*Eve POV*
Within this past week, I have escaped the only life I've ever known, found my mate, and am preparing to possibly be reunited with my family. I feel like I have been walking around in a daze. I am so thankful that Kaia's family has welcomed me with open arms, and I really love it here. We left Alpha Hardin's office and I decided to take a walk around their beautiful flower gardens. I grabbed a blanket and a book on my way out so that I could sit and bask in the sun for awhile to just clear my head. Nigel had made plans with Tomas to patrol the pack borders to see where security needed to be tightened. So it was the perfect time to just find some peace. Even for a moment. I found myself moving toward the garden filled with lilies and roses. It had a beautiful fountain, and I placed my blanket on the cement in front of it. I sat down and took out my book, then started to read. The sun on my face and my body felt so good. The air smelled of honeysuckle and the flowers from the gardens. This was the peace and quiet I had been craving.
I was deeply involved in my book. Reading about fairytales with happy endings. I couldn't help but dream about having a happy ending, but I wasn't sure that was in the cards for me. All I had ever known was misery and fear. The day Jillian and I escaped, I knew my world was about to change, and in just a short time it had. I found my handsome mate, who just so happens to be my best friend's brother. Nigel is everything I could have asked the goddess for. He is kind, smart, funny and gentle. He is taking things slow with me because he knows how afraid I am. His arms are my safe zone, and I can already feel myself starting to fall for him. I'm just not ready to be marked and mated yet, and he is OK with that.
I started to get up and head in for lunch, and heard a noise coming from behind me. Startled, I turned around and jumped. "Goddess Nigel, you scared the life out of me!" He laughed and gently hugged me, and kissed my forehead. He continued to laugh and said, "My little dove, you are too jumpy. The only thing you have to worry about from me is too many kisses. Have you enjoyed your time alone?" I smiled and gave him a peck on the lips and replied, "Absolutely, I really needed it." My belly started to rumble, and I didn't realize how hungry I was. "Sounds like someone needs food. Let's go eat baby." He picks me up and puts me over his shoulder. He smacks my ass and I can't help but giggle. We walked into the dining hall like that, and he finally put me down as we approached the buffet. Everyone else was starting to come in as well. "EVIE!" I heard Jillian yell across the room as she entered. "Where have you been today? I was hoping we could spend some time together, just the three of us, before Kaia's party tonight. I'm really excited about dressing up and partying with everyone." I looked at Nigel and he grinned, telling me to have fun, but I needed to eat lunch first. He fills both our plates and we make our way to the table. Tomas and Jillian joined us. I see Alpha Mason at the end of our table deep in thought. Kaia is nowhere to be found. Alpha Hardin and Luna Madalyn enter the room and we all stand out of respect, and sit once they have received their food and sat. Before we were permitted to eat, Alpha Hardin spoke to everyone at the table. "Thank you all for gathering for lunch everyone. Tonight is a special night. My daughter Kaia turned 18 today. We will have a special dinner and then a masquerade party after. We are thankful to have you all join us for the celebration. Please dress accordingly. If you do not have proper attire, please see Luna Madalyn. We are honored to have Alpha Mason, of Summer Springs Pack with us already, and Alpha Samuel, his Luna, his son and guests will be here in a couple of hours. Salute." He then sat and we ate our lunch. "Jilly, have you seen K?" She shook her head, and asked Tomas the same question. He said that she had been in her room since after training. Once we had finished eating, Jillian and I left for Kaia's room. Knocking softly and turning the knob, we pushed the door open slowly. It was quiet but we didn't see anyone in her room. Then we heard it. Kaia started to sing at the top of her lungs from the bathroom. "I'm comin' up, so you better get this party started..I'm comin' up, I'm comin'...I'm comin' up, so you better get this party started...." We started cracking up laughing, and slowly pushed the door open, sneaking in. Both of us tried to contain our laughter. I grabbed the shower curtain and silently counted to 3..."1..2..3.." I jerked the curtain open and we both yelled at K, making her jump like the boogie man and just caught her. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!" We yelled to her. After she caught her breath, she started laughing with us. Thanked us and told us to politely get the hell out of the bathroom. She came out of the bathroom in her robe and plopped on her bed. "Well my gorgeous sisters, are you ready for the party of the year tonight? For one night, we aren't allowed to be sad, scared, agitated or anxious! We are going to have a fabulous time in fabulous dresses, with amazing people. Who knows, maybe I will even be lucky and find my own mate. Do we comprehend ladies?" She started to giggle and we all pinky swore that we would have a great time. We go into her 'Formal Closet' and start searching for dresses that will be "THE DRESSES" for the evening. I chose a cream colored floor-length gown with crystal beading and long sleeves, Jillian chose a fiery red gown with an empire waist and thin straps. It shimmered with every step she took. Kaia came out in a royal purple, sleeveless gown that hugged her body in all the right places. She went to her accessory closet and came out with beautiful jewelry and matching masks to complete our outfits. Three Omega's came in to do our hair and make-up. Before long, Luna Madalyn came to the door to let us know dinner would be starting soon. When she saw us she let out a gasp, and told us how stunning we looked. We thanked her and made our way downstairs.
