CHAPTER 7. Marnie's Drive Test

It was already 3 months since Marnie was deployed in Metropharm Phils. She was advised to take up a driving lesson but she can't find the time.

She is carrying lots of samples of products like small bottles of multivitamins and antibiotics for pediatric and general physicians' departments. She also promotes to Internal Medicine, Surgery and On Gyne's Departments.

Every time she works, she used to takes a cab to bring along her promotional materials and samples to her doctors which is quite inconvenient for her.

She needs to be patient and make an effort to pass her driving lesson and test.

Beep! Beep!

As Marnie was walking along the street side with a trolley bag full of promotional materials and samples, she heard a car beeping along her side. She took a glance and then she saw Dr. Michael Co. It made her heart beats so fast as Dr. Co smiled at her.

"Hi, Marnie. Where are you heading? You can hop in," the doctor invited her to ride inside his car.

"Good afternoon doctor. I'm going to Chinese General Hospital," she said. She is quite hesitant to accept the doctor's offer to ride in his car. It's quite so embarrassing for a Professional Medical Representative like her to let their doctors drive for them. They should be the ones to be of service to the doctors.

"I know what you're thinking. Don't hesitate, I don't mind sending you there. It's along my way also. Come on," the doctor said while reaching the car's door and opening it for Marnie.

Marnie then accepted Doctor Michael's offer and hitch inside his car. Doctor Michael opened the car's compartment at the back and he helped her load her trolley bag in it.

"Oops, it's too heavy. Can you carry this alone?" he asked her. He is quite worried that this tiny lady will bring along with her this heavy load later.

"Yup Doc, I can. I still can't pass my drive test yet. Hoping I can pass it later this afternoon so that it can be a big help me transport my things in the future he," she is quite embarrassed while sharing her problem in driving to him so that he can understand why she needs to commute with her heavy things.

"So you wanted to pass on your drive test? Are you frightened?" he asked while driving.

"Do you want to reschedule your drive test to them? Let me teach you tonight. I'm free," he offered to her.

Marnie was stupefied. She was so hesitant to accept the offer. He is her core doctor and it's pretty awkward on her part that he will teach her how to drive using his car.

"Never. It's an okay doctor. I don't want to bother and disturb you. Besides I am a bad student, you might be disappointed with me," she said without looking at him. She doesn't want to offend him, yet she was so ashamed of herself if she will accept his offer.

What if she damaged his car? She doesn't have any pennies to pay for him.

"I know what are you thinking. No need to worry. I won't use this car for your driving. I still have a spare car for your driving test okay. I won't charge you either regarding the damages if there will be any okay," he said to her with a smile.

Marnie was tempted to accept his offer as she needs to practice more before she undergoes the company's drive test, otherwise when she fails, she won't bring home her car tonight.

"Come on. Treat this as my friendly offer okay. I want you to get your company car. It will be convenient to you then to transport your belongings," he smiled at her while convincing.

"Alright, but promise me, doctor, it will be our secret okay. I don't want to have any issues in the hospital," she accepted his offer and asked him to keep it a secret.

Doctor Michael laughs and said, "Okay, it will be our secret then," he smiled at her.

Marnie showed her pinky finger and asked him to do the same and made a compact with him that it will be kept as their secret.

Doctor Michael finds her cute more.

Marnie immediately called her company and asked for the reschedule date of her drive test. Her company take note of her request and reschedule her for the following week.

"Yey, my company is so kind to me. And so you too Doc. Thank you. I'll go to your clinic after my coverage," she said.

"No, I'll fetch you. What time will you finish your coverage? What hospital?" he asked.

"Is it okay with you doctor," she is quite hesitant to ask. "I'll be done by 4 PM, here at Chinese General Hospital too,"

"It's alright. I'll go home early to change my car first then I'll fetch you. Wait for me then," he said.

Marnie felt relieved and comfortable with Doctor Michael already. He wasn't a snob doctor as others said. He is so cool and very nice.

"Thank you, doctor. You are such an angel to me," she said gratefully to him.

"Welcome," he said.

When they've reached the Chinese General Hospital, Doctor Michael helped her unload her luggage from his compartment and asked a guard to assist Marnie.

He was also a consultant at Chinese General Hospital that's why the staff and guards there knew him.

Other medical representatives saw that Marnie came out from Doctor Michael Co's car and that he helped her with her things. There were gossips spread already.

"Marns, don't entertain the issues. It's common here. Don't mind them okay," he reminded Marnie.

"Noted Doctor. Thank you again. Drive safe," she said to him.

She will rather work alone instead of getting along with her co-medical representatives. Arthur is the only one who is close to her and she doesn't linger with the others. This makes her an impression of a snob newbie in their crowd.

After her coverage, she received a message from Doctor Michael.

"I'm already at the parking lot. Message me when you're done and I'll fetch you at the lobby," she read his message with a smiley emoji.

"Okay doctor. I still have two more coverage. Thank you," she smiled while replying to him.

After she's done with her coverage, she messaged him and Doctor Michael who's driving a Toyota Avanza 2016 model came in. The car's windshield is tinted and he can't be seen outside.

Marnie hitched his car when he stopped in front of the lobby. Nobody saw him and another gossip for Marnie spread out from the crowd. Marnie heard what they were talking about at her back. She just ignored them and hitched the car already.

"Hi, are you ready or do you want to dine first? I am sure you're hungry already," he said when he heard Marnie's tummy make a noise.

"Well, my tummy betrayed me. Let's eat the first Doctor. I'll treat you," she said.

"No. my treat. I don't allow women to treat me on meals haha," he said. He was fond of this childlike tiny lady.

Marnie blushed.

Doctor Michael brought her to Ongpin, Binondo, and treat her meal at "The President's Restaurant". It's a popular Chinese restaurant in Binondo.

He had a reservation for two already. Marnie came with him and they had fine dining together.

She felt so special and still wondered if he is is a doctor. Doctor Michael is down-to-earth and very approachable.

After they had a sumptuous meal, Doctor Michael asked her," Did you enjoy our meals together? Are you ready for your drive test or do you want to take a rest first?" he gently asked her. He felt so happy having her with him right now.

"I think, we need to rest for about 30 minutes before we start our test. Can we doctor?" she asked as she felt that she will throw up when she do the test right away. She was full.

"Okay, let's have a walk first. I'll tour you here in Binondo. Do you want to visit the well-known old church in the Philippines, Binondo Church?" Doctor Michael asked her.

"I haven't been there. Yes Doctor I've loved too," she was so excited.

They went to Binondo Church together and they felt so at ease with each other. Doctor Michael holds her hand and Marnie allowed him as she was so mesmerized by the church's architectural design.

Doctor Michael shared the history of the church while they were coming inside. They've stayed there for a while to give thanks to the Lord.

After about 45minutes, Doctor Michael started his driving tutorial with Marnie. They started with the basics from the parts of the car and its functions until the actual drive test.

Marnie was so nervous as she was thinking that she might damage the car.

"Don't think of anything else. Driving a car is somewhat walking on the road. You have to focus on the road and avoid bumping others. Always think of the basics, our lectures on traffic and road signs are okay. It's already dark and you have to be focused okay," Doctor Michael gently reminded her. He wanted her to be calm and relaxed.

Marnie was a great student based on Doctor Michael's observation.

"You did great tonight," he praised her.

"Thank you. You're indeed an angel Doc," she said.

"Yes, I am. Tomorrow we will practice at Edsa and Commonwealth okay," he said.

"What! I can't," she said. Those are main roads already where the bulk of vehicles and traffic arose.

"Yes, you can. I'll guide you okay. You did great today with the small road. I know you can do more tomorrow at the wider ones. I know you can do it," he is boosting her self-confidence.

Marnie swallowed hard and said, "Okay, I trust you, Doctor," she doesn't want to offend him. Besides she offered this for her benefit.

Doctor Michael then send her home and said good night. Both went to their respective homes and slept with a smile on their lips.
