Chapter Seventeen

Renesmee’s P.O.V Jacob carried me to my bedroom as we arrived home, cradling me in his arms. He placed me on the soft bed and tucked the surrounding blankets. Jacob then leaned down to kiss me on the head, and before Jacob left my bedroom, I grabbed his arm. He glanced at me, his expression questioning. “Jake,” I said. “Yeah,” Jacob said. “Will you stay with me?” “Huh... I don’t know.” “Please, no one’s home, and I don’t like to be alone; besides, I’m freezing, so...” Jacob sighed and said, “Okay.” Jacob climbed into bed, and I could feel the warmth of his body as he curled up next to me under the covers. I surprised him by snuggling up to him, resting my head on his chest, and hearing the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. Hesitating for a second, he embraced me. “I’m sorry I didn’t believe you,” I admitted. “It’s okay, Nessie. Don’t worry; it’s not a big deal,” Jacob reassured her. “Really?” “Yeah, it’s fine. I knew you wouldn’t have believed me anyway because you love Mason.” I met Jacob’s gaze with a guilty expression. I got off his chest and gazed down at him. “Jacob, I have to tell you something, but you cannot tell anyone, not even my parents,” I said. “Why? What did you do?” Jacob asked. “It’s something bad.” “How bad?” “I can’t quite say it, but you’ll think I’m foolish once I tell you.” “No, I won’t.” “Believe me, you won’t want to see me again.” “Fine, tell me, I won’t. But I promise I will go along with whatever you say.” “Okay, hum.” As I was about to speak, a sharp kick struck my stomach, different from previous experiences. I grabbed my stomach, and Jacob looked at me with unease. “Jacob, can you spare a moment?” I inquired. Jacob nodded, his lips pressed together in a tight line. I leaped out of bed, feeling the cold floor beneath my feet, and went to the bathroom. I felt nauseous and shut the door. I sprinted to the toilet and expelled the contents of my stomach. As I emptied my stomach, my mind raced with thoughts about what was happening to my body. Could I indeed be pregnant? I couldn’t be. I’m too young to be pregnant. After a minute, I got up and went to brush my teeth. I then looked in the mirror and saw my reflection staring back at me. I looked healthy, with no signs of illness. I then looked at my shirt and lifted it to look at my stomach. My mouth gasped as I realized I had grown in size. Can one grow this much overnight? A minute later, I heard someone knock on my door. Jacob asked, “Are you okay, Ness?” “Yeah, I’m fine.” “Need me to grab anything?” “No, I’m fine.” “Alright, can you open the door for me, though? I want to see you.” “Okay.” I placed my shirt back down. Then I opened the door. When I opened the door, Jacob stood right before me. Jacob examined me, and I walked past him to sit on my bed. I asked him, “What?” “Nothing. You look different since the last time I saw you. You don’t look sick, though. Were you throwing up in there?” Jacob responded. “How different?” “Your skin seems lighter.” I nodded and lied, “Yeah, that’s it.” Jacob smiled and said, “I like it. It makes you look more beautiful.” Jacob walked towards me. I heard my heart pounding. I touched his chest and said, “Stop.” “It’s true,” Jacob said. I changed the subject and asked, “What did you need to tell me?” “It’s nothing. Don’t worry about it.” Jacob responded. “Okay.” When I lay down, I felt Jacob’s presence beside me, his arms wrapped around me. I then thought about my stomach. What should I do if he touches my stomach and feels something? He could find out. I shake it off and close my eyes to sleep. The next day, I looked at myself in the bathroom mirror again. The baby’s growth made me feel like a small, delicate mushroom expanding. As I draped my robe around me, a wave of dizziness washed over me, making it difficult to move to the door. I then lost my balance, teetering on the edge of a fall before regaining my composure. Someone grabbed me from behind to hold me up. I stood up, turned around, and touched a hard chest. When I glanced up, I recognized Jacob. “Nessie, can you hear me? I’m here,” Jacob said. I could see again, and I glanced at Jacob. “I felt dizzy for a moment,” I explained. “Need me to grab you anything?” “No, I’m fine. I need air.” “Okay.” Jacob looked at me, anxious, as I walked past him and headed out the door. As I stepped outside, I hungered for blood instead of food. I couldn’t determine if my craving for blood was my or a result of pregnancy. I ran through the woods at vampire-like speed. Soon enough, I heard something. As usual, I concealed myself. Then, when I spotted a deer approaching, I moved behind a tree and lunged for it, drinking its blood. After I finished eating, I went into the house. I saw Jacob walking down the hall. He looked at me and seemed amused. He asked me, “Did you enjoy your food?” “Yeah. How do you know?” “I saw you through the window.” I nodded. “Do you want to do something today? We can go to the beach or...” Jacob suggested. “We can go to the beach,” I responded. “Go get dressed. I’ll come back to pick you up.” “Okay.” Jacob left, and I hurried into my bedroom as a painful kick hit my stomach once more. I moved my hand to my stomach, and I gasped as I felt pain again. I felt another kick, and I groaned in pain. s**t, this hurts so bad. I held myself tomorrow before the pain went away, and I walked to my closet to pick something to wear. After I got dressed, I looked at myself in a bikini. I did not think he would notice. I grabbed my cover-up, slipped it on, and left my bedroom. While doing so, a knock on my door caught my attention. I opened it to see Jacob. “That was fast,” I said. “I didn’t want to leave you alone for long,” Jacob explained. I rolled my eyes and said, “Okay, well, let’s go.” We saw his gleaming motorcycle parked beside the house as we stepped out the door. I stopped for a second. Now that I was pregnant, I felt terrified about riding one. Imagine if something happened, and we had an accident. Jacob looked at me with concern and asked, “Are you okay?” I looked at him, snapping out of it, and smiled. “Yeah, I’m fine. Let’s go.” I responded. I walked over to the motorcycle, and Jacob followed me. He handed me a helmet, and I put it on. He did the same, getting on the bike, and I joined him. I then hesitated to put my arms around him. “Hold on tight,” Jacob said. As I took a deep breath, I felt the warmth of his body as I wrapped my arms around him from behind. Jacob tensed up from my touch, and I laid my head on his back. He started the motorcycle with a quick throttle twist, and we sped up onto the road. At the beach, we spotted a few members of the pack. With a sigh, I dismounted and removed my helmet, feeling the weight lift from my head. Jacob got off, taking off his, and I set the helmet down next to his helmet. He then surprised me by taking my hand in his. I felt that electrifying feeling again, and I looked up at him, and he smiled that beautiful smile. “Let’s go,” Jacob said, taking my hand. We went toward the sandy shore, found a spot away from the pack, and stored our belongings. It seemed he yearned to be alone with me. I removed my shirt and pants and set them on the floor, leaving me in my white two-piece swimsuit. I glanced at Jacob. His eyes showed his hunger as he examined every part of me. I walked over to my sunscreen bag, grabbed it, squirted some on my hand, and applied it to my skin. As I rubbed it on my skin, Jacob approached me. He whispered, “Do you need a hand?” I nodded without hesitation, and Jacob took the sunscreen from me. He squeezed sunscreen onto his hand and applied it to my neck and back. His touch made me tense up, and I could feel a shiver run down my spine. The feeling of his hands on my skin was satisfying. Tilting my head back, I savored the sensation and moaned with glee. I could sense a smirk on Jacob’s face. With a smirk, Jacob asked, “Do you like it?” I nodded, and Jacob asked me to turn around. I lay down, and he sat on his knees, grabbed more sunscreen, and started applying it to my legs. As if on cue, that incredible feeling surged through me again. As Jacob rubbed sunscreen on my legs, I couldn’t help but hiss in response to his touch. His fingers lingered on my inner thighs, making the sensation even more intense. When Jacob finished, he stood up, prompting me to sit and turn to look at him. “Do you want me to do you?” I asked. “Hum...sure,” Jacob responded. I grabbed the sunscreen as Jacob removed his shirt and threw it on the floor. I looked at his body, and my mouth watered at the sight of his chiseled eight-pack abs. He had worked out more since the last time I saw him. Jacob caught me glancing at him. He smirked, asking, “You like what you see?” I nodded and looked away, blushing. Jacob chuckled and sat down in front of me. I squirted the sunscreen on my hand and applied it to his chest. As I laid my hand on his chest, I could feel the sudden tension in his body, and it made me smile to see his response to my touch. After putting sunscreen on him, I laid back on the blanket. He sat down next to me, but he grabbed a bottle of water and, out of nowhere, opened it and poured water on me. I squealed and looked up at him in shock. He was now laughing. Oh, hell no. He didn’t pour cold water all over me. “Oh no, you didn’t,” I said. Jacob’s laughter echoed as he sprinted from me, heading towards the water. I went further into the water, but I couldn’t find Jacob. I looked around for him, and I yelled, “Jacob!” I panicked when I didn’t get a response. But then, someone hugged me and lifted me. I screamed, “Let me go!” “Nope,” Jacob said. “Please, Jake!” “If you don’t put me down, I’m serious...” “You what?” “I’ll hum. I’ll tell your father what you’ve been doing instead of patrolling.” “No, you wouldn’t.” “Oh yes, I would.” “Fine.” Jacob emerged from the water, soaked, and laid me on the warm sand. “I thought so,” I said, hands on my hips. Jacob sat beside me, rolling his eyes. I ignored him, avoiding eye contact. Jacob broke the silence, “Nessie.” I didn’t speak, my silence fueled by my anger towards him. “Ness,” Jacob said. I shot Jacob an annoyed look. “What?” I inquired. Jacob looked at me with surprise at my sudden outburst. He asked, “Are you upset because I poured water on you?” “Yes. I was trying to tan.” I responded. Jacob rolled his eyes. He said, “I was playing with you. I hoped you would take a dip in the water.” “I get it, but I have feelings, too. It bothers me when someone messes with me,” I explained. It may not have been a big deal, but my pregnancy hormones were affecting me. Jacob looked at me, speechless, for a minute before he spoke again. “I didn’t realize you felt like that. I’m sorry.” “You should be,” I said, crying. Why was I so emotional? God, I hate being pregnant. Jacob brooded as he said, “Nessie, are you alright? You’ve been acting weird, and I don’t know if I bought the eating excuse earlier?” “Yeah, I’m fine.” I lied. “It doesn’t seem that you are okay. Out of nowhere, you wail and sob over nothing. What were you trying to tell me earlier?” “It’s not important.” “It seems like it.” “Not in the slightest.” “Nessie, if it’s not a big deal, then you should be able to tell me.” I looked at Jacob, and his face was severe and concerned. I should tell him. He would find out when I show. “Fine hum,” I said. Someone interrupted us by approaching. “Hey, Renesmee,” said Embry and Quil together. “Hey,” Thank god, they saved me. I didn’t think I was ready to tell him yet. “I heard you got back,” Quil mentioned. “Yeah, Jacob rescued me, and I’m grateful,” I responded. “Yeah, well, we’re glad you’re home,” said Embry, expressing their joy. “Thanks.” “Well, we should go bye.” They left, and Jacob asked me, “So, what did you say?” “Hmm...” I tried to respond, but my phone interrupted me. I grabbed it and answered, saying, “Hello.” “Hey, we’re back. Dad and I need to chat with you. Can you come over?” Mom inquired. “Sure,” “Love you.” “Love you, too.” I hung up, and Jacob looked at me with curiosity. “It was my mom. She’s home and wants to talk to me, so I must go home,” I responded. “Okay,” Jacob said. Jacob grabbed a towel to dry himself, and I grabbed mine and dried off. I dressed, and Jacob followed suit. After getting dressed, we returned to the motorcycle, got on, and returned to my house. Before we passed the main house, I noticed mom and dad entering the main house. “Can we stop here, Jacob?” I inquired. “Huh, sure,” Jacob pulled up. I hopped off the bike and approached the house while he drove away. Walking into the house, I heard voices and ran up the stairs. As I got upstairs, I saw mom and dad on the couch. I walked over to them, and they looked at me, smiling. My mom walked up and hugged me. She said, “Hello, honey.” “Hey,” I said. “I missed you so much. I was anxious that something may have happened to you.” “Yeah, me too,” Dad said. I saw the sadness in dad’s eyes. Dad got up and walked over to me to hug me. “I apologize for everything,” I conveyed. “It’s alright. I get why you did it. It’s on me. I shouldn’t have treated you that way,” Dad acknowledged. “So you’re not mad.” “No.” “Well, I’m glad that’s settled now. I’m lying down.” I plopped on the couch. Mom came over, nudged my legs, and sat down. “Hey, we’re not done,” she reminded me. Dad moved to sit next to mom. “What is it?” I asked. Mom asked, “What went down between you and Mason?” “What about it?” I asked. “How serious were you guys?” My eyes widened. Mom asked about our level of commitment. We had s*x. That is how serious we were. “It’d be easier to show how serious we were. You might freak out,” I explained. I lifted my shirt, showing the baby bump that was forming. I perplexed my parents when I showed them my stomach. They felt confused but soon understood my implication when I rested my hand on my bump. Dad’s eyes widened, and his face took on a sinister expression. My mom’s eyes widened as well. “You can’t be pregnant,” Mom said. “Well, it happened,” I said. “How far are you?” “I don’t know.” Mom’s gaze shifted from dad to me. She said, “You’re doing better at having a baby than I did.” “I am a half-vampire, so it can’t kill me that fast.” Mom nodded and asked, “So, the baby hasn’t been drinking your blood or anything?” “No, not that I know of. I went hunting this morning,” I responded. “Have you noticed any side effects yet?” “Yeah, a lot.” “Like what?” “Extreme tiredness, craving for blood, mood swings, weight gain, and feeling lightheaded.” “Well, has Jacob noticed anything?” “Yeah, but he doesn’t know.” “Wait, you haven’t told him yet?” “No, I’m ready to tell him, but I’m afraid I will lose my best friend.” “Are we the only ones who know?” “Yeah, and I prefer maintaining the status quo, but inform grandpa. He’ll know what’s best for me.” “You’re still in the first trimester, so you know abortion is an option.” Abortion? Is that even possible? Can you give up your baby without becoming a mom? I don’t want to dispose of the baby, though, but is it possible? “Abortion?” I asked. “Yeah, you can get rid of the baby unless you don’t want to,” Mom responded. “How?” “I don’t know how, but Carlisle will talk to you about it.” I nodded. “Well, get home and get some rest. Then we’ll tell the rest of the family the news.” Mom said. “Okay,” I said. I gave both of them a hug and headed home.
