Fateful Marriage

Engaged

I've never been so overwhelmed like i am at this moment. When James told me that the old man was organizing an engagement party, i thought that it was just a minor issue. I went through with the graduation ceremony, gave a speech that day in front of my teachers and classmates knowing full well that i was the youngest there.

I don't even know how i got through it but i did. Just when i thought that i could relax a bit the following day, the old man woke me up around midnight so we don't miss our flight. I was shook. He was acting kinda shady as if he is afraid of something. I didn't even have time to think about it with how rushed i was.

All my things were already packed and we headed towards the airport. I didn't even have the chance to day goodbye to James and Page. I just sent them a text before we boarded the private jet. I fell asleep on route and woke up in an unfamiliar room. This place looks familiar as if I've been here before but i can't remember any of it.

Grandpa was behaving weird since we got here. The only thing he does is sigh the whole time as if he was thinking about something very important. I was jetlagged and tired from all the work i did during the graduation ceremony. I slept the whole day and that was the biggest mistake I've done since i got here after not listening to James.

I was woken up by my nanny to wash up before a team of stylists came and i was all dolled up in a simple white dress. I got down to find almost two hundred people inside the huge ballroom in the outer building surrounded by the greenery. Everyone kept saying congratulations to me which was weird. I thought they were talking about my graduation as i went to find my grandfather.

There on the stage was Sarah whom i haven't seen in a long time looking as confused as i am. She gave me a huge hug as soon as she saw me. We talked for a while waiting for my grandfather. There's a huge banner written happy graduation Lira. She told me that her parents picked her up from her varsity here in country B without telling her the reason. She was sent to a stylist and dolled up.

James arrived at some point and we couldn't help but laugh at Sarah's star struck look as soon as she saw him. I should probably tell you but James is only 18. He was also part of young gifted class along with Page. He looks way better than celebrities due to his mixed genes. Page is 20. Everything was going great until i spotted Matthew walking in with grandpa and his parents. The party started great until the speeches started.

" I thought you wanted to stay and enjoy the feeling of being a high school student" I asked page after we sat down at the table next to the main.

" You and Mac left and I was all alone with bootlickers. I decided to skip after Mac left and just graduated a few months ago after a gruesome tutorial from my good for nothing brother." she said.

" That is a great choice. High school is overrated anyway." James said.

" Have you found out about my potential husband?" i asked James.

" What potential husband?" Sarah asked.

" My grandfather is arranging my marriage without my knowledge. I think he's planning to announce it today." i replied.

" That's weird. My parents are doing the same with me and my brother." she said.

" You guys aren't the only one. My gramps was planning on doing the same thing with me. I promised to give him at least three heirs so i can have freedom with my marriage or choice of partner." James said.

" A tube baby?" i asked

" He prefers a more traditional and socially acceptable route but he will take what he can get" James replied with a laugh.

" If we only had that option" Sarah said.

" I can't say no to grandfather due to his health but the only thing i can do at this moment is to stall for time and convince the other person to be the bad guy " I said with a smile making them laugh.

" What's with elders using their health as a bargaining chip?" James said.

" My grandmother is currently doing the same except she chose a really abnormal woman causing my parents to take matters into their own hands. Sometimes i wish i was born in a normal family. At least my family doesn't need to sacrifice their children's well-being as part of a business transaction. The only questionable thing is why my parents are chosing to arrange us all of the sudden?" Sarah asked.

" I think i have a pre birth engagement made by my late parents but i don't know the groom is nor do i desire to know the truth. I heard it was to protect both children. I'm hoping to use that as a leverage. I can only use the engagement as a way to keep flies away until i decide to get married or meet the one for me." i said.

" I figured with how you reacted when i gave you the heads up days ago. I would have done the same if it wasn't for everyone knowing my sexuality." James said.

" That is a great plan" Sarah said with a laugh.

" I wish" I replied making the both of look at me at the same time.

" What do you mean" James asked.

" Well, the legal age in country B is 16 and i literally dragged here right after my graduation. I am guessing the wedding isn't too far from here. There is something wrong with my grandfather these past few weeks. He's anxious to protect me. The number of guards around me keep increasing and the only reason i could think of why he would marry his precious baby girl away is to protect her. " I said with a bitter smile.

" That may be true." Sarah said.

" Something big happened and they are trying to protect us and their legacy " James said what all of us were thinking.

" Everyone I'd like to introduce you to my granddaughter Lira, an honor student." my grandfather said on the stage motioning for me to go towards the stage. These two gave me a look.

" I and my good friend Old man Hunter made an arrangement when we were young to have our eldest kids married so that us as sworn brothers become family. Sadly none of our kids wanted to and there is also the fact that they were all male. His son and my son grew up as best friends and ironic enough, they both became sworn brothers. Their wives decided after they met that if their first children were a boy and a girl, they would be engaged. We are both old and my son isn't here. We have decided to announce Matthew and Lira 's engagement after the elders from both families agreed." The old man said and i had trouble standing up when i heard the name.

I don't even know when Matthew arrived but he was able to help me stand. I was looking at the old man to see if i had missed any point in regards to his health. I was dumbfounded!! Of any of the guys in the world why choose Matthew?? He knows how much this scumbag hurt me so why this!?!??.
