want to stay in a small place” Skylar said.

“Well, if you wanted a small place you could’ve moved to some where smaller then Marble Falls” Jacob said.

“No Marble Falls is just right for me; I think it’s small” Skylar said.

“Well small towns weren’t meant for you” Jacob said.

“And how do you know that small towns weren’t meant for me?” Skylar said.

“Because have you come back home in the five years?” Jacob said.

“I was busy” Skylar said.

“No, something happened and now you hate big cities” Jacob said.

“Nothing happened” Skylar said.

“Come on Sky, I known you since we we’re kids. Those five years didn’t change you still make that cringe with your nose when you lie” Jacob said.

“It’s complicated” Skylar said.

“Complicated as in you don’t want to talk about it” Jacob said.

“Complicated as in I ran, and if I stayed, I wouldn’t have made it” Skylar said.

“You are strong Skylar Williams; you just need to give yourself a chance” Jacob said.

Skylar pulled of to the side of the road, Jacob looked at her.

“For the first time in my life, I fell in love with someone.” Skylar said.

“You want to talk about it?” Jacob said.

“Someday” Skylar said.

“Okay” Jacob said.

Skylar smiled and wiped her eyes and started up the car again and began driving, Jacob then began cheering Skylar back up as they played music and sang along to them about fifteen minutes later, they saw the buildings of San Antonio.

“You get us checked in, and I can take a cab to the work building” Jacob said.

“Okay, I will text you the room number. I am going to see my mom after I settle in” Skylar said.

“I’ll just meet you there with dinner” Jacob said.

“Sound’s good” Skylar said.

They drove to a fancy hotel that was not too far from the city hospital, Jacob took his briefcase and hail for a cab and went to where the law firm that need help, Skyler gave her keys to the valet and the bell hop boy came and took her bags. She went to the front desk and asked for the penthouse room, since it had two rooms for herself and Jacob, she then put their bags in the living room only since she would give him the choice of picking the room he wanted and grab her keys a purse making her way back out of the hotel. Skylar parked her car in the hospital parking lot going towards the front desk where she saw a nurse typing away on the computer.

“Hello” Skylar said.

“How may I help you?” the nurse said.

“Yes, a Lilly Williams” Skylar said.

“One moment” the nurse said.

Skylar waited while the nurse started typing on her computer after a while she looked back up at Skylar.

“She is in room 508, on the fifth floor. The elevator is down the hall that way, you’ll see the sign” the nurse said.

“Thank you” Skylar said.

Skylar walked where the nurse pointed out and found the elevator and press the fifth floor, she steps out of the elevator and looked at the sign of which way room 508 was at, when she found it, she started walking to her left. Skylar found the room and knocked on the door and peeked inside she saw her mother watching tv but looked away and looked towards Skylar.

“Hi momma” Skylar said.

“Hey baby, did you just come?” her mother asked.

“No, drop my things off and checked into the hotel first” Skylar said.

“And Jacob?” her mother asked.

“Went straight to work but he said he will be here this evening to see you” Skylar said.

“What about you, you should be getting ready for the interview with the gallery” her mother said.

“Don’t worry about it, I am fully prepared” Skylar said.

“Did you bring your paintings?” her mother asked.

“No but I will tomorrow when I stop by so I can tell you all about the interview” Skylar said.

“Will I see you have a sketch pad; I am assuming you are going to draw and hang out with me?” her mother asked.

“Yes, but first what did the doctors say?” Skylar asked.

“That if my blood comes back fine, I can have the surgery sooner rather than on Monday” her mother said.

“That’s good” Skylar said.

“How was the drive?” her mother asked.

“Good we took the short route, and we will take the longer one back so we can sight see” Skylar said.

“I may have to stay in the hospital till recover time so you would have to go on back before me” her mother said.

“I know, I still have work to do next week but I will come back and pick you up” Skylar said.

“In your father’s truck? Can it even make it?” her mother said.

“No, we used my ride coming” Skylar smiled at her mother.

“You didn’t” her mother said.

Skylar took her phone out and showed her the picture at the dealer ship where she took a picture of herself with the Equinox that she bought.

“I love it, I can’t wait to sit passenger side” her mother said.

“You would love the inside of the car and the new car smell” Skylar said.

“It is a big responsibility owning your own car” her mother said.

“I know mom, it’s my first time owning something” Skylar said.

Her mother smiled at her, they both went into their own worlds as her mother watched tv and she began drawing on her pad and peeking at her mother from time to time, Skylar was drawing her mother instead of her laying on the bed she made her look like she was laying on a chair. A few hours go by and there is a knock on the door.

“Hello” Jacob says.

“Jacob” her mother said.

“I brought food; I know you wouldn’t want the hospital food” Jacob said.

“You’re a blessing” her mother said.

Jacob places the food and drinks down and passing it to Lilly then to Skylar.

“These smells good” Skylar said.

They ate and talked about what they did for the day soon there was another knock on the door and a doctor came in.

“Good Evening” the doctor said.

“My daughter Skylar and her friend Jacob” Lilly said.

“Nice to meet you both I am Dr. Smith” Dr. Smith said.

“Okay Mrs. Williams, your test results came back clean, and I schedule your surgery, let’s see you ate about what time?” Dr. Smith said.

“Around five” Lilly said.

“So, you would need to wait 12 hours so your system can be clean, I will schedule it for eight am tomorrow morning” Dr. Smith said.

“How long will the surgery last?” Skylar asked.

“I would say three to two hours maybe longer we want to make sure we got all of them out before we can close her up” Dr. Smith said.

“Okay” Skylar said.

“And the recovery time?” Jacob asked.

“One or two weeks, if you take walks however no heavy lifting” Dr. Smith said.

“Sorry they do this a lot” Lilly said.

“It’s fine, I will see you in the morning if there are any more questions” Dr. Smith said.

“No, thank you Doctor” Skylar said.

The doctor nodded his head and left; Skylar sat back down.

“I have my interview at eight” Skylar said.

“I will be here Sky, and keep you updated” Jacob said.

“Okay” Skylar said.

“You two should get going, visiting hours are almost over” her mother said.

“Okay, good night Mrs. Williams” Jacob said.

“Night mom, I will see you before you go into surgery” Skylar said.

“Okay kiddo” her mother said.

Skylar kissed her head and went out with Jacob back to where she parked the car at, they made it to the hotel and went up to their rooms.

“I just left our luggage here and thought you’d want the first pick” Skylar said.

“I will take that side” Jacob said.

“Okay, night Jacob” Skylar said.

“Night” Jacob said.

They both went to their rooms, Skylar took a shower and put her PJs on brush her teeth and went into bed and fell asleep. The next morning Skylar woke up put on her black skirt with white blouse and beige slacks with some black pumps, she also put on some make-up and then fixed her hair to some curls and made then all go on one side. Skylar put on her diamond earrings as she went out of the room and saw Jacob come out with jeans and white shirt.

“You look nice” Jacob said.

“Do I look interview ready?” Skylar asked.

“You look like you’re going to the office, and I would definitely go with red lipstick instead of pink” Jacob said.

“You sure?” Skylar asked.

“Yes” Jacob said.

Skylar went back to her bathroom and wipe the pink off and put on the red lipstick on and went back out of the room to Jacob.

“Better” Skylar said.

“Much, now let’s go” Jacob said.

“Okay” Skylar said.

It was six am, so they made it to the hospital and went inside Skylar stayed for a bit talking with her mother and then she left for the interview at the gallery, she grabs her portfolio and went inside the place, she looked around at all the art that was inside.

“Hello, may I help you?” a woman said to her.

“Yes, I have an appointment. I am Skylar Williams” Skylar said.

“One moment please” the woman said.

Skylar looked around the at the paintings and sculptures as well as some welding, Skylar can hear steps coming towards her, she turns seeing a woman coming back with a man.

“Hello, you must be Skylar Williams. I am Ethan Becker” Mr. Becker said.

“Nice to meet you” Skylar said.

“Have we met before?” Mr. Becker asked.

“I don’t think so” Skylar said.

“Okay, follow me” Mr. Becker said.

Skylar nodded her head and followed him to the back where his office was at, he pointed to a chair for her, and Skylar sat down.

“Miss June, that’s where I see you before” Mr. Becker said.

“Yeah, once upon a time” Skylar said.

“Have you done artwork before?” Mr. Becker asked.

“Yes, mostly in Italy. These are what I sold over there” Skylar said.

She pulled out photos of her work and gave it to him.

“Wow” Mr. Becker said.

He was looking through the photos.

“These are what I have now” Skylar said.

Skylar took out more photos from the portfolio in front of him.

“Do you have these work with you know?” Mr. Becker said.

“I do in my ride the rest are back home” Skylar said.

“Do you mind if we can take a look?” Mr. Becker asked.

“Sure” Skylar said.

They both got up from their seats, Ethan called to his assistant to follow them and they made their way out of the building to where Skylar parked her ride opening the back and took one of them out.

“This is really great, and painting is all you do?” Mr. Becker asked.

“No, I have pictures of my welding, pottery, and heat glass work” Skylar said.

“I would like to take a look; Shirley brings in the painting” Mr. Becker said.

Ethan took one of the painting and Skylar took one as well as they went back into the gallery, where they place the painting in the office in a row and Ethan was looking through them.

“It holds so much pain” Mr. Becker said.

“Yeah, I paint what I feel or what I see” Skylar said.

“This one though, looks like heart crushing” Mr. Becker said.

Skylar looked at the last painting she had a moment to herself and she felt tears prick her eyes and cleared her throat and smiled a bit.

“It’s like I can see the heartbreak on her face” Mr. Becker said.

“Yeah, I painted that before leaving for back home” Skylar said.

“Well, I would like to do business with you” Mr. Becker said.

“Really? Oh, I also do photograph as well but moving back home I haven’t developed my pictures yet” Skylar said.

“Well for now, let’s sell these first and see how it goes” Mr. Becker said.

“Okay, I am good with that” Skylar said.

“Alright let’s get the paper works” Mr. Becker said.

“If you don’t mind, can I have my lawyer look over it” Skylar said.

“Sure, we can leave the painting’s in here for now and when you bring the contract back, I can get started on putting your work out there. The store will be closed tomorrow so we can meet again on Monday” Mr. Becker said.

“That’s fine with me” Skylar said.

“Okay, until then nice meeting you Skylar” Mr. Becker said.

“You as well Mr. Becker” Skylar said.

“Ethan please” Ethan said.

“Okay. Ethan” Skylar said.

Skylar stood up and shook his hands and went out of the gallery she looked at her watch it was about nine so she had time still that her mother would not be out of surgery yet. Skylar drove back to the hospital as she text Jacob that she was on her way and that she was finished with the interview and if he could look over a contract for her. Skylar parked the car, and grab her purse putting the contract inside of there and went towards the hospital she made it to the front desk.

“Hello, a has Lilly Williams come out of surgery yet” Skylar said.

“One moment” the nurse said.

The nurse type on her computer and a few moments later she looked up.

“She’s still in surgery, that would be in the back of the hospital the waiting room, is through those double doors all the way down the hall you’re going to take a right and go down the hall till you see double door again, go about a yard down and it will be on your left” the nurse said.

“Thank you” Skylar said.

The nurse smiled, Skylar started walking to where the nurse said to go and she made their in ten minuets she saw Jacob sitting there with his phone, she chuckled.

“Pooh-bear” Skylar said.

“Hey, how did it go” Jacob said.

“If you must know” Skylar said.

She threw the contract in his lap.

“Work” Jacob said and rolled his eyes.

“Well as my personal lawyer you’re going to be busy” Skylar said.

“I’m touch” Jacob said holding his heart.

“Yeah, yeah just tell me if the deal’s good” Skylar said.

“Didn’t you do this before?” Jacob said.

“Yeah, and I study for a week before I knew that they almost rip me off and lucky I was close friends with a model who was studying law and got me a better deal, and now I have you to do it for me because I don’t want to study for a week again” Skylar said.

“Boohoo my poor Sky-Bear” Jacob said.

“I know, please take the pain away” Skylar giggled.

“How can I say no to that face” Jacob said.

Skylar smiled and leaned her head on Jacob as he began, looking through the contract for her a few moments later he places it down.

“So, they want thirty percent on all your work’s, they also want duplicates in case a costumer would see your past work and they can have a spare” Jacob said.

“I don’t do duplicates on paintings or welding the other’s yes but not the other two” Skylar said.

“Okay we can mark that off because it says for all the works, we can work around that and add the prices more to it” Jacob said.

“Good what else?” Skylar asked.

“Let’s see, they will give you a month for welding, a week for painting, three for potter and a week for photographs” Jacob said.

“Put two months for Welding it takes longer, and pottery you would need a moth as well and what about heat glass” Skylar said.

“There’s none” Jacob said.

“That has to be added and takes about a few days to do” Skylar said.

“Okay, I brought an extra suit you know the Armin” Jacob said.

“We can shop tomorrow for your shoes” Skylar said happily.

“Of course, now tell me was he sexy?” Jacob said.

“Yeah, I think he swings your way. Didn’t even look at me” Skylar said.

“Ohh, I better look fresh” Jacob said.

“I will make you look fresh” Skylar said.

“Darling please who said to go with the red lipstick” Jacob said.

“You” Skylar said rolling her eyes.

“No man can resist red lips” Jacob said.

“And what if he did?” Skylar said.

“Then we will find out on Monday” Jacob said.

“Indeed, we shall” Skylar said.

They heard a sliding door, they both looked up and saw the Dr. Smith come out, Skylar stood up and made her way towards him.

“The surgery went fine we took it all out, now we just have to keep an eye on her these next few days and her doctor will also need to do a check up within a month” Dr. Smith said.

“Thank you, Dr. Smith” Skylar said.

“She is going to the ICU for now and tomorrow we will move her back to her room” Dr. Smith said.

“Thank you” Jacob said.

Skylar went with Jacob to the ICU room, they could not go in, so she looked at her mother from the window a nurse was coming out of the room.

“How long will she be asleep?” Skylar asked.

“Not until tomorrow morning” the nurse said.

“Thank you” Skylar said.

Skylar stayed for a little while later and they left to go get something to eat and had back to the hotel.
