CHAPTER THREE. Little Red. An hour later. 2:30a.m. "Do you live alone?" I question, trying my best to hold half his body weight as I climb the steps to his apartment. "My keys are in my right pocket." I hesitate before shoving my hand into his pocket, I pull the keys out and quickly unlock the door, kicking it closed behind me. I spot the couch and try to lay him down gently. " f**k!" He shouts. "I'm being as gentle as I can Grey." I explain softly. "Where's your room?" "Down the hall." I grab the doorknob to the first door I see and push the door open. "WHAT THE HELL!" A guy screams hopping out of bed with a bat. He charges at me, I dodge him as he hits a tv stand, knocking down the shelves and everything on them. I kick the guy in the gut and run out of the room. "MARKUS!" Wolfie shouts. The guy stops in his tracks and looks down at Wolfie. "Wolfie? What happened?" "I was stabbed you idiot." "Who's the chick?" "Edie." I tell him, "I'm Edie. Who are you?" "Markus, I'm Wolfie's brother." "I'm sorry, I thought that was his room." He walks into a bedroom and comes out seconds later. "Who stabbed you?" "No one." "Don't be a douche Wolfie, just f*****g tell me!" "This can wait for later!" I push past Markus and slowly open the door to Wolfie's room. I walk over to his dresser and pull out a plain t-shirt and black joggers. I close the door behind me and stumble down the hallway. As I reach the peak of the hallway, I stop and listen to what their saying. "This isn't my fault Wolfie, you shouldn't have been in that part of town, especially this late at night!" "Markus, if you hadn't taken that job then my ass wouldn't have been stabbed. Just go back to bed and leave me the hell alone." "Why did you get this girl into our s**t?! If they find out about her.... you know what they'll do." Markus whispers. "f**k off!" Wolfie growls. I walk around the couch and glance at both of them. I bend down next to Wolfie, "Lift your arms." "Why?" "Just do it." He lifts his arms, I grab the hem of his shirt and pull it off. "I brought you a shirt and some sweats. You probably want to change since your clothes are covered in blood." "A please would have been nice." "Yeah, well so would have a thank you for saving your heavy ass." Markus snorts, "Good luck trying to get that outta him. He's a stubborn little bitch." Wolfie Sits up straight, "Go be a d**k somewhere else." Markus rolls his eyes and crosses his arms over his bare chest. "Yeah, I'm the dick." "Can you two just cool it?" I huff, raking my fingers through my dark, knotted, hair. "Your bickering is giving me a headache." They both glare at each other before Markus walks off to his room. I wander into the kitchen and search for two cups, after looking in the fifth cabinet I find them. I pour some cold water into them, handing one to Wolfie. "Here, you need to drink lots of water." His hand wraps around the cup, his hazel blue eyes linger into mine for a moment. "Why did you help me?" I shrug and take a sip of my water, "I don't know." "You shouldn't be going into downtown Blackstone Pines alone, especially late at night." "Technically It's morning." An exasperated sigh leaves his lips. "Whatever. Why did you help me?" "I just saw a person who needed help." I explain, taking a seat next to him. "I could have been a rapist or murderer." "Well you weren't. I knew it was you, I saw you walking down the sidewalk. I knew you go to the same school as I do. I couldn't just leave you to bleed out." He groans softly and places his hand over his wound, blood seeping down his side. "Let me change that. Lay back down." He does as I tell him. I pull off the cotton pad and gauze, and replace it with a fresh, new set. I quickly toss it all into the trash can and wash my hands. I look down at my blood soaked clothes and walk back towards the couch. "Uh Grey, I think I'm gonna head out, just keep some pressure applied to that." I point. I grab my bloody plaid shirt and head for the door. "Where do you think your going, Red?" "Home?" "No, you can stay in bed for the night." I rub my bare shoulder and gaze at him, he runs his fingers through his messy, wavy, dark hair. My eyes scatter to his bare chest, the dude is ripped, most high schoolers aren't nearly as muscular as this guy. I pull my eyes away before he notices me staring. "I think I can manage." He rolls off the couch and prowls up to me like Im prey, "I don't think so Red. It's late." I place my hand on my hip and look up at him. "I've done it a million times, Wolfie. I'm an adult." I grab the door knob and pull the door open. He places his hand above me on the door, slamming it shut. "It's dangerous, especially at night. You can sleep on my bed for the night." I feel my heart rate rise as to how close we are. I tuck my hair behind my ear and nod, "Uh... okay." My head falls as I fiddle with my fingers, "Thanks... I guess." The lock clicks, he walks back over to the couch and falls onto the cushions, laying his head on the pillow. I walk into his room and grab one of the few blankets on his bed, I hand him a blanket before walking back into his room, closing the door behind me. ******* I hear something loud buzz viciously, I flick my tired eyes open and glance at my phone in the vacant pillow beside me. I squint at the insanely bright screen and see that Dani is calling me. I slide the button and place my phone next to my ear. "Hello?" I croak. "Hey Edie, Clayton and I have been calling you since seven, where are you? Are you coming into school?" She asks quietly. I look at the time in my phone, it reads 8:42a.m. "s**t! Yeah I gotta go." I click the end button ad shove my phone into my back pocket. My dads going to kill me. I just hope that when I head home to change that he's left for work. I tiptoe down the hallway and see a drooling Wolfie sleeping peacefully on the couch. I quietly open the door and jog down the apartment steps. After about thirty minutes of jogging home I approach my front porch. I quietly close the large door. My dad rounds the kitchen corner, he stomps up to me, raising his hand and smacking me full force across the face, causing my head to slam against the mirror on the wall, shattering the mirror. I gasp in pain and slowly pull my face away from the mirror, little pieces of glass embedded into my skin. I glance behind my dad and see my mom and little brother Oaklin playing in the backyard. My dad shoves me back into the mirror before exiting through the front door. I slowly reach my hand to my cheek, barely touching the glass I hiss in pain. I walk into the bathroom and see blood dripping down my face, I grab the tweezers and pull the glass out of my skin. ******* I push open the glass school door and stroll down the overfilled hallway. I spot Clay at his locker, looking in my direction. His jaw tighten and his hands ball into fists. I feel a pair of large hands wrap around my arm, yanking me away from the crowd and through the doors of an empty, unused hallway. "What the f**k happened to your face?!" Wolfie inquires, demanding an answer. I look away from him, "Nothing." "Come on Red, don't playing that bullshit card. When you left my place did someone do this?" I shake my head and stay silent. "Tell me the truth." "I have class to get to." I inform him and walk towards the door. "Edie!" He roars, "Just tell me what the f**k happened." "Hey if you wouldn't tell me who the hell stabbed you, then I'm not going to tell you anything, Wolfie, it's not just a one way street." "If I told you, then your life is going to be hell." "My life already is hell." ~*~
