Fateful Marriage

Engaged??

Matthew stood in front of his parents waiting to find out what the hell was going on. He was threatened to come here by his father as a chance to make it up for his past mistakes. The only thing he was not expecting was to be called on stage along with a shocked Lira by her grandfather and my parents.

We weren't even given a chance to voice our opinions before the media started taking pictures and a huge applause erupted. I was shoved next to Lira who looked like she was about to faint. I knew the moment i saw the expression on her face that she was also blindsided by this. I know my parents don't like my girlfriend but i never expected to pull this stunt.

I looked over at Sarah to see if she had any clue and she shook her head. I remember her telling me that our parents were acting weird a month ago but i never took it seriously. Thank God Jess isn't here or she would be heartbroken. She's been trying her level best to impress my mother but my mom pays no head towards me or her. The last time my mom took the initiative to talk to me was more two years ago.

She only said congratulations to me on my graduation day. My dad fully supports her in this and only talks to me when necessary. My maternal family have also started to distance themselves from me after the whole incident. I get that i was in the wrong but something about this tells me that i may have scratched on a taboo.

They still acknowledge me but i noticed the difference in their behavior. Sarah is still treated the same by my grandfather, i on the other hand became the black sheep of the family. There's a rule in the hunter family that we can only marry one wife in our entire life and that we treat women with respect. I knew that but i still targeted Lira.

I've come to realize that i was lied to by my former best friend Payton. In order to find Lira, i had to investigate her. i didn't like what I had found especially in regards to our group of friends's treatment towards her. She had a rough child hood and the worst part is that she didn't even get to see her parents since birth.

I felt bad for all those comments i had made when i thought she was an illegitimate child of Jones family. Turns out she was not and the daughter of the legendary Patrick Jones, the second son of Mr Thomas Jones. He was a genius just like his daughter, not much is known about him except that he's a war hero and celebrated by the country.

Lira's mother was the number one beauty in country B and a musical prodigy. Lira takes after her. Even when she was chubby, she was still cute and likeable, her features started to show after she started loosing weight. I felt my nose bleed as soon as i saw Lira tonight and all the sleepless night i had due to all the dreams i had about her.

Lira and i were locked inside a honeymoon suite after the party ended to talk it out, She's been in a daze ever since. She turned off all the candles when she noticed a weird smell. I wanted to ask but the look on her face said it all. I sighed before sitting down on the sofa opposite her. And yes we both noticed the hidden cameras.

We are from old money and trained since childhood on these things. I shook my head wondering what my parents were thinking. Lira had just turned 16 and although i still remember that night a year back, i don't think she does. She said that it was a mistake and pretended that it never happened on the letter she had left behind. I would have thought that it was a dream if it wasn't for the torn clothes and the red stain.

I have also never been able to be intimate with Jess because of that. My body can only think of her. You have no idea how embarrassing it was when it still remained soft. I made an excuse to wait till we get married and thankfully Jess didn't pursue it. I am hard as a rock at this moment and i don't know where to put my hands. It's so embarrassing.

" They already got us married, didn't they?" Lira asked. Her voice worsened my situation. I don't know why my body reacts this way.

" They wouldn't!" i said.

" The legal age in this country is 16 with a consent from a guardian. They locked us in a honeymoon room with candles full of that drug. My gramps is in possition of my legal documents since i arrived here a day ago." she said helplessly.

" Did you know about the engagement?" i couldn't help but ask.

" I knew about the intention but i didn't think he'll choose you of all people." she said with a frown. I could see disgust in her eyes making my heart break into pieces.

" What are we going to do?" i asked knowing how my family is. There is no possibility of me getting married to Jess at this point unless I cut off all ties from the Hunter family.

" Wait for two years so i can file for divorce.

" There is no divorce in my family and we can only marry one wife regardless." i said panicking for some reason.

" I'm going to take a shower. They won't let us out until the legal time for annullement is over." she said secretly motioning towards the blinking camera. I got her massage. I looked over to the my suitcase that was supposed to be at the suite two floors down. They are probably talking about countermeasures for what we are talking about.

There's no escape route for us. I know the locks and security system since they were designed by older cousin. They are as strong as a prison cell. Of only i had my computer or phone with me. I know i won't find any electronic devices in here. I guess we are stuck here for however long they decide. It will give me time to talk to Lira and apologize for everything i did to her.

" Do you think they will get along?" Thomas Jones asked the old man next to him.

" I saw how my silly grandson looked at her. They have to take responsibility for what they had done a year ago. They have no choice, that Jessica is that woman's daughter. She already has her people in my company" the old man shook his head disappointed at his grandson.

" We can't protect them forever. That old sow was here tonight" Thomas said making the old man quickly turn his head.

" I thought they didn't want anything to do with her" old man Hunter said.

" Not when she is the sole heir of my son and daughter in law. Their family has been downgraded ever since the old man died. They doted on their other daughter and i heard she and her husband are gambling addicts. Thank God my late daughter in law was raised by her maternal family" Thomas said.

" Well, they have the same thing in common. My son's mistake is trying hard to get in the family." old man Hunter said.

" Have you done a DNA test?" Thomas asked.

" I did, he's not my offspring as expected but the first test results came back positive. The only one who could do that is my wife, I think he's the child of her secret daughter. She hates my daughter in law. They can handle their issues, i want to know who else has been after my family. I've groomed this silly boy and he can protect Lira. Have you told her the truth?" Liam Hunter asked his old time friend.

" I didn't have to, She has my wife and my daughter in law's brain. She probably figured it out ages ago. The only thing i can do is to be there for her to, to protect her for as long as i can. Hopefully we'll receive grand kids in a few years." Thomas said with a laugh.

" Now we have to figure out who sent Jessica and the boy who's been trying to get close to our darling Lira. James and Matthew will protect her." Liam said after laughing.

" There you guys are. And there's no need to check who sent them. Who else but that lunatic would send them? He's broke and wants revenge. Don't forget how ambitious he is." James grandfather said after hearing what Liam said.

" Where were you been?" Thomas asked.

" Checking up on my grandson. That pretty boy messed him up and i don't want him to make a mistake." old man Grey said.

" What are you going to do next?" old man Hunter asked.

" James is my only grandson. I guess we'll have a surrogate as a last resort and i still have my grand daughter as a back up. If only she stops the nonsense she's been doing. I kinda wish my family had rules like yours Hunter, look at how disappointing my son is. He is going to be a father again with a woman younger than his son. He's been married for four times now. There's nothing i can do to mend James' s relationship with his father considering how he messed up his mother's life." old man Grey said.

" Let's play chess, my granddaughter will just ignore us. There's nothing i can do if she wants to break out of there. We'll have a wedding ceremony for them in three years whether they like it or not." old man Jones said making the other two laugh. The three old man continued to plan their grandkids's lives without them knowing.
