Chapter 1: Dark Prison Cell
In the early summer, as the evening night sky castes the whole castle, torrential rain starts to pour.
As the skies were overcast with dark clouds, it brought a depressing feeling. Inside the palace hall, decorated with streams of magnificent red and gold flowers, carefully arranged in each corner. Red silks were hung on the entrance of the hall, indicating a joyous event.
People dressed in magnificent clothes, filled with gems and stones. Servants busily roamed around the hall, attending to the guests who had arrived. It was a grandiose party.
The main character of the party, a young lady dressed in red clothes, looked ethereal as she descended the stairs. The dress leaves her shoulders uncovered, instead, it’s supported around her neck and flows down into a simple plunging neckline. It’s a relaxed fit that removes the focus from her breasts, but without making it look sloppy.
Her arms were covered to just above her elbows. The sleeves broaden towards the bottom and playfully accentuate her skin.
Beside her is a man in his middle age, wearing a dignified suit and having an overwhelming aura surrounding him. Despite his wearing age, it didn’t hide his handsomeness and strong pasture.
As they both reached the hall, sounds of applause and congratulatory words were spoken. The young lady smiled, which charmed everyone.
“You look beautiful, Lady Valerie. The Morris Family is lucky to have you as their daughter-in-law.” everyone sang their praises.
On the opposite side of the castle, inside a dark prison cell where light can hardly pass through, a female was half-kneeling on the ground. The cold ground was painted with red, a pungent smell of blood, which belonged to the woman.
This female was only in her twenties, but her face was already like an older woman’s. There was a big bump on her forehead and her hair was unkempt. There was deep hostility between her brows and her eyes were as dead as stagnant water, unable to tear like a long dried well but filled with a bottomless hatred.
“Kira” a man whispered, breaking the silence. He is standing right outside the cell, with his hands holding a lamp to illuminate the place. “Kira, I’m sorry.”
Kira raised her head. She can’t see anything nor can she see the person outside the cell. But, she recognized who that voice belonged to. She remained silent for a long time before slowly speaking with a hoarse voice, “What are you doing here?”
The man looked at Kira’s sorry state, guilt was flashed on his face, “I’m really sorry, Kira. I have no choice but to do it.”
“No choice” Kira muttered before suddenly lowering her head for a cold laugh, “What a good excuse! Because you don’t have a choice, you chose to betray me!”
Because of this choice, her most trusted person whom she thought would truly care and protect her in the past betrayed her. Because of this choice, her dearest sister, whom she thought treated her well, caused her to land in this dark cell with her eyes stabbed out from her.
Because she trusted the wrong people, she ended up with broken limbs and blind eyes. What kind of wrong has she done? When did all of these miseries start to happen?
Was it the time when her sister, Valerie, became the mate of the alpha’s son of the Morris Family? Or was it the time when she gave her complete trust to this person standing outside this prison cell and gave her heart to him? Or was it the time when she came back to this castle after being a slave in Wishborne Castle a year ago?
From the past to the present, from a princess to a slave, it was all because she trusted the wrong people!
A sound of footsteps came unhurriedly. “Lady Valerie,” the man greeted her.
“How are you my dear younger sister?” Valerie asked.
Kira slowly raised her head when she heard that voice. She knew how happy this woman was feeling right now. All her life, she thought, her elder sister was kind and treated her like family. Oh, how naive! It was all an act! A fake one! A trap that she gladly accepted with open arms.
She was even willing to disguise herself as a slave to the Morris Family to help this sister of hers to become their daughter-in-law. She naively accepted all the arrangements her father told her to make, thinking that it would make them proud of her.
“Knowing that you are my younger sister, I will grant you this poison to end your life. In this way, you can end this suffering of yours.”
“Why?” Kira asked with difficulty.
Valerie did not reply.
“Why do you need to torture me like this? Why do you need to take my eyes away? I’m not a threat to you.” she asked once more.
Valerie Theola Kholins, princess of the Rouguemont Castle, was the eldest daughter of the alpha, Javier Kholins, their father. She was beautiful, talented, and a peerless genius in the whole castle. At an early age, she finally got her wolf and she is already a 3rd rank werewolf, which signifies her great strength and skills.
Since young, Kira was taught to always help her elder sister, saying that it’s her sister who can protect her in this lifetime. She firmly believed that and helped her sister achieve great success. She firmly held to that belief.
Because of that, she dedicated herself to assisting Valerie. She didn’t have any time for training herself, which led to her being wolf-less until then. She came up with advice and plans to make her sister outshine the other ladies lurking around Clovis Morris, the son of the Morris Family.
On the day her sister finally got the marriage proposal, she thought she could finally have peace since her mission was finally done. She can now travel the world, which she wanted to do the most in this life.
She thought that since her sister was already happy, she could now find her happiness as well. But that’s only the start of her miseries. On her way to leave the castle, she was surrounded by werewolves, her sister’s subordinates to be specific, and was brought to the castle’s dungeon.
Before she was sent to this prison, the prison guards sent her to a vacant room and had her eyes carved out from her.
She only wanted to ask one question, “Why?”
Kira reasoned, “Valerie, do you have any conscience? You and I are a family, we belong to the same castle, we belong to the same pack, and we belong to the same bloodline. I have not done anything wrong to you. When you first asked me to help you marry that man, I planned it out for you. When you wanted to know everything about the Morris family to please them, I sacrificed myself and became their slave to get that firsthand information for you. It was me who made that marriage possible. Now that my death is near, I will ask you one question. Why?”
“Kira, my dear younger sister.” Valerie frowned, but there was a sarcastic look on her face. “You are really stupid, aren’t you? You’re not just a waste, but also a disgrace to the whole Kholins family. Do you know that when you reached the right age to have your wolf transformation, and you didn’t achieve it, I was so delighted back then? Since we were young, you have been an eyesore to me. It’s because of you that my mother died! So, why should I let you live a peaceful life!?”
Kira’s entire body shook. These days she had cried so much that her tears no longer flowed. “What do you mean?” she asked slowly.
“It’s no use for you to know since you are going to die anyway,” she coldly scoffed, “Franz, give that poison to her. Make sure she dies today.” finished speaking, and she walked out.
Kira crouched on the floor as she clenched her fists. This was the person whom she truly cared for and treated as a family! This is really an amusing play, a big joke!
“Kira, I’m sorry. I’m just following orders. Please don’t blame me.” before she could state her protest, a liquid was forcefully drowned in her throat which made her cough a couple of times.
Kira spat a mouthful of fresh blood. She struggled on the floor, laying a poisonous vow in her heart. Her father, Franz, and Valerie, all the people who harmed her, if there was an afterlife, a debt of blood must be paid in blood!
She vowed that in her next life, she would take her revenge! An eye for an eye! A tooth for a tooth!
