Chapter Sixteen

Renesmee’s P.O.V I’m dressed and ready to go sightseeing with Mason and his mother. We headed out, and I saw nothing more beautiful while sightseeing. Mason also took me to an art museum called Pinacoteca e Museo Civico. The paintings were unique and lovely. “How did you pay for this?” I asked. “Well, we are rich,” Mason responded. “Back home. I live in a mansion.” “Oh, why didn’t you tell me you live elsewhere?” “I didn’t think you needed to know.” “So, why did you come to Forks?” “No reason.” “Come on, tell me.” “Oh look, we’re here. I want to show you around.” Mason pointed at a castle-enjoyable building. It had a tower at the top and a bell inside it hanging. He dragged me to the entrance of the building. “Where are we going?” I inquired. “To Palazzo Dei Priori.” Mason responded. “Oh, what do you do here? It looks creepy?” “Oh well, there are places to sightsee and eat at.” “Oh.” As we walked in, it was quiet. No one was present in the vicinity. Jacob’s face popped into my mind. Thoughts of him consumed my mind, and I couldn’t understand why. I thought about what Jacob said. Were they planning something against me? Jacob does not lie to me ever, so it must be true. “I thought this place was for tourists. But it’s empty,” I commented. “That’s because they don’t hang out here,” Mason responded. As I walked down the hall with Mason, my eyebrows furrowed in curiosity, and I was eager to unravel the mystery. Upon entering the elevator, the doors revealed people wearing black cloaks. I couldn’t see their eyes because they hid them under their hoods, and walking past them felt eerie. While we were walking, a young individual approached us. I grabbed Mason’s hand tight and stayed close to him. “Welcome, right this way.” The woman said. “Who is that?” I asked as we followed her into a room. “She’s a secretary and works here,” Mason responded. “Oh, but why isn’t she wearing a black cloak?” “She doesn’t need one.” “Oh.” The woman opened the door, inviting us inside. She closed the door, and as I looked back, fear gripped me. I turned to Mason, who wore a mischievous smile. “Why are you grinning like that? It’s kinda creepy,” I remarked. I observed where Mason was gazing, and I was in shock. My eyes widened at what I had seen. The people from my childhood were here. “Mason, what’s this? Why did you take me here?” I inquired. “You’ll see,” A person stood up and walked towards us. As he came closer, he removed his hood, revealing his face. I noticed his red eyes. Aro appeared. He had a mischievous expression on his face. “Hey, guys! Look who we found - another Cullen,” he exclaimed. “What’s happening here? Why am I here?” I questioned. Aro approached me. “Mason brought you here for me,” he acknowledged. “Thanks, Mason. You can leave now.” “What?” I looked at Mason, puzzled, and Mason looked at me. His face was unreadable, and I couldn’t tell if he felt regretful. “I’m giving you away,” he responded. “I want to go back home where I belong.” I glared at him, feeling angry. “Wait, this was all a joke to keep us apart. I trusted you, and now there’s a baby on the way,” I exclaimed. “I get it. I’m sorry, but my family comes first,” Mason explained. “This is unbelievable. I’m so disgusted with you.” “I’m sorry...” “No, go home to your mansion. I never want to see you again.” Mason turned around. He looked guilty this time. He closed the door behind him. I turned back to Aro. A doleful expression adorned my face. “Why did you want me?” I asked. “Everything returned to normal, and you left with everyone else.” “I want you here because we need someone as fascinating as you to join our coven.” “Your coven, no way.” “Why not?” “I’m not joining you all. What do I have you need? I’m also half-human.” “Your power. Will you show it to me?” I moved my hand to Aro’s face, and it flashed memories of my life. I pulled away. He was in shock. “Your powers seem stronger,” he said. “They can help us remember things from before.” “Yeah, they could. Besides, we would love another girl besides Jane!” Marcus yelled from the back of the room in his chair. The doors opened. Jane, a familiar face, entered, removing her hood. She joined the group. “Did I hear my name?” she inquired. “Yes, we have a little visitor,” Aro responded. Jane looked at me. She said, “Oh yeah, hey, Renesmee.” “Hi,” “Let’s return to the situation, shall we? Join us or else,” Aro warned. “Or else what?” I asked. “We will kill you, or we will lock you up. It’s your call.” “Neither! I will never join you guys!” I ran to the door. I felt pain and fell. I yelled, “Stop! Please, I’ll do it!” Aro told her to stop, and she stopped. I attempted to escape, but I was unsuccessful. Marcus and Caius rushed over to me, grabbed my arms, and pulled me back. Aro stormed over. “You have to choose now,” he insisted. I attempted to break free from their grasp using my vampire strength, but it proved futile. It sucks being half-human. “Why would I work with you? All you do is kill people!” I yelled in Aro’s face. “Yeah, to protect our world,” “Humans have done nothing to you. It’s you. You kill people and turn them into vampires, then let them run wild, revealing your secret to humans.” Alec entered the room. He stated, “She’s right. Yet, we don’t turn. We kill.” “Wait, you hunt vampires who expose themselves?” I inquired. “Yes, but have you revealed your identity to anyone?” “No, I’m not allowed to.” “Wow, that’s perfect. You would be perfect here, so now choose, or how about we kill you?” Aro said, walking over to me, about to rip my head off. I heard a sudden bang, causing us to turn around and see my family behind us. “Renesmee!” they all yelled. “Aro, let her go. There’s no harm!” Grandpa yelled. “I know, but we made an agreement, and if she doesn’t join us, she dies,” Aro responded. “What, no way!” Jacob growled. “A protective wolf, I remember you,” Aro said, noticing. “Let her go. She did nothing!” “We know, and Mason and Scarlett agreed that she’s mine now.” I saw that Jacob’s body was giving off heat. I tried to reach him. I yelled, “Jacob, relax!” Mom touched Jacob’s shoulder. She reassured him, “Yes, relax, Jacob. Everything is fine.” I turned back to Aro. He approached me. I ordered them to let me go. They complied and walked away. Aro held my hand and gazed at me. He asked, “May I?” I nodded my head, and Aro read my thoughts. A minute later, Aro looked up at me with a shocked expression. He said, “You cling to your family and that boy. It is interesting and disgusting.” “He’s my best friend.” “I see that well; it’s time to choose or else.” “Fine, I’ll die.” “No!” Jacob and my family yelled. The family attacked. I ran to Jacob, hugging him. He held my hand. “Let’s go, Nessie,” he urged. We ran out the door, and Jane followed behind us. I yelled, “Jacob!” Jacob turned around and guided me to the elevator. We pressed the button, and the elevator closed before Jane approached us. When we got to the first floor, Jacob guided me to the car outside. I got in, and so did he. “I’m sorry, Jacob. I should’ve listened to you,” I apologized. “It’s okay,” I nodded. Jacob kissed my forehead and started the car. Then Jacob pulled out. He asked, “Where is your stuff?” “At a hotel, turn left,” I responded. Upon arriving at the hotel, I retrieved my belongings from the room and joined Jacob in the car. “Where are we heading to?” I inquired. “Home where it’s safe. They told me they would figure out a way home. But for now, they want you safe,” Jacob responded. We then headed to the airport and headed home.
