Chapter Nineteen

1833 Words
Renesmee’s P.O.V Two days had passed since I yearned for an abortion, and it is now Monday. Grandpa convinced me to keep the baby. He said the baby was already too far along. Besides, I have grown to love this baby now, ever since I saw my baby during the ultrasound. I’m in my second trimester at fourteen weeks but have been four weeks pregnant. My grandpa entered the room while I was still in bed. He asked, “Hey, how are you feeling?” “Good, I guess I kind of got morning sickness and fatigue symptoms, but that’s it,” I responded. “It’ll become familiar to you in a few days.” I nodded and rubbed my stomach. Then I looked at grandpa and asked, “Hey, grandpa?” Grandpa examined the paperwork and inquired, “Yes?” “Do you know how big I will get?” I asked. “Given your small stature, you might weigh a couple of pounds.” “Am I going to be huge?” “Yes, because of the baby’s current growth.” I nodded my head. “You’re being successful, though. “Your baby is growing fast,” Grandpa said. “You’ll give birth in two to three months.” “Okay, thanks,” I said. A stabbing sensation overwhelmed me as I attempted to stand. It caused grandpa to spin around with anxiety and to walk over to me. “I’m okay. No problem. My side hurts a bit, that’s all,” I explained. “Are you sure?” Grandpa asked. “Yeah, it’s the baby growing.” I rose from the bed, stretched my limbs, and approached the door. I walked into the living room and sank into the comfortable couch. The voices echoed up from downstairs, and one sounded familiar to me. The footsteps echoed through the house, causing me to turn my head, and my eyes met Jacob’s. My eyes widened, and I grabbed a blanket next to me and put it on me to cover my baby bump. Jacob’s footsteps echoed in the room as he circled the couch and reached my side. Jacob’s eyes locked with mine, and a small smile curled on his lips. He then looked down at the blanket covering my stomach. His eyebrows furrowed with concern. “How are you?” Jacob greeted me. “I’m fine. Why wouldn’t I be?” I responded. Jacob nodded, his eyebrows furrowed in disbelief. Does he know? Did my family or someone else tell him? I held Jacob’s hand, feeling its electric sensation. “I’m okay,” I reassured him. Jacob stooped and moved his other hand to my face. He rubbed his thumb against my cheek, and I leaned my face into his hand, enjoying the feeling. “I know,” he said. I widened my eyes and asked, “You do?” Jacob nodded. Jacob then scrutinized me from head to toe, his face filled with concern. “You look terrible. Are you sure you’re fine?” he asked. “Yes, I’m fine,” I responded. Jacob huffed and said, “No, Nessie, you’re not. I’ve seen this happen with Bella before.” “This is different, though. My grandpa said I was doing better than Bella when she had me. It could be because I’m a half-vampire.” Jacob nodded again and asked, “Where were you during this pregnancy?” “Well, I’m four weeks pregnant. I’m fourteen weeks from where I am with the baby growing. This means I have started the second trimester,” I responded. Jacob raised his eyebrows in surprise. He asked, “Wow, are you halfway done?” “Yeah, but I still have the third trimester,” I responded. Jacob nodded and asked, “Can I see?” “See what?” Jacob’s gaze lingered on my stomach, concealed beneath the cozy blanket. “Oh, okay,” I said. I used my free hand to remove the blanket, stretching out. Sitting on the couch, Jacob looked at my stomach. Lifting my shirt, I revealed it to him. He gazed at me, looking horrified. “It looks bad,” he commented. “I know, but it’s going to be worth it,” I reassured him. Jacob nodded, touched my stomach, and rubbed it without hesitation. As he did that, I felt a surge of tingling sparks run through my body. I liked the feeling, and it lessened my stomach pain. I felt a kick, and Jacob’s eyes widened in response. “You feel that?” I asked. “Yeah,” Jacob responded with a grin. “Isn’t it amazing?” Jacob smiled and agreed, “Yes, she is amazing.” Looking at Jacob, I asked with curiosity, “How can you tell it’s a girl?” “Lucky guess.” I smiled. “She’s like you. I can feel it,” Jacob responded. I grinned, squeezing Jacob’s hand on my belly. “It’s a miracle,” I exclaimed. Jacob smiled and answered, “Indeed it is.” I wanted to ask him a question. I would love to ask him if we ever got together. “Hey Jacob, mind if I ask you something?” I inquired. With a glance, Jacob asked me, “What’s up?” “I wondered if you aspired to be the baby’s father?” I asked. Jacob’s eyes widened, and then a flicker of uncertainty crossed his face. “We’ll overcome this and be together. You’ll be the baby’s stepfather,” I assured him. Jacob squeezed my hand and sighed. He said, “I don’t know.” I know how Jacob feels about me. He clarified his intentions, telling me he wanted me to be his. Although Jacob hasn’t said the words, I can feel his love for me. There’s something inexplicable about the way he makes me feel. Our first kiss was unlike any other. It was much better than Mason’s. Anyway, I know he would love this child as much as me. It’s got to be our connection, of course. How can it not? He wouldn’t have touched my stomach if he hadn’t. “I need your support, Jacob. It’s just you and me. I can’t handle this by myself. You have a bond with my child and me. You touched my stomach with purpose,” I expressed. Jacob’s silence made me feel more confident. I squeezed his hand and said, “Jacob...” “I care about you, but I’m not the baby’s father. Do you think the baby should know its real father?” Jacob wondered aloud. “Jacob, it doesn’t matter. You can be her father either way. She won’t even know.” “What if she finds out when she’s older?” “She won’t, and even if she did, we would deal with it later.” Jacob nodded. “Hum...” he said. “Can you please be her stepfather?” I pleaded. Jacob sighed and said, “Sure, why not?” My face lit up with joy. I hugged Jacob. “Thanks, Jacob!” I exclaimed. My mom walked in. We pulled away. She asked, “What’s with the excitement?” “We have news,” I responded. “What is it?” Dad also walked in and wrapped an arm around Mom. “Hey honey, our daughter’s got news,” Mom said. Dad looked at us with curious eyes. He asked, “What is it?” “Come over and sit down,” I proposed, “and we’ll fill you in.” They walked over to a two-person seat and sat down. Mom asked, “So, are you going to tell us?” “Okay, this might sound baffling. But I asked Jacob if he aspired to be the baby’s stepfather when she grew up,” I responded. My mom and dad exchanged a surprised glance as they looked at me. Jacob whispered, “I warned you it could be a terrible idea.” “Jacob, they haven’t even spoken yet,” I responded. We looked back at them when they spoke. “Renesmee, we’re unsure if this is a good idea since you’re not together,” Mom advised. “If we join forces soon, she’ll have a father,” I reassured her. “I agree with your mother. I’m unsure about this,” Dad remarked. “It’ll be fine. Jacob would make a great dad. I’m certain,” I reassured him. Jacob’s eyebrows rose when he looked at me. He asked, “Do you think I would be a successful father?” “Yeah, I know you would. You took excellent care to protect me when I was younger,” I responded. “I know, but that was different.” “Why not consider it? I’m unsure if you and Jacob can care for the baby together,” Mom suggested. “Sure, we’ll consider it,” I agreed. “Okay, good.” Mom and dad got up, leaving us alone in the living room. “What do you want to do now?” Jacob inquired. “I’m not sure. What do you feel like doing?” I inquired. “We could go somewhere. Want to go to the beach?” “Okay.” I stood up and felt a sharp pain in my abdomen. It made me bend over and groan. Jacob turned and gave me a concerned look. He asked, “Are you okay?” Jacob wrapped his arms around me, rubbing my back. “Yeah, I think so,” I responded. “Are you sure? I can go get Carlisle.” Jacob asked. “Yeah, I’m fine. It’s the symptoms of pregnancy.” “Is it the baby?” I nodded. Jacob offered, “Should I check for painkillers?” “Sure,” I responded. Jacob left the living room, and I heard his steps vanish. A sharp pain hit my abdomen, and I yelled. Jacob rushed in with grandpa, giving me painkillers and water. “Take these,” he instructed. Swallowing the pills, I looked at grandpa, concern clear. “Grandpa, what’s going on?” “I have abdominal pain. It will occur four times every day,” Grandpa responded. “Yeah, but it comes way too often, even when I get up.” “Well, that’s because you started a new trimester. So it will slow down and stop in a couple of weeks.” “Are there ways to relieve temporary pain right now?” “Well, lie down and relax. That would help. Another idea is a bubble bath in hot water.” “Okay,” Once grandpa departed, I laid down on the couch. “Nessie, let’s hang out here and watch a movie,” Jacob suggested. I nodded and said, “Okay.” I got up so Jacob could sit beside me. I laid my head on his chest, and Jacob switched the T.V. on. We spent the rest of the night together.
