Chapter 5

The bell rang for the end of class and Keira survived another day of the torments Adam and the soccer team gave her. The school was finally done for the day. Keira I’m starting to walk outside to go home from school when I felt my phone ring. Since I was in class I had it on silent. When I reached for it and saw it was my mom. “Hey, mom, what’s up?” I say into the phone. “Honey, I can’t reach your brother, so you have to tell him, I’m going to be late tonight and you two are on your own for dinner.” My mom works as an administrative assistant for Adam’s dad. When Adam moved here 7 years ago, he not only took Kevin away from me, but his father took my mother as well. My mom works long hours and is never home. When I complain to my mom about Adam and the teasing, she says, not much she can do. Boys will be boys. Then she adds if she goes to her boss about his son, it could get her into trouble. Adam’s influence is everywhere in my life. I just can’t seem to escape the boy. He has taken away everyone that is supposed to care about me. Somehow, they care more about him than me, their own flesh and blood. “Ok, mom, I will let Kevin know,” I told her. “Sweetie, when I do get home tonight, I do need to talk to you and Kevin. So a family meeting around 7:30 tonight, ok?” She states over the phone. “Everything ok?” I ask, usually my mom doesn’t state, we are having a family meeting. “Yes, it's just we need to talk. There is going to be a small change with my work and we need to have a family meeting.” She says, then adds. “ I got to go, please tell Kevin and I will see you tonight at 730, ok, love you bye.” “Ok, love you, bye,” I say, disconnecting the call. Now I have to find Kevin. I know where he is, probably on the soccer field with Adam. Kevin and Adam are the star players for the school soccer team. That’s how they became friends, their love of playing soccer. One day on the soccer field, kicking the ball around was the start of their “bromance.” I got down to the soccer field and saw the guys running drills. I do have to admit my brother is good, he definitely has the athletic ability among the two of us. Me, I trip on my feet just trying to run and kick like that. In peewee soccer I went to all his games. He used to say I was his biggest cheerleader. When Adam came into his life at first, I would go to their games and I actually would cheer for both of them. For the first month after meeting Adam, I thought maybe the three of us were like the 3 musketeers since we did everything together. That only lasted a month then it was just the 2 of them. Shortly after that is when I stopped going to any of Kevin and Adam’s games. Who needed the embarrassing kid sister hanging around the soccer field. That’s what Kevin said, “I was an embarrassment to him.” The coach blows a whistle and the guys all come over to the bench to get some water. Now is my chance, I take a deep breath and go towards the fence near the bench. “Kevin!” I shout over to him, “I need you for a minute.” He looks over at me with a puzzled look. He knows I would not be there if it wasn’t important. I see him talking to Adam then he finally walks over to me. As he gets closer to me he stops suddenly realizing I’m wearing only my tank top and jeans. “Keira, what in the hell are you wearing?” He booms out loud causing the others to turn and look at me. My face gets red from embarrassment from his words and everyone is now gawking at me. “Clothes, please I need to talk to you, it is important,” I say to him. “Who knew the homeless girl actually had melons under that shirt.” I hear one of the guys say. “Shut up Colt, that’s my sister,” Kevin yells and comes over to where I’m standing by the fence. Wait, did Kevin actually tell his friend to shut up? He actually defended me and did not make fun of me? That is new. “What is it?” Kevin asks. “Mom called me, she could not get a hold of you. She is going to be late tonight and we have to get our own dinner, but she also said we are having a family meeting when she gets home at 730 tonight.” I told him. “Is she ok?” He asks, he knows this isn’t a normal thing in this family. “She didn’t say, just hung up quickly,” I told him. Just then Adam strolls up to stand next to Adam and says to him “Kevin, you ok? Its time to get back out there.” “Yeah, I’m good, Kiera, get some clothes on, there are men around here!” He says, as he turns to go back to the field. Adam stayed a second longer, staring, then turned and went back to the field. Why was Adam looking at me? What was that? I guess it is the power of the boobs as Jaime says. I’m not stupid, I know boobs make men go all jello. I also know when you have big boobs you also get made fun of too. I had my fair share of being made fun of for sure. I left the soccer field to head back to my house. —- Adam We are practicing doing some relays with the soccer ball when the coach finally blows the whistle to give us a break. I head over to the soccer bench to get some water with the rest of the team. “Kevin!” I heard someone yelling. I look over to see Kevin’s twin sister Keira waving and saying “I need you for a minute.” Kevin looked over at her and he said to me, “What does she want?” “I don’t know, you better go over to her before one of the guys does,” I told Kevin. He goes over to the fence to talk to her. Taking a swig of water, Colt comes up to me and says, “why is homeless here?” “No idea, maybe she needs to borrow Kevin’s clothes. They might fit her.” “Kevin’s clothing on her would be an improvement over the hefty bags she wears now.” Colt laughed. I smiled, that was one of the pranks Kevin and I pulled on Keira when we were 13. When she started wearing these really huge, oversized tops. We thought since she wore these huge tent-like shirts, she should just wear garbage bags since she looked like a homeless person. Homeless people tend to wear all the clothing that they can get, no matter the size. That’s what it looks like with Keira’s clothes. She wears anything huge she can get. So we stuffed her locker full of different garbage bags with a note that was her new wardrobe. Keira never said anything about it. It was shortly after that prank when the nickname homeless started, and the picking on her about thrift store shopping. 4 years later, she still has the nickname. A couple of the guys make their way over to Kevin to see why he is yelling at his sister. Colt comes back over to the bench laughing “Kevin actually is acknowledging that homeless is his sister. There is no way I would ever admit that out loud to anyone! He has some balls on him.” “I better rescue Kevin. Doesn’t look like the homeless is leaving anytime soon.” I told Colt. I walked up to where Kevin was and said, “Kevin you ok? It is time to get back out there.” “Yeah, I’m good, Kiera, get some clothes on, there are men around here,” Kevin told her. I turned to look at Keira and noticed she wasn’t in her oversized shirt like usual. Why is she in a tank top? No wonder Kevin said she needs to get clothing on. Keira never wears anything like that normally. Kevin turned to leave, but I kept looking at Keira’s tank top. Colt was right, Keira does have nice boobs, she should show them off more. I turn around and catch up with Kevin and ask, “what was that all about?” “Family meeting. Mom needs to talk to us tonight.” Kevin says. “Probably has to be about my dad and a business trip he has to go on. Let’s get back to practice before the coach comes over here.” I told Kevin.
