Chapter Six

1425 Words
Dragging her feet, Skylar made her way out of the school doors, heading toward the parking lot where Jackson was stood, leaning against the passengers door as he waited for her, a group of girls clustered around him giggling loudly. Rolling her eyes, Skylar trudged over to the car, clearing her throat as she approached to inform the Alpha’s groupies of her arrival. Ignoring her, the she wolves continued to fawn over Jackson who looked unbelievably bored. ‘Excuse me’ Skylar growled loudly drawing everyone’s eyes to her. ‘School bus is over there Omega, you can walk around us’ one of the girl’s replied, flipping her dyed purple hair over her shoulder and turning away as the other girls sniggered. ‘Are you ready to go Sky?’ Jackson asked stepping through the crowd and grabbing her arm, steering her back to the passenger side door and opening it for her as all the she wolves glared jealously at her. Slipping into the seat quickly, Skylar tucked her feet into the foot well as Jackson shut the door after her, walking around he quickly jumped into the drivers seat and started the engine and heading out of his parking space and onto the main road. They drove along for a few minutes in silence, Jackson occasionally clearing his throat, parting his lips to say something before closing it again. ‘Spit it out Jack’ Skylar finally grumbled exasperated. ‘uh, your friend . .’ he started nervously. ‘Alexandra?’ Skylar asked surprised. ‘Yeah, uh Alexandra’ Jackson agreed a slight blush crawling up his neck, ‘um she seems nice’ he said as he studiously stared out of the windscreen. ‘Yeah she is’ Skylar replied with a shrug, ‘doesn’t take any crap and doesn’t care about labels or the pack hierarchy’ she added with a slightly bitter tone to her voice. ‘yeah, yeah’ Jackson agreed quickly, ‘so uh, did she, um mention me?’ he asked. ‘Why would she mention you?’ Skylar asked in return, ‘she met you for like three minutes Jack, what would she want to know about the weird Alpha that likes to stalk me?’ ‘Hey, I don’t stalk you’ Jackson protested, pouting ‘No, everyone from the populars regularly come over to our table to have lunch’ Skylar replied with a smirk. ‘You are my friend and you have been avoiding me, I had no choice but to hunt you down’ Jackson argued defensively. The Omega sighed heavily, ‘I am not sure what the heck we are Jackson, but besties is definitely not it, I don’t know if I'm some sort of charity case for you maybe, or a way for you to show your future underlings that you have a compassionate side but whatever it is, could you just pick someone else to be friends with?’ she asked desperately. Jackson glanced over at her, the hurt in his eyes evident as she squirmed in her seat, ‘why is it so hard for you to believe that I want to be your friend?’ he asked sadly. ‘Because I am not from your world and honestly, all the attention I am getting from your groupies is making me anxious’ Skylar flared back. ‘I told you that I would sort that out’ Jackson said stubbornly ‘And I told you that you cannot protect me all the time Jack!’ Skylar replied exasperatedly, ‘there will always be someone who doesn’t like the fact I am friends with you.’ Pulling over suddenly, Jackson shifted in the chair so that he was facing the Omega, ‘did something happen?’ he demanded suddenly, ‘did someone start with you at school?’ Hesitating for a moment, Skylar slowly shook her head, ‘no Jack, no-one has said anything at school’ she replied in defeat. ‘Are you sure Skylar? Tell me!’ he demanded, his Alpha tone coming through causing the Omega to shrink into her self slightly. Bowing her head in submission, Skylar shook her head, ‘I swear Alpha, no-one at school has said anything to me about my friendship with you’ she replied carefully. Starting the car again, Jackson continued back to the pack house, the air between them thick as they studiously avoided each others gaze. As soon as they arrived, Skylar grabbed her bag and opened the door, jumping out with a hasty thanks and bolting into the pack house toward the kitchen. Rushing through the door, the Omega threw her bag onto the floor near the back door and grabbed an apron from the pantry, tying it around her waist before presenting herself to a rather surprised Mrs Carter. ‘You are early Skylar’ she said suspiciously. ‘Oh you know, traffic was really light today, not a car on the road’ Skylar babbled back with a grin, looking over her shoulder at the closed kitchen door. ‘hm hmm’ Mrs Carter replied disbelievingly, ‘OK, well get your skinny butt over to the counter and start cutting up that salad for dinner’ she said, shooing the teenager away with the tea towel that she held in her hands. Scooting across the floor, Skylar washed her hands in the spotless stainless steel sink before grabbing a knife and starting to busily chop the pile of cucumbers. ‘Skylar, why did you run away from me?’ came Jackson’s voice suddenly through the quiet causing the Omega to yelp loudly as she jumped and put a deep cut through the palm of her hand with the sharp knife. ‘Oh my Goddess Skylar are you OK?’ Mrs Carter called anxiously, immediately dropping the spoon she was using to stir the chilli that was bubbling softly on the stove and rushing over to where the Omega was holding her cut hand together with her other palm, grimacing. ‘I’m fine Mrs C’ Skylar replied painfully. ‘No you are not, that’s a deep cut’ the Head chef fussed, prising Skylar’s fingers from around the injury and wrapping a clean tea towel around it when she saw the blood dripping out of the cut. ‘To the clinic with you, right now, you might need some stitches to close it up until you heal’ she commanded as Skylar shook her head, glancing over at a worried Jackson. ‘No it’s fine Mrs C, honestly, a few minutes and it will stop’ she replied desperately. ‘Out! Now!’ Mrs Carter ordered sternly, ‘you will go to the clinic and get it cleaned and stitched and then you will go straight home.’ ‘Mrs C! I can’t just leave, I have kitchen duty’ Skylar wailed, pulling out the puppy dog eyes as she held the crimson stained tea towel tighter to her hand. ‘Not today you don’t, if the Alpha asks, I will tell him that you were injured whilst cooking and that I sent you home as no-one wants chilli with a side of werewolf blood, now get out of my kitchen before you bleed on anything else’ she growled back. ‘I’ll take you to the clinic Skylar’ Jackson said, hurrying over and trying to steer her toward the door. ‘You really don’t have too Alpha’ Skylar replied immediately. ‘Yes I do, I made you jump and that is how you got injured so I'm taking you’ Jackson replied stubbornly, grabbing her arm tightly and forcing her toward the kitchen door, only stopping to pick up the Omega’s bag and sling it over his shoulder. ‘OK OK, I'm going’ Skylar huffed in annoyance, keeping her head down as they walked through the foyer, pack members staring as Jackson supported her through the door and into the grounds, heading toward the pack clinic. ‘You really don’t need to come’ she grumbled in agitation.  ‘Well I'm coming anyway’ Jackson replied sternly causing the Omega to mutter under her breath as she was forcefully directed by the strong Alpha that still had hold of her.
