It was late at night when Mr. Castello received a call from his daughter's number. He was a bit sleepy to answer.
"Hello sweety," he used to call her this as Marnie was his only daughter and he loved her so dearly.
"Hello, Sir. Is this the father of Ms. Marnie Castello," a man's voice from the other line made Mr. Castello worried?
"Yes, I am. Who are you and why are you using my daughter's cellphone?" he asked.
" Good evening Sir. I am a police officer Darwin Varias. We would like to inform you that your daughter was involved in a car accident here in Commonwealth. Her car was hit by a ten-wheeler car and she was brought to Luke's Hospital," the police officer directly informed him.
Mr. Castello was so shocked upon hearing this terrible news about his daughter.
He didn't finish talking to the police officer over the phone as his phone fell from his shaking hand.
He cried and started to wake up his wife, Mrs. Castello.
"Honey, wake up," he doesn't know how to break this news to her. Marnie was their everything. Even though Marnie was so stubborn with her mother, Mrs. Castello loved her daughter so much. She was so possessive with her as she doesn't want her to be hurt even just a small bite of an insect.
"We need to go to the City. Marnie needs us," he said while preparing himself.
'Hey, why? What happened to her?" Mrs. Castello was so worried.
"She met a vehicular accident and she was rushed to the hospital already," he said.
"What! Oh my God, my baby," Mrs. Castello cried out loud. She can't bear it and collapsed.
Mr. Castello woke up his sons and asked them to assist him with their mother.
After 10 minutes when Mrs. Castello regained her consciousness, she was already in their coaster and Mr. Castello was driving to Quezon City together with their two other sons.
She kept on crying while on the road and Marnie's brothers were comforting her.
It took them about 5 hours due to heavy traffic when they've reached the hospital
Marnie was still inside the operating room. They can't ask somebody as they were all busy reviving Marnie. They've all waited in the lobby.
"The other nurse said that it was almost 5 hours already since Marnie got inside the operating room Dad. Why is it she's still there? What took them too long?" Mrs. Castello was so worried that she began to cry again.
Mr. Castello hugged his wife. He still can't explain since they only knew a few things.
"Let's still wait here, the doctors and the medical staff were still inside. Let's just pray that everything will be well for our daughter okay," he caressed his wife's back. Even he was so worried why is it Marnie's surgery was taking it too long. He hoped that his daughter will make it. They want her alive.
The couples and their sons went to chapel and prayed so hard for Marnie's safe and fast surgery.
When Doctor Michael was informed that Marnie's family was already there, he came out and looked for them.
Mr. Castello and Mrs. Castello were already at the lobby when Doctor Michael came out.
"Doc how's our daughter?" Mr. Castello asked Doctor Michael.
"Hi, Sir. I'll be honest with you. Marnie's condition is critical. We have removed one kidney and a portion of her upper colon. Other parts of her digestive system were almost raptured due to the high impact of her vehicular accident. It's a miracle already that she was still alive. Though she was still under observation since she wasn't waking up. She's in a state of coma. She will still undergo with series of surgeries but we will not proceed with all of those today. Her body might collapse. She needed to rest some more days before we open her again for another procedure," he explained to them about Marnie's condition.
Mr. Castello can't help when his tears started to flow down from his eyes.
Mrs. Castello almost freaked out upon hearing the sad news for her daughter, "Oh my God. My beloved daughter. Oh God," she was being comforted by their two sons who were crying as well.
'But she is indeed a survivor. Her willingness to survive was there. She is fighting for her life," Doctor Michael told them. He was supposed to be happy to meet Marnie's family but not at this moment. He sympathizes with the, as that news almost broke his heart as well. If only he can turn back the time, it won't happen to Marnie then.
"Yes, she's a born stubborn and fighter. She will overcome with it," Mr. Castello told Doctor Michael.
"Please save ou daughter. She's our only priceless princess," Mrs. Castello cried and begged Doctor Michael.
"She can make it. I won't allow her to leave us. Have faith. I'll be going again inside, please excuse me," Doctor Michael asked permission from them so that he can go back inside.
" After another set of procedures, Marnie will be transferred to an ICU later since she was still in the state of coma. Her body suffered totally. External and internal. It was a miracle that she was still alive now.
Mr. Castello asked Doctor Michael when will they daughter woke up.
"We never can tell, for now, she's still under observation. I will arrange a VIP room for you to stay. Marnie will be staying at the ICU until further notice of transferring her into a VIP room," Doctor Michael told them.
He was so exhausted, it was the most difficult procedure he had done in his entire life. It wasn't easy reviving someone's importance to you. Seeing how she fought for her life. How the needles and tubes were forcibly inserted into her body. How he cut her body. It was torture for him. He wanted to take all the pains that she's enduring right now. He was starting to pursue her.
But then, he realized, he wanted her to be his already. He is willing to take good care of her for the rest of their lives.
He will ensure that her life will be shielded under his care.
He went to his clinic and rest for a while. His heart was broken. Broken. He is praying so hard for Marnie's safe and fast recovery.
