The Irony of it all

1611 Words
Lira's pov It's been three years since i left country A with my wonderful grandfather. I can't say i miss it though. Tomorrow is my graduation ceremony for my masters degrees after a gruesome study in the number one varsity globally. I wanted to enjoy a normal college period but it all got so boring fast despite being in the most advance classes. I managed to graduate in my first year out of boredom and to prove a point to a know it all professor who had it out for me since day one. I then thought that it would be best if i get it over and done with while i am at it. My grandfather's health was getting worse day by day and i wanted to take care of him. I enrolled myself into business classes to keep myself busy and had grandpa teach me most of the stuff i didn't understand. The doctor treating him is college professor and mentor so things were a little easier. Let's just say that i didn't have a day to myself for the whole three years. Everyday was focused on school, hospital and grandpa' s company. I also had to take care of the Luck Group that has been growing exponentially all these years thanks to all of our efforts. I haven't seen them since we are all in different countries which helped protect us from my uncle who is determined to make our lives a living hell. I'd like to complain all day but it was worth living for. I felt alive with every minute spent working. All the depression went away just like that along with my insecurities. I felt more confident in myself now with all that's been happening in my life. It was like starting a new life and forgetting about all the things that happened in the past. I do keep track of what's going on back in country A. Gramps taught me that you can never relax your vigilance towards those people who want to harm you. Everything went downhill for my uncle's family after we left that country after my early graduation. Tommy was sent to see a psychiatrist after he was found playing with dead animals. You would think that my uncle would take a hint from this and send him to get treated but no. They found it as a perfect excuse for him to skip juvenile for most the charges against him. I wanted peace for grandpa so i let it go. Payton on the other hand became a celebrity a year after my departure after successfully " auditioning" for a second female lead in a teen drama. I wasn't surprised when all that damage to her image was cleaned up after the prank. Grandpa and i have always suspected that there was someone behind them. Uncle started a new business on his own that grew up very quickly compared to the normal rate of a new starter family. We continued our lives without minding them. Everyone including Mackenzie fled to different countries and played the kids in college image. Our lives have never been so peaceful. Mackenzie is a finance prodigy, Finn decided to hide the fact that he is the CEO of Scarlet Entertainment and enter the entertainment industry himself. He's now a world renowned musician in country M and an international best new comer in the movie industry. Mason got interested in martial arts and enrolled in the army. We were all surprised with his choice right after graduation. We know he did it to protect us and himself. He became a target of his brother when he graduated first in his class. Our commander Pete recommended him. He's been doing well for himself. That's also the reason why i have so much on my plate. Someone has been messing with grandpa's company. Many problems started along with various accidents keep happening. I don't know who is after us nor which direction to look for. The old man on the other hand has a suspect in his mind but refuses to tell me. Aunt Quinn has been trying to reach out to me for some reason. I heard that they've been pretending to care about me back home and Payton seem ' guilty' in regards to how she treated me. How ironic. The only problem is that she can't find me. I don't think i will go back to that country anytime soon. I just checked everything for our trip to country B in two days. As much as i want to stay here, grandpa's matters come first. I just turned 16 a few months ago and the old man wants to hold the coming of age party in country B where my parents estate is at. That place technically belongs to me but i couldn't bring myself to go there. Grandpa surprised me when he said that we'd be staying there in a week. He told me that four days ago. I don't understand him sometimes. He's been doing great since we got here and his social life was thriving. There is no reason why he would suddenly want to leave. His headquarters is indeed in country B. The only weird thing since i got here was the constant gift packages from Libby, Matthew's mother. She never asked me to forgive her son and the only thing written on the gift cards were about my well being and weird motivational quotes. I did call her and we talked. i did tell her that it is okay and for her to stop sending me gifts but she does it anyway. She is a very nice person. It makes me wonder how she gave birth to that kind of son. Matthew is now a star athlete. He's part of the national basketball and football team. He stays with his grandfather in the capital back in country A. His hand has recovered or at least that's what his recent break through shows. I don't know about that but it will cause a bit of trouble later on with how the injury was back then. He had to have back to back surgery after we left and nearly lost his arm. " Hey Lira" James yelled as i passed by the the school gate. " Hi James." i said. " Ready for tomorrow?" he asked. " Not really" I replied. " Don't worry, you will do great with your speech." he said. I have to give the valedictorian speech tomorrow. " I hope so. Have you seen page?" i asked. I met James and Page a year after i completed my undergraduate. They were in their second year of grad school. " She's probably sucking her boyfriend's face as we speak. She said she wants to break up with him tomorrow" he said with a laugh. " Poor guy. What's happening with you and your boyfriend?" i asked. " His family said that they will approve of our relationship when he fathers two kids for them. He agreed so i broke up with him " he said indifferently as if he was just a bystander. " Maybe he wanted to stall for time and i thought that you also wanted kids. " i said. " I do but on my own terms. We just graduated and i want to focus on my career first before anything else." he said. " Have you spoken to him about it?" i asked. " i did but he wants the whole thing. Marriage, kids and family. My family has no problem with my sexuality and support my dreams regardless of whatever it is i want to be. His family is the opposite, he doesn't like accounting but he was forced into taking it so he can help his father with his business while his brother was forced to study business. I know for a fact that he's BI no matter how he tried to hide it. That's why he has no problem with having kids now. Anyway enough about me, what's going on, my old man just call me and said that we'll be attending your engagement party in country B." he said and i nearly fell when i heard his last sentence. " Did he tell you who the groom is?" i asked. " He refused to tell me and said that he swore to his now best friend. Remind me how these two knew each other?" he asked. " They met at our debate competition." i replied as we went on our way to the cafeteria. This might be our last meal here. " I heard you got in to the PhD program in country B?" he asked. " I applied to different countries to see which one has a great offer and haven't decided yet." i said. " here comes Page" he said with a snort. " You broke up with Michael?" page said as soon as she sat down. " How did you know?" james asked. " He and my boyfriend are bff's remember? He badged in on us with snort all over. " Weren't you about to break up with him?" James asked. " I was but i am too lazy to be single anyway. I'll let society do it for us." she said with a blush. I shook my head knowing full well that Leonard won't allow that. These two are meant for each other and neither one them can live without the other. " So you decided which hospital you'll be working at?" i asked her. She's a pediatrician. " I have two offers." she said with a smile.
