Chapter 11: Devious Plan

1550 Words
A cool breeze started during the night, the weather turned colder as the winter season was fast approaching. The young lady sits comfortably on her bed with a book in her hands. The lights inside the bedroom illuminated the place, she reclined comfortably while reading the book in her hand slowly. The tea on her bedside table had gone cold without her realizing it. Auntie Herma was staring blankly at her. In just a short time, Lady Kira had turned different from before. From the time she woke up from her high fever, she became calmer and more serene in everything she did. In the past, she hated reading and learning etiquette. Madam even had to force her, since she’s from the royal lineage and proper etiquette and manners are highly needed. But this stopped when Madam died. Lady Kira didn’t continue to strive hard to learn. But now, looking at the young girl on the bed, reading the book quietly and with great interest, she didn’t know if she should feel relieved or be worried. She knew her lady very well. She hated books more than anyone, so this made her worry. However, she can’t help but feel relief as well because her lady wanted to learn now, which will make Madam happy in the afterlife. Auntie Herma stood in a daze while watching Kira silently. She didn’t realize how long she was standing when Bariston nudged her softly, “Auntie Herma, since when did Lady Kira take interest in reading?” “I also don’t know the answer to that, Bariston. From the time she woke up, she completely changed. It’s like she had been possessed by somebody else.” Auntie Herma glanced at the huge clock placed on the wall and noticed that it was already very late. Her lady needed to rest now. She walked over to her and warmly advised, “Lady Kira, it’s already very late at night. You have just recovered, so it would be better for you to rest early.” Kira shook her head, “You go rest first Auntie Herma, Bariston. I will finish reading this book first before I sleep.” She wanted to persuade her again but stopped when she noticed the seriousness on her face while reading. So she held back and took the tea set away. “Let’s go, Bariston. Let’s not disturb Lady Kira.” When they were outside, Bariston curiously asked, “Auntie Herma, why didn’t you persuade Lady Kira to rest? Why is she so invested in that book she was reading?” “I did persuade her.” Auntie Herma retorted, “But, do you think she will listen to my advice? Since Lady Valerie left her room this morning, she had been reading books throughout. If I’m not mistaken, that was already the fourth book she was reading.” She glanced back at the room worriedly. “I think Lady Kira is planning to attend the examination. The book she was reading is all about paintings, poems, music, and the one on her hand right now is all about politics.” Bariston’s mouth turned agape, “What?! Lady Kira is planning to compete?!” Auntie Herma looked sharply at him, which made Bariston shut up. “Tone down your voice. It’s not good if this spreads out. Rumors will start circulating about Lady Kira if you are heard.” She sighed deeply before turning her gaze away, “Don’t disturb Lady Kira in the following days. And guard her room well. Don’t let anyone spy on her. Understood?” Bariston nodded in agreement. In the room, Kira was still reading. She was studying the book seriously and carefully read each word and line without leaving a single detail. The book she was holding is all about the officials of the castle. In the past, she didn’t know a single one of them, since she didn’t care about politics. But now, she needed to understand and know them better, to know their weaknesses and know what’s the proper approach. She has to evaluate which among these officials are loyal to the alpha and loyal to the castle. Kira knew that some of them might be involved in her past predicament so she needed to sort them out. And with her current status, she needed to pull some of them to be her allies to make her revenge come into place. On the other side of the palace, inside a luxurious bedroom. Two young females were discussing secretly. One was wearing a dark red silk nightgown that perfectly highlighted her skin tone, while the other was wearing a fitted green dress, hugging her body perfectly, which emphasized her curves. Valerie was sitting in front of a huge mirror while brushing her long straight brown hair. Her red gown was swaying softly as the window of her room was slightly opened. This had been her habit every evening. She would always brush her hair and take great care of it. Among all the ladies in the castle, a lot of women were envious of her silky-looking smooth hair. As she was thinking, Valerie finally put down the brush in her hand and turned around, “Morgana, you disappointed me.” Morgana lowered her head in embarrassment and answered softly, “Lady Kira, I apologize. I just did it because I don’t like Kira following you around all the time. It will tarnish your reputation. Kira is just trash. What right does she have to follow you?” Valerie slowly stood up and approached her, she wore a gentle smile that no one could guess the wickedness behind that smile. “Morgana, you must have forgotten that she is my younger sister. It’s not right for you to do something like that.” “I visited my younger sister this morning and saw her frail appearance. She hasn’t recovered properly. I’m guessing she won’t be able to attend the examination in her condition. Am I right, Morgana?” she continued. Morgana quickly nodded. “Yes, Lady Valerie. You are right.” Valerie continued, “She would be sad at that time because she can’t attend the examination. Everyone knows how important this year’s competition is and, sadly, my sister can’t attend. My late mother asked me to take good care of her, so if she felt unhappy, my mother would blame me. So what should I do about it, Morgana?” her voice sounded weak and troubled. Morgana jeered in her heart, Lady Valerie was taking really good care of that trash princess who was not worthy at all. In her mind, Kira doesn’t deserve that care and love at all. How did she wish that she had died during that fall in the lake? In that way, Lady Valerie would now focus on herself and didn’t need to think of her wasteful sister. Morgana’s eyes turned and she said, “What if we let Franz Devon accompany her during that time? I’m sure she wouldn’t feel sad with him accompanying her.” “What do you mean? Kira said that she didn’t love that man and it’s all a misunderstanding.” Valerie voiced her opinion. She frowned after hearing the concern in her voice, “She was lying, Lady Valerie. Don’t believe what she said. We know that she wanted to get Master Javier’s approval and attention so she wouldn’t want to disgrace herself in front of him. What she said were all excuses to hide her feelings for him and for her not to get punished.” Valerie went silent. She lowered her eyes. Morgana thought that Lady Valerie felt betrayed because of the lies spouted by Kira, so she comforted her immediately. “Don’t be too sad about it, Lady Valerie. I told you over and over again that Kira is not someone that you can trust. Just look at what happened. Even to you, she lied just to protect herself.” She spoke with a tone that was unable to hide her anger. Valerie weakly showed a sad smile, “It’s okay. As long as Kira is happy, I’m willing to do anything. Let’s do the thing you suggested earlier. I hope this will make Kira happy even if she can’t attend the examination.” “Rest assured Lady Valerie, I’ll take care of everything.” Morgana said, “You don’t have to worry about anything. Lady Valerie should focus on your practice so that you can become the winner in the examination again.” After Morgana left, Valerie’s gentle face turned hostile and cold. A vicious smile appeared on her lips as she looked at the closed door. “So stupid of you Morgana. That’s why I really can’t discard you, my useful chess piece.” “Dave,” she said. A brown wolf jumped inside the window and transformed into a human. He bowed respectfully to her. “What is your order, Lady Valerie?” “Make sure that Morgana’s plan will be executed well during the examination. I want everyone to witness my sister and Franz Devon together in one place.” She smiled sweetly. “But make sure, if this is known, the blame should be put on Morgana alone. Understood?” “Understood, Lady Valerie.”
