CHAPTER 9 Car Accident

Marnie had been exhausted the whole day since she manned the booth during the Physician's Conference headed at Mandarin Hotel in Roxas Blvd.

Professional Medical Representatives were all busy when there were conferences. They had different booths to manned to promote their companies and products. plus they were servicing the delegates of the doctors by fetching and sending them to their respective hospitals to the conference hotel.

Marnie was just a newbie driver and wasn't that fully familiar with the tasks of sending back and forth of delegates., she accommodates more than 5 delegates to fetch and send.

At first, was enjoying it but later on, she found it so tiring as those delegates almost asked her to drive them to their designated posts and even on their dates with their family. Marnie doesn't want to offend them so she just sent them to where they wanted to be.

When Marnie was about to go home, she fell asleep while driving due to tiredness. It was too late then that when she heard some horning of horns and opened her eyes, she saw that she was going to hit a ten-wheeler truck.

Skrewwetchhhhh...

Only the loud bang of Marnie's car bumping on the truck was the last sound Marnie heard before she closed her eyes. It was total darkness.

It was a big commotion at Commonwealth road, as everybody was shocked at how wrecked a sedan car bumped into a ten-wheeler truck. The medics and ambulance immediately came in and they were a bit exhausted as Marnie was still inside the crumpled car. She was unconsciously bathing with her blood.

Her lifeless body was immediately but carefully transferred to a stretcher as the police officers were searching for her identification cards to call her relatives.

Meanwhile, Dr. Michael Co who was driving his car got a bit impatient as he encountered heavy traffic along his way. He listened to the news on this car radio and the accident was already on the news. His heart palpitates and felt uncomfortable as he listened to the news.

"A young lady who was driving her car hit a ten-wheeler car. The lady named Marnie Castello according to her identification cards was lifelessly transferred to an ambulance and was about to bring to a nearby hospital..." Dr. Michael almost lost his mind upon hearing the name Marnie Castello on the news.

He stepped hard on his brakes as he was shocked by the news. He prayed and hoped that it was just the same name as the Marnie he knew.

"Oh God, please. I prayed that it's not Marnie. She should not be the one Marnie I know," he said while remembering the beautiful face of a young lady who seemed to be always in his mind lately.

Ring! Ring!

He answered his phone.

"Hello," he said. He knew that there's an emergency call he needed to attend to in the hospital.

"Hello, Dr. Michael. You have an emergency tonight. Ambulance 101 called up and advised of a car accident patient. They were heading the hospital right now," the other party informed him.

"Okay. I'll be there right away," he replied while starting to maneuver his car back to St. Luke's Hospitals.

His heart kept on beating so fast as he almost see Marnie's face in front of him smiling and blushing every time he stared at her.

"God, please. Please," he prayed. He never prayed so hard like this every time there's a call for an emergency as he was already immune to it. He was just doing his duty as a doctor to save the lives of his patients.

But why is it this time it's quite different?

He is quite afraid to see that it will be the same Marnie as he knew.

Upon arrival at the emergency hospital, Dr. Michael almost lost the color of his face when he saw that Marnie was the one who was almost lifelessly lying on the bed and bathing with her fresh blood. Her body was so fragile as there were lots of injuries. Her abdomen was still bleeding as there was some debris being stuck in it. Some of her bones from her lower extremities were exposed then.

He was already immune to this kind of scenario, but looking at the patient in front of him now is different. She wanted to protect this tiny lady and yet she was now lifelessly lying on their stretcher. Her body was full of injuries and he can't almost bear how these pains will be insured by Marnie's little body. He wanted to embrace her and comfort her.

Dr. Michael felt that his heart was broken seeing how Marnie's body was injured. He immediately checked her and instructed them for emergency surgery. This young lady must survive and he will do everything to revive her. He will do everything to revive her and heal her.

His hands were trembling as he is starting to do the procedure for Marnie. He wanted to cry as he touches and removes all the debris inside her abdominal part. He can see the exposed intestines and other damaged digestive organs of Marnie.

He will conduct multiple surgical procedures to restore all the damaged and raptured internal organs from her digestive system down to her lower extremities. Her legs were fully damaged as well as some of her bones were already broken and exposed. Doctor Michael as one of the top surgeons in the Philippines requested 3 more top surgeons who were all his close friends to come over and they will join forces to do the multiple surgical procedures for Marnie.

"Please check her heartbeat! Monitor her vital signs! Scalpel!" he had lots of instructions from his staff and nurses around him. Marnie's multiple surgery procedures lasted for about 12 hours. A Series of procedures will be done in the following days to come as her body can't tolerate all at the same time. Her body will be needing some time to rest before the other procedures will be conducted to her body.

This surgery was the most difficult one for Doctor Michael as his emotions were involved. When his colleagues and co-surgeons came, they had an emergency meeting on how can they immediately restore all the raptures and damaged parts of Marnie's body. He doesn't want to fail. He wanted to let Marnie live the life she was supposed to enjoy. She was too young for this accident that will give her a lifetime of trauma.

He will make it a point that he will take care of everything for her. He won't allow anything wrong to happen to her one more. She's still in the Intensive Care Unit with so many drips and tubes inside her body.

Doctor Michael touched Marnie's face and said, "I wanted you to wake up with no more pains. Let me treat and help you recover my lady." He wanted to kiss and hug her but he can't. His heart was broken so hard. If only he knew that this will happen. He won't allow her to do the servicing to other doctors. She was too exhausted to sleep during driving. He wanted to protect her but he failed this time.
