Chapter Seven

I feel nothing but dread at his words, but thankfully, he lets go of my arm, and I bend down to check on Elena, Chad, & Dana while Klaus sits on the bleachers again. Then Stefan comes in. Elena: “Stefan…” Stefan: “Klaus.” Klaus: “Come to save your damsel, mate?” Stefan walks toward Klaus. Stefan: “I came to ask for your forgiveness. And pledge my loyalty.” Klaus: “Well, you broke that pledge once already.” Stefan: “Elena means nothing to me anymore. And whatever you ask of me... I will do.” Klaus: “Fair enough.” He gets up and walks down to the floor, making me worry about what he will do. Klaus: “Let’s drink on it.” He takes a few steps toward us. Klaus: “Kill them.[Chad & Dana quickly get up, backing away as he points to them, but Stefan doesn’t move.] What are you waiting for? Kill them.” Elena: “No! Stefan, don’t. He’s not going to hurt me. He already said--” Klaus cuts Elena off by backhanding her so hard that she goes flying and falls to the ground with a scream. I run over to her, ensuring she is okay as Stefan runs at Klaus, trying to attack him, but Klaus quickly stops him, grabbing him by the throat. Klaus: “She means nothing to you? Your lies just keep piling up.” Stefan: “Let her go! I’ll do whatever you want! You have my word!” Klaus: “Your word doesn't mean much. I lived by your word all summer, during which time I never had to resort to this... Stop fighting.” Stefan: “Don’t do this. Don’t do this.” Klaus: “I didn’t want to. All I wanted was your allegiance. Now I’m going to have to take it.” Stefan: “Don’t...Don’t…” Klaus: “[compels] You will do exactly as I say when I say it. You will not run, you will not hide, you will simply just obey.” He lets go of Stefan, who is now in a daze. Elena: “No. Stefan.” Elena and I tighten our hold on each other, fearing what is about to happen. Allison: “Oh no.” Klaus: “Now kill them, Ripper.” Klaus gestures to Chad and Dana. Stefan immediately runs at them and drinks both dry, starting with Dana. As he finishes off Chad, Klaus bends down next to us. Klaus: “It’s always nice to see a vampire in his true element. The species has become such a broody lot.” Elena: “No. You did this to him.” Klaus: “I invited him to the party, sweetheart. He’s the one dancing on the table.” Allison: “Not by choice.” We stand up as Rebekah comes bursting through the doors. Rebekah: “Where is it?! Where’s my necklace?” We all look at her, and Klaus walks toward her as she storms toward us. Klaus: “What are you talking about?” Rebekah: “She has my necklace. Look.” She hands him a phone. Klaus: “Well, well. More lies.” Allison: “What necklace?” Klaus shows me and Elena the necklace in the photo they are talking about. Rebekah: “Where is it?” Elena: “I don’t have it anymore.” Rebekah: “You’re lying!” She lunges and attacks Elena’s neck. I pull Elena back as Klaus pulls his sister away. Klaus: “Knock it off!” Rebekah: “Make her tell me where it is, Nik!” He takes a calming sigh as he turns to us. I am holding Elena, trying to comfort her as she is trembling in fear and pain. Klaus: “Where’s the necklace, sweetheart? Be honest.” Elena: “I’m telling the truth. Katherine stole it.” Klaus: “Katerina. Of course. Well, that’s unfortunate. If we had the necklace, it would make things a whole lot easier for your witch, but since we’re doing this the hard way, let’s put a clock on it, shall we?” He walks over, turns on the gym’s scoreboard, and starts the timer. Then, he walks toward Stefan. Klaus: “20 minutes. If Bonnie hasn’t found a solution by then, I want you to feed again. Only this time, I want you to feed on Elena. You know you want to.” Then he walks toward us. Elena: “No, Klaus. Don’t do this to him!” Klaus: “No one leaves.” He grabs my arm and drags me along with him and Rebekah toward the exit. Klaus: “If she tries to run, fracture her spine.” Allison: “No! Klaus, you can’t!” I try to break free of his grip to get to Elena, but his grip never falters. He throws me over his shoulder as we leave the gym. Klaus: “Rebekah, go watch Tyler and Caroline.” My ears perk up at the mention of my sister. Rebekah groans and leaves. He sets me on my feet but doesn’t let go of my arm. Allison: “What did you do to my sister? Where is she?!” Klaus: “Relax, love. Caroline is fine. As long as Elena doesn’t do anything stupid and Bonnie succeeds, they will all be fine. Now we are going to find Bonnie.” We eventually find Bonnie and Matt right outside the pool room. Matt: “She said that Elena shouldn’t have survived Klaus’ ritual. The hybrids can’t transition because Elena’s still alive.” Bonnie: “Tyler…” Matt: “He’s gonna die, isn’t he?” Klaus: “I wouldn’t be too sure about that. Given the choice, doppelganger or hybrid, I go hybrid every time.” I am so stunned that I can’t even form words. I have to choose between my little sister’s boyfriend/a childhood friend, or a friend so close to me that she’s almost like a little sister. Klaus vamp-speeds away before I can even react. Allison: “Tyler or Elena? I can’t make that kind of choice.” Bonnie holds my arms. Bonnie: “Allison, look at me. Look at me. [Makes me look into her eyes] Everyone will make it out alive.” I start taking deep breaths with Bonnie coaching me through it. After I have calmed down enough, I thank her and run off to find my sister. Along the way, I am stopped by Klaus. Klaus: “There you are, love. I thought you might like to know that Elena and Tyler are alive, along with your friends and sister. The doppelganger’s blood is the key to the transition.” Allison: “Oh, thank god.” I practically fall into his arms because of how relieved I am. He holds me by my arms as I look up at him. Klaus: “It’s time to go, love. We have to take Elena to the hospital.” Allison: “What do you mean? I thought you said…” Klaus: “She’s fine, I just need her blood. Don’t worry, I’m not going to kill her.” Allison: “No, but I bet you are only planning on using her as a human blood bag now, aren’t you?” Klaus: “That is the plan, which means I need her alive. Of course, I’m taking you with me.” He picks me up and vamp-speeds us to the hospital, where we meet up with Rebekah while Elena is inside, getting her blood drained. Rebekah and I are sitting on the car trunk, and Klaus is pacing beside it as we wait for the nurses to finish with Elena. Rebekah: “So the doppelganger isn’t the problem. Her blood is the solution.” Klaus: “Seems so.” Rebekah: “How did you know?” Klaus: “Well, you know how much the original witch hated me. Do you honestly think I would do anything other than the opposite of what she says?” Rebekah: “A thousand years in the grave, and she’s still screwing with you.” Klaus: “Well, it makes sense if you think about it from her perspective. It was her failsafe in case I ever broke the hybrid curse. The doppelganger had to die in order for me to become a hybrid, but if she was dead…” Rebekah: “Then you couldn’t use her blood to sire yourself a new species.” Klaus: “Leaving me alone for all time.” Rebekah: “Is that what this is about? Your obsession with hybrids. You just don’t want to be alone?” I notice his eyes start to tear up before he deflects his emotions. Klaus: “What I want is to take my girl[gestures to me], my doppelganger, and my hybrid the hell out of this one pony town. You know, why don’t you, uh, why don’t you get the truck, Rebekah? I’ll get Elena.” She hops off the car and leaves. Klaus: “So I have you and your friends to thank, Allison, for keeping Elena alive.” I look up at the sky, ignoring him. Allison: “We were protecting her from you. No need to thank us.” Klaus: “Regardless, don’t keep secrets from me, love. Next time, there will be consequences.” I huff as he walks toward the hospital, only to pause mid-step. Klaus: “Well, look who finally decided to attend the party.” Damon walks around the car. Allison: “Damon,” He briefly looks at me before focusing on Klaus. Damon: “Where is she?” Klaus: “Elena? Ah, she’s making a donation to a greater cause.” Damon tries to walk past Klaus, but Klaus stops him, putting a hand on his chest. Klaus: “I’m afraid I can’t let you interfere, mate.” Damon: “You’ll have to kill me.” Klaus: “Oh, I would love to kill you, but I made a pledge to your brother, and unlike him, I keep my word. Although, you know what, thinking about it now, he probably doesn’t care that much anymore.” Klaus vamp-speed shoves Damon down onto a car, in a chokehold, and I jump off the car, trying to stop him from killing Damon. Allison: “Klaus, please don’t kill him!” Klaus: “Stay out of this, Allison.” He lifts his arm, about to plunge his hand into Damon’s chest, when Damon interrupts him. Damon: “Don’t you want to know about your friend Mikael?” Klaus freezes with a shocked look on his face. Klaus: “What do you know about Mikael?” Damon: “Just that he knows you’re here.” Klaus: “You’re bluffing.” Damon: “Katherine and I found him. Consider it our leverage.” Klaus throws Damon into a car before vamp-speeding, picking me up, grabbing the blood bags that were already done, and leaving town.
