The Big Bad Wolf. Chapter One.
CHAPTER ONE. The Big Bad Wolf
Wednesday, 11:13p.m.
"It's all clear!" Clayton exclaims, he lays on his chest and reaches his hand down, "Okay grab my hand."
I jump up the side of the building and grab his hand, he grabs my wrist with his other hand and hoists me onto the roof. We stand to our feet, I place the black duffel bag on the ground and toss a can of spray paint in Clay's direction, without a doubt he catches it.
"Where the hell is Dani?" I inquire, tossing my hair over my shoulder.
He shrugs his broad shoulders, tugging the lid off the can, "How the hell should I know? We have both texted her almost an hour ago, with no response. I'm just as clueless as you."
I pull a can of neon orange spray paint out and elbow him in the side. "That doesn't mean you have to be an ass about it."
A puff of air makes its way out of his mouth, he tries to say something but only wheezes. "Ouch!"
I grin, " Dude keep your voice down."
"Who would hear us?" He questions, keeping his eyes on whatever he's painting.
"Clay, you know there's a good chance that someone can find us, we've been arrested four times because you can't keep your big mouth closed."
He raises his hand and moves it as if it's talking. "Yeah yeah yeah, like I haven't heard this speech before. I don't need another lecture from you."
I roll my eyes and turn back to my side of the wall. "Obviously not."
"Don't be such a smart ass Edie."
"It's in my blood."
He chuckles, "Yeah absolutely, I do not doubt that."
About thirty minutes pass without us saying a word to each other. I toss my empty spray can on the ground next to Clay's empty cans. I quickly grab us both a random color, "So," I tuck my straightened hair behind my ear, "I was going to ask Dani, but since she isn't here."
He glances over at me with a small smile, "Shoot."
"Could I possibly spend the night?"
"Of course." He nods. "I take it that your dads back home?"
"Uh yeah... He got back home last night."
"Okay let's see it." He crosses his arms over his chest.
I push my sleeve up to my elbow and show him a new cigarette and bruise mark.
His jaw tightens, he turns away from me and takes a few deep breaths. "Edie, you never need to ask to spend the night. You can just drop by and we'll be waiting with our arms wide open. You've spent the night probably at least a million times already. You're part of the family."
"Thanks Clay... I appreciate it."
"Edie."
I look up into his vibrant blue eyes, "Yeah?"
"You know your beautiful... scars and all. I get why you hide them, but, I just want you to know that you don't have too."
" Um... yeah, I know."
He grins, "Scars are hot!"
"Yup and you ruined the moment."
He chuckles and grabs my arm, pulling me into a warm embrace. "I'm kidding."
I grin and wrap my arms around his back. "No your not."
"Your right, I'm not." He snickers, "I know that they will remind you off all the bad memories, but they do remind you of how far you've come."
"You know for being such a nutcase, you know what to say. Except for when you say something weird and ruin the moment."
"Hello? Is somebody there?" A deep voice calls out.
Clay and I scramble to shove all the cans back into the bag. He slings the bag over his shoulder and we run and hide behind a giant AC-Unit.
"Do you think he saw us?" He whispers.
"I don't know but shut up!" I whisper yell.
Clay moves and hits me in the face with the bag of cans, making a loud clank.
"Ow my God!" I whisper and hit his shoulder lightly.
"Come out with your hands up!" The person shouts.
Clay and I glance at each other, we both slowly stand up.
The man glares at us, "Keep your hands where I can see them!" He demands. "Put the bag on the ground."
Clayton does as he told.
"Hands behind your back, I'm taking you in for trespassing on private property and vandalism."

1:00a.m.
Clay sighs as he takes a seat next to me on the cold, metal, bench. "Well, Dani didn't answer."
"Figures." I lift my head off the bench and sit up straight.
"Edie, your going to have to call your mom. We knows she'll answer." He informs me.
"I can't call her. I'm going to be in so much deep s**t, Clay."
He places his hand on my knee, fiddling with distressed strings. "I know, I know. But we have no other choice."
"Fine." I grumble and push myself off the bench. I walk to the front bars, "I'm ready to make my call."
He nods and unlocks the gate, sliding it closed behind me. He places a quarter in the palm of my hand. I slip it into the slot and dial my moms cellphone.
After about three rings I hear yawning on the other end. "Hello?"
"Dad?"
He groans, "Edie? Where the f**k are you?!"
I gaze at Clay briefly, turning my head away from his direction before he notices me staring. "I'm...I'm at the police station."
"For fucksakes Edie! What the actual hell is wrong with you? Are you seriously that idiotic? I never knew how stupid a person could be."
"Um, can I please talk to mom?"
"Beatrix get your fat ass outta bed and go pick up your brainless daughter... I don't know she probably got arrested for whoring around...she's a slut-" The call ends, I assume he hung up like usual.
The police officer walks me back into the cell.
"So? How'd it go?"
"My dad answered."
"Oh God..." he grabs my arm and pulls me down next to him. "I'm sorry Edie. I shouldn't have made you call."
"Clay, stop, I needed to call."
"I'm Sor-" He touches my arm and I bat his hand away.
"I don't need your sympathy."
He pulls his hand away and stays silent.
"I..I'm sorry Clay-"
"It's okay Edie, I get it."
Almost an hour flys by.
"Edie Morgen and Clayton Froth." A police officer asks.
We both stand up and walk towards him. "That's us."
He nods and unlocks the gate. "Mrs. Morgen is here for your bail."
We walk towards the front office in silence. I see my mom standing by the door, tapping her foot impatiently with her arms crossed.
She shoots us a disapproving look. "I can not believe you two!" She clucks as we exit the police station. "This is the fifth time! I am not always going to be here to bail you two out! It's time you start growing up!" She huffs, pulling her car keys out of her jacket pocket. "Of all the nights to pull this crap you just had to do it while your father is home. He is very angry, Edie."
"Sorry mom..."

Monday, 8:34a.m.
I adjust my earbuds and turn my music to full volume, opening my plain orange locker. I glance at a picture of Clay and I back in seventh grade, held by two flimsy black and white magnets, and at another one of Clay, Dani, and I, taken last year at the yearly festival. I grab two enormous textbooks and shove them into my bag. My earbuds yank away from my ears, causing me to circle around on my heels.
"Dani? Why did you do that?"
She smiles, "I was talking to you and realized you weren't listening."
I grab my earbuds from her hand and place them into my bag. "Where the hell were you last night?"
"I got caught up."
I roll my eyes, "What were you doing?"
She giggles, "You mean who was I doing?"
I shake my head, "Ew, no!"
"Well to answer your question-"
"I didn't ask." I grumble.
"Eugene Theler."
"Just shut up Dani. I do not want to hear about your s*x life."
"But friends are supposed to tell each other these things." She explains in hopes that I'll let her tell me.
"Yeah well I'm not the friend to tell." I slam my locker shut.
"Yo what the hell Dani!" Clay exclaims, walking through the school doors. As Clay approach us she pushes him out of the way to watch Wolfie Grey walk through the door, her mouth drops and her eyes widen.
"This is weird..." I murmur. "I don't see what you see in that guy."
"Yeah neither do I, he's a major dickwad. You kinda look like an anime character when you gush over him like that."
She slaps him in the chest and scoffs. "Every girl loves him and every guy fears him. That's why he's the Big Bad Wolf, well and he has a Wolf tattoo." She tells us.
"And his name is Wolfie." I point out the obvious.
Clay chuckles, "He looks like a Wookiee."
Dani raises her eyebrows. "A what?"
"Wookiee... from Starwars."
"Okay?"
"They're little hairy creatures that-oh just forget it, I don't know why I bother."
I snicker and pat his back, "I don't know why either."
