Maya's Point of view The party was okay, but I left before everyone went for the run. I could have stayed, but what was the point. Elijah hated me. Since my parents had to stay for the run, I walked home. My dad wanted to walk me, but mom convinced him to let me walk alone. Nothing happened, and I texted mom when I got home safe and sound. I tried to wait up for them, but sleep overcame me. I didn't even hear my parents come in the door, but I knew it would be late when they did. From what I have been told, shifting for the first time can take a while. A run can take about another thirty minutes. I didn't expect my parents home till two in the morning. When I woke up, my mom was asleep, but my dad was gone. He left a note saying he had training and a meeting with the alpha. Even though I am a human, I knew something is wrong. My dad has been acting weird and even more protective than usual. I hated being out of the loop. As the weekend flew by and Sunday turned into Monday, I feared what Elijah would do to me. Mom told me he didn't find his mate and was not happy about it. I knew he would take it out on me. Even though it was warm outside, I made sure to pack a sweater to hide the marks. My parents don't question what I wear because I am a human, and my body responds to the climate differently. As I walked into the school building, I could hear people talking about the party. I hadn't seen Liv all weekend and couldn't wait to see her. I walked up to my locker, and as I was putting my stuff away, I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned my head to see who it was, and my heart fell. It was Elijah. His eyes were pitch black, and I will admit I was scared. "Come with me," He said in a gruff voice. I nodded my head, closed my locker, and looked down as I followed him. I could hear people laughing and whispering. They knew he was not happy about not finding his mate and how much he hates humans. We walked into an empty classroom, and he shut the door. My heart was pounding, and I could feel the fear rise inside of me. He has always harmed me in front of everyone but not in private. What would he do? I felt tears pool in my eyes, and all of a sudden, I felt Elijah grab me and hug me. "Do not fear me, little mate," He whispered in my ear. I pulled back and looked at him. His wolf was in charge, and I knew the moment Elijah returned, he would reject me. "You hate humans," I said. "My human is stupid. I want you beautiful," He said as he put his hand on my cheek and looked at me with love. "What is your name?" "Bryson," He said as he pulled me closer to him and smelled me again. We stood in each other's embrace for a while, and all of a sudden, I pushed back. "How dare you f*cking touch me," Elijah screamed. My butt hit the floor with a loud thud. I knew Bryson was gone. "What a joke," He said as he walked closer to me. He grabbed the front of my shirt and pulled me up. "The moon goddess must be playing with me. I will never take you as my mate," And then he let go of my shirt, causing me to fall again. He left the room, and I sat there and cried for a moment. How could I be paired with a wolf. Wolves didn't mate with humans, and now I have a wolf who hates humans as a soulmate. I wiped the tears from my face and got up. I walked to my class, and even though I was late, my teacher didn't say anything. Everyone knew how much Elijah hated me. I have not seen Liv Friday, and I haven't heard from her. She wasn't at school today either, and I was hoping to talk to her about what happened. As I entered the lunchroom and began to select what I would be eating, I heard cheers and catcalls. I looked in the direction of the commotion, and there was my mate making out with a girl. I felt a pang in my heart, and when he pulled away from her, he looked at he and smirked. I looked down, and once I was done grabbing my lunch, I walked outside and ate under a tree. As the weeks went by, Elijah didn't come near me. Instead, he would make out with his girlfriend Beth whenever I was around. Beth was just like him but worse. They both hated humans, and whenever Beth could get me alone, she would hit me. Today was my fifteenth birthday, and I have felt off all day. Something was going to happen, I knew it, but I wasn't sure what. As I sat at the table in the lunchroom with Liv, I began to eat my salad. I tried not to pay attention to Elijah and Beth kissing, but it was hard. I might not be a wolf but knowing he is my mate and cheating on me hurt. I couldn't imagine being a wolf and feeling the pull. I would be a mess. "Everyone, I have an announcement," Elijah said as he stood up on a table. Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked at him. "I have decided to take a chosen mate, and next weekend we will be having a mating ceremony for Beth and me." People began to cheer, and I just looked at him. As he grabbed Beth and kissed her, I stood up and left the lunchroom. I needed to leave. I ran out of the school and into the woods. When I was far enough away, I fell to the ground and began to cry. As I cried, the sky turned dark, and the wind began to blow. Thunder started to rumble in the sky, and as I stood up, a bolt of lightning hit me. I didn't feel any pain, but instead, I felt a surge of power form inside of me. Something inside of me clicked, and for the first time in my life, I knew who I was.
