Chapter 7

1539 Words
Adam I’m driving Kevin to his house after practice. “So I’m guessing, whatever I want to eat for dinner tonight?” I ask Kevin. “Yep. Keira will just heat something up for both of us like always.” He says. Most of the time Kevin eats dinner over at my house. My mom teases him that he is her fourth son because he hangs out over there so much. Keira and Kevin’s mom work for my dad as his PA. They spend so much time together sometimes I wonder if they are having an affair. “So your dad has to take my mom on a business trip?” Kevin asks me. “From what my mom told me this morning. This trip has to do with some new client playing hardball. So you and your sister are going to come stay over at my place while they are on this trip.” “At least I will have a semi-normal family life for a bit, '' Kevin mumbled. Only I know how Kevin feels about his home life. He hates that he and Keira have basically raised themselves. Their mom is always working and is never home. With their mom always working it is just Kevin and Keira at home. Kevin just wants a normal life. There are a few times in a guy’s life you need a male figure to help you out. Their mom can’t help Kevin with stuff. Keira can at least talk to her mom since she is a girl, but Kevin can’t. That is one of the reasons Kevin is at my house so much. Besides having 2 older brothers, I also have my dad there, that is when he isn’t working or going on business trips. In fact, when Kevin needed to learn how to shave, it was my dad that showed him. Even I think of Kevin more like a brother than a best friend sometimes. We pull into his driveway and get out of the car. “What time is your mom due to come home?” I ask Kevin. “730 I think is what Keira said.” He tells me. “Damn,” I say when I realize I left my backpack in the trunk of my car. I need Keira to help me with this English paper. “What’s wrong?” Kevin asks me. I need my backpack. I will meet you inside.” I tell him to go back to the car. Kevin walks into the house while I’m getting my backpack. As I’m opening the trunk of my car I look up at their house, I swore I just caught a glimpse of Keira in the window. Is she still just wearing that tank top? Thinking back to the soccer field. She actually wasn’t as heavy as I thought she was. I mean she isn’t skinny at all. But it looked like she actually might have a decent figure. She has always been on the chunky side. When we were kids, I think she always had some type of junk food she would be eating. In fact, the first time I met her she was eating some type of candy bar. I closed the trunk after I grabbed my backpack and walked into the house and up the stairs to Kevin’s room. I could hear his voice saying, “Chill out twin, I know you remember, you don’t change clothes during the day.” Well, today she did. She definitely wasn’t wearing a tank top when we got to school today. I shook my head and walked into the room. “So this is where the party is?” Since when do we socialize in this room?” “Ugh, will you guys get out of my room? Never mind who is gay and a new look Kevin. It is none of your business!” Keira starts shouting as she shoves Kevin out of the room. She can be quite feisty when she wants to be. So I ask her, “Your gay?” She just said never mind who is gay. What new look is she talking about? “No! Just get out!” She yelled and shoved me out of the room. Then slams the door in my face. I look at Kevin and say to him, “Your sister is so easy to get riled up.” He says, “yep. Why do you think it is so easy to tease her?” Damn! I forgot to get her to look at this paper. Well, I have plenty of chances soon. Wait till she finds out she will be living at my house for a few weeks. —— Keira After Jaime leaves, I go to the kitchen and pull a frozen pizza out of the freezer to make for dinner. Knowing my brother, I decided I better make one for him too. I just finished setting the timer on the stove for the pizzas and a voice startled me. “Hey Keira,” “Oh my god, you scared me, Adam!” I yelled at him clutching my chest. “Sorry, hey I need to ask a favor, but you can not say anything to anyone, including Kevin.” Adam said. “Adam, please I’m not in the mood for one of your pranks or whatever it is you want,” I tell him. I know he is probably planning some joke at my expense. “Not a prank, I really need help. God this is embarrassing.” He says as he sits down on one of the kitchen chairs. “Are you being serious because you actually look upset?” I say glaring at him. “Yeah, I’m serious, this isn’t easy, but I need help with school. I am having problems with this paper that's due in English class. I have to get a passing grade or I’m in trouble with the team.” He tells me. “You know I’m not smart right? I am decent but not smart, why can't you get one of the smart guys to help you?” I told him. “I can’t, I got a reputation to keep, if I’m seen asking a nerd to help me, no it won’t work out.” He says to me. “Why me, why do you want me to help you?” I ask. “One, we are in the same class and two I know you can keep it a secret.” He sighs and then says “Look, you do this favor, help me with getting this paper written, I can help you. I will tell the guys to lay off teasing you a bit at school.” He says. “Basically you are saying you and your friends will stop bullying and teasing me for a few days if I help you with a paper,” I say to him. “We don’t bully, tease yes, bully no, but yes that is what I’m saying.” He says as he shifts in the chair. “Don’t bully? Yes, you do! The pranks you do like putting spitballs in my hair, that’s bullying, calling me fat, that’s bullying. Besides, if I agree with what you want to be done secretly that even my own brother, who happens to be your best friend can’t know, how do you propose we do this?” I state to him. “Well, I was thinking you could write the paper…” he starts. “Oh no, I’m not writing your paper for you. I do have my own life! I’m not writing your paper!” I’m so mad at him right now! I know he is using me to get this paper written so he can just lounge around and be the God he thinks he is. “Keira, we both know you really don’t have a social life. You only have one friend, you don’t go out, and you mostly stay in your room. So don’t say you have a life because the truth is, you don’t.” Adam states firmly. Trying to hold my tears in from his words. I know he is right. I hated to hear it, but what I said is true. I'm nobody, I don’t have a life. “What’s going on here, why do you feel tense?” Kevin says as he walks in. “Kiera is making that garbage frozen pizza for dinner and I told her it wasn’t healthy. She went off on me.” Adam states standing up. “If you stop eating processed food, you would feel better. Fresh pizza is better than that frozen garbage.” Adam states and turns to leave the room. “Keira…” Kevin starts to say. “Please, don’t. The stupid pizza will be done in a few minutes. Sorry, I thought I was being nice and heating you up one too.” I say holding back the tears. I don’t want anyone to see how all the words that were just said hurt. “You can have the one I heated up for me, I’m suddenly not hungry.” I turn and walk out of the kitchen.
