Bask’s P.O.V
I knew I had to lie when he asked me that because if they knew their concoction didn’t work then they would keep trying until they did and that would be dangerous. I had to play the part and make these dimwits believe that it worked, so I yawned and stretched my whole body, making them think I had just woken up from a deep sleep.
“Hold on, let me try to link you.” I replied and they nodded. I let my eyes glaze over, as if preparing to mind-link, but I didn’t try to communicate with either of them. I didn’t say a single word and then my eyes returned to normal once more.
“Did it work? Did you hear me at all?” I asked, already knowing the answer and they both shook their heads. Idiots.
“No, it didn’t. Alright, time for the next step, try talking to your wolf.” Neville said and I nodded.
“Alina, are you there? Talk to me if you are?” I said out loud so there could be no misunderstanding that I tried.
“I kissed a girl and I liked it….” Alina sang in my head, almost making me burst out laughing when I heard her. I managed to keep calm and keep my expression normal, while both Neville and Giff carefully watched me like a hawk.
“She isn't there, it worked, but how long is this stuff supposed to be in my system for?” I asked, faking worry that I would lose my wolf, when she was still happily singing in my head.
“It's supposed to be in your system for thirty hours, so bear with it, okay.” Giff replied and I let out a breath of relief.
“Okay, that's fine as long as I get my Alina back and I’ll be able to link y’all and the rest of the group, then that's fine. If you don’t mind, I’m still tired from this stuff, so I’m heading up to bed.” I said and they both nodded, smiling brightly like they had achieved some miracle cure.
“Goodnight, Bask, thank you for helping us.” Giff replied as I stumbled to get up from the couch, pretending to still be under the effects of that s**t. Seriously, I deserved an Oscar for my acting skills.
“You're welcome, see y’all in the morning.” I said, waving them off. I knew I had to tell Alpha Mark about all of this straight away, but I still had to act the part because I could feel them still keeping an eye on me. I held onto the handrail as I slowly walked up the stairs, stopping from time to time to make it look as if it was wearing me out, when in all honesty I could have run up them.
“We deserve more than an Oscar, we deserve every award out there, especially for my singing.” Alina said, making me shake my head at her modesty. I finally got to my room and closed the door behind me, finally feeling free to be myself and not the sickly and tired person I had to be in front of them. I walked normally to the bathroom and took a long hot shower, not liking the fact that either of them had to touch me in order to inject me. Just the thought made me shudder. After my shower, I dried off and got dressed, then sat in the chair by the dresser. I hated being in this house, especially as there wasn’t really an Alpha and everyone was always just trying to outdo the other. There was no order here or anything that remotely resembled a pack, but then again it wasn’t a pack. Everyone here was in competition with the person next to them and they would easily kill each other in a heartbeat if it meant they got power, but a pack was family, it was belonging and security, it was more powerful than anything else out there, all except the mate bond. I cleared my mind of everything, trying to make the connection, which was harder because of the distance between us.
“Alpha, they have made wolfsbane, well what they think was wolfsbane and they used it on me, testing it out, but it didn’t work. I had to play along like it did and the idiots bought it. I’m still not sure when they will try it on the girls, but I know we have to start getting ready.” I said, mind-linking Alpha Mark.
“Thank you, Bask. Bonnie and Cindy told me and Sophia a few things about the girl's powers. Well, they didn’t mean to, but let it slip, so in the morning I’ll tell the girls what's going on. We will need to get them training hard. These power seekers will not get them.” Alpha Mark replied, mind-linking me back almost instantly.
“Yes Alpha, if I hear anything else I’ll let you know.” I said, wondering how much training the girls were going to need. I knew that the power seekers were brutal, but they were as thick as pig s**t and that would help.
“Okay, get your sleep, Bask, until then see you soon.” Alpha Mark replied and I ended the link. I got up from the chair and went straight over to my bed, but the whole time I couldn’t take my mind off the girl’s training and everything they would have to do. I wish I was there to see it.
Alpha Mark’s P.O.V
The next morning I called Sophia and Casey into my office, needing to explain what Bask had found out. Jessica was already in here with me and knew what was going on and a few minutes later Casey and Sophia showed up with their mates, Ryan and Guss.
“Take a seat, I have a lot to tell you all and it's important that you listen carefully.” I said and they all took their seats, all except Jessica who was standing beside me with her hand on my shoulder, calming me for the upcoming conversation. She had to calm me last night after Bask mind-linked me otherwise I think I would have gone and killed all of them with how angry I was. No one touches my sweetheart, not now, not ever and not anyone else that she loves either.
“What's going on, dad? This sounds serious.” Sophia asked and I nodded.
“It is and it involves both you and Casey. Have you told her everything your mo...Bonnie and Cindy said in the cells?” I asked, correcting myself from calling Bonnie her mother. Sophia made it clear when she rejected their bond that Bonnie was no longer her mother, but I still didn’t know how she felt about calling her mother or if she preferred Bonnie instead.
“Yes, I have told Casey everything Bonnie said. It's okay for me to call her Bonnie, I broke our bond and after what she did to not only me, but you, Jessica and Casey, she no longer deserves the title of my mother. No mother would do that to her child and then lie about it all.” Sophia replied, her voice dripping with venom when she spoke of her. It made me sad that my daughter was hurting like this because the one person she was meant to trust betrayed her and hurt her, but at least now I knew where she stood on what to refer to Bonnie as.
“Okay, as you wish. Listen girls, we don't know how much time we have, but we have power seekers coming for you both…” I started to say, but Ryan and Guss cut me off.
“What? How do you know this?” Ryan and Guss asked, pulling Sophia and Casey closer to them. I knew they wanted to protect them and I understood that completely because so did I.
“Just trust me on this, please. We need to see if you two have these powers that people keep saying you have and we need to figure out just how powerful you are. Let's head outside and figure this all out. We will go to the secluded part of the territory, by the lake, so no one will see what we are doing, okay?” I asked and they all nodded. I could sense their mates were still a little cautious about all of this, but I could also sense the trust they had in me and they both knew I would never let anything happen to Sophia or Casey. We all headed outside and as soon as we did we walked towards the lake, so the girls wouldn’t blow anything up, like one of the cabins or the pack house. The training ground would have been a good enough spot, but there were pack members there and until the girls could control their powers, if they had them that is it would be best to train away from everyone. We finally reached the lake and I turned to face Sophia and Casey, who both looked a little nervous.
“Okay Sophia, let's see if you can blow up that stump over there. You see it, right by the lake and still stuck in the ground?” I asked, pointing to the one I was talking about and she nodded. Sophia stepped forward, but looked unsure on what she was supposed to do.
Sophia’s P.O.V
I had no idea how I was meant to do this or if I was meant to say something to kick start it. This was just nuts, I don’t have any of these so-called powers, but I’ll humour my father. Bonnie and Cindy said that I could control fire and ice, but how was I supposed to do that?
“Okay, lets see what you can do, just take your time, take a few deep breaths and see what feels natural to you.” My dad said and I nodded, doing what he suggested. I took a few deep slow breaths and I could feel something stirring inside me, but I had no idea what it was or how I was supposed to react to it. I kept all of my focus on the stump, staring at it as hard as I could, but then I felt the urge to speak.
“Fire…..fire…..fire….” I whispered over and over again. I did this a few times and nothing happened, but the feeling inside me kept growing so I carried on.
“Fire…” I whispered, putting all my energy behind it and then BOOM!!!! The stump exploded, making the ground shake as it did so and sent all of us flying back. The explosion was so loud that when all the pack members heard it they came out, wondering what was going on.
Alpha Mark’s P.O.V
The sheer force of the blast sent us all flying backwards, but once we had gained our bearings and got back up I turned to look at Sophia, who had a look of pure shock on her face. She looked at me and all I could do was smile at her with pride covering my whole face and eyes. I knew she didn’t believe it, hell I didn’t believe it, but when the power seekers made it clear that they did it gave me doubts and this proved everything was true.
“Okay Sophia, do you think you can do ice now?” I asked, but she still looked a little shocked.
