Chapter 6

1255 Words
Keira Jaime catches up to me as I walk home after getting Kevin’s mom’s message. “Hey! So tonight are you ready for step one of my plan?” She asks. “Umm, well mom is coming home late…” I start to say but Jaime squeals and cuts me off. “That’s perfect! We can get started right away!” “Wait, she said Kevin and I need to have a family meeting when she gets home at 730. So whatever you have in your head, you need to leave it!” I laugh at her knowing she won’t. “We have 3 hours till your meeting, you have 1 1/2 hours till your brother comes home, this is perfect! Come on, let's get to your house!” She says as she yanks my hand to pull me along. When we get to my house, Jaime tells me she has to measure me. She said she needs my correct measurements for her plan. “Look, you need confidence, you need to change. You use the excuse every time about how you are fat and there is no cute plus size clothing. Plus you say you need to hide your body. Keira, your clothes are ridiculous, but I know a place where you can get really nice clothes cheap, and they have a plus size selection that is really cute.” Jaime states as she writes down my measurements. “There is probably going to be a catch.Usually if it is cheap and nice there is usually a catch.” I told her. “Well yeah, it takes like 2-3 weeks to get the clothes. And you can’t go by size, you have to know your measurements. So give me the $50.” She says, holding out her hand. I go over to my desk to get the money, but before I hand it to her I ask, “So, you are getting an outfit for this?” Jaime laughs and shakes her head No and states, “Babe, I’m getting you at least 4-5 outfits for this. Trust me, this website is the secret of my liking, so fab every day!” I gasp, no way you can get plus size that cheap plus look cute. Besides, who wants to see me in something cute. I think Jaime is just wasting time and money on something. But I will humor her. “So if you think this place really has clothing for me on it, why have you never bought me something to wear off it before?” I ask her. “One, you are resistant to buying yourself new clothes, two they just got a new section called plus and curves,” Jaime said. “You really think wearing something cute is going to look good on me?” I ask her. I really do not want to get my hopes up. I know I’m ugly to look at. Adam and Kevin have told me that so many times. Fat girls are not pretty. “Keira, you are almost 18, you are a senior and it is time you stop looking down on yourself. You need this change, so just trust me ok.” She says. “Ok, I trust you,” I say softly to her as I hand her the money. “You said something about my hair, what is that about?” I ask her. “Ok, like I said this is a 3 part plan. Look we could do all 3 parts in one day and it would shock the hell out of everyone. Let’s be honest, the only way that works is if you were gone all summer and on your first day back, they see the new you after not seeing you for two and a half months." “Ok, I can understand that,” I tell her. “Plus, If you do a complete makeover today and go in the next, you and I both know you are going to be targeted by the soccer team. The last thing we want is for that.” Jaime says. “You are right.” I sigh. One time when I was around 15, I got my hair cut. The lady that cut my hair, cut it way too short. Adam said it looked like I used a soup bowl to cut my hair. The idiots on the team started saying I was the model for the soup kitchen. I had stepped up a little from being called homeless to soup kitchen girl. That lasted for about two months before they went back to just calling me homeless. “So we have to do changes gradually, first you need something new with your hair. It is beautiful, but it is also the same style you had for years.” “I tried that once, remember?” I told her. “ Yeah well, that’s because you went to some i***t in a discount store that didn’t know what they were doing. Remember my cousin Jay,” She says. I nod my head remembering the name. Jaime is always saying how fabulous Jay was. “Well, he owns his own salon and he is a makeup artist. He is simply fabulous and loves to do makeovers, before you say anything, he does it for free. He said he loved to be your new GBF and your fairy godmother” Jaime says. “Wait, what! So your saying Jay is going to become my gay BFF? Why?” I am a little flabbergasted at what Jaime just told me. “You heard me fine, look Jay knows what it is like being the punchline of jokes and being bullied. Plus he loves me and wants to help. Trust me, he will make your hair amazing. It will be a whole new Keira. Plus him being gay, he leads you down the right path on your new look.” Jaime states, looking at me. “Are you sure about this? I ask Jaime and she nods her head. “Ok, asshole brother is due home anytime now, so I guess it's time for me to go.” Jaime said as she was getting up from sitting on my bed. Then turns around and says, “You will like having a gay best friend and your new look he will create for you. Don’t worry.” “Who is gay and what new look?” Kevin asks, walking into my room. “Don’t you knock?” I gasp at him “what if I was changing my clothes? “Chill out twin, I know you remember, you don’t change your clothes during the day.” He laughs. “So this is where the party is?” Adam asks, as he perks his head in the door. “Since when do we socialize in this room?” “Ugh, will you guys get out of my room! Never mind who is gay and a new look, asks Kevin. It is none of your business!” I shout and shove Kevin out the door. “Your gay?” Adam asks. “No! Just get out!” I push him as I’m shutting my door. “Man, what’s wrong with them?” I say to Jaime. “They are boys.” She shrugs her shoulders. “Anyway, I need to go, I’m showing this to Jay and he will figure out your new hair. I'll see you tomorrow.” Jaime states as she walks to the door.
