Chapter Nine

The following day, Klaus comes to pick me up in his car.

Allison: “So, where are we going?”

Klaus: “Well, I thought we could stay in Mystic Falls. I have my hybrids building a house, as we speak.”

My eyes widen in shock, and I hug him.

Allison: “Thank you, Klaus. This truly means a lot to me.”

Klaus: “For now, I’m going to drop you off at your house while I get my siblings from the truck.”

Allison: “Alright. I need to get back to work anyhow. It’s been four months.”

Klaus: “You know you don’t have to work, right? I can provide anything you could ever want, love.”

Allison: “Thank you for the offer, but I prefer to earn things myself. I happen to love my job.”

Klaus: "I can see that. What is it you do exactly?"

Allison: "I'm an event planner."

Klaus: "I definitely see why you love your job. You're very good at it."

Allison: "Thank you, Klaus."

Klaus: "You can call me Nik, love. I have a few things to sort out, so hopefully, I will see you tonight."

Allison: "We'll see, Nik."

We pull into my driveway, and he kisses my hand before I get out of the car and go inside.

I decide to do my morning routine that I used to do before I met Klaus and get to work, which I am so far behind on. I call a few clients and make appointments for the week until I hear a noise coming from outside.

I open my front door to find Damon fighting with Daniel, which confuses me since I don’t know why they are here.

Allison: “Damon, Daniel! Break it up!”

Daniel backs off from Damon, and Damon glares at him before turning his attention to me.

Allison: “What are you two doing here?”

Damon: “I came to see if you are okay, only to find this freakshow here.”

He gestures to Daniel.

Daniel: “Klaus asked me to watch over you.”

Damon: “Your bodyguard here wouldn’t even let me knock on the door.”

Allison: “I don't know why Klaus would think I need a bodyguard, but I don’t. You can leave Daniel. I’ll be fine. Damon, come on in.”

Daniel: “I can’t do that. Klaus’ orders.”

Allison: “Well, you can let Damon in. He won’t hurt me.”

Daniel: “It’s a safety risk. I can’t allow him in there without my supervision.”

Allison: “What exactly were Klaus’ orders?”

Daniel: “To make sure you remain safe and unharmed. Seeing as the problem right now is Stefan, I can’t allow his brother to be alone with you.”

Damon: “Oh please, I wouldn’t hurt her for Stefan. If Stefan wanted to hurt her, he could do it himself. He’s been invited in.”

Allison: “Now, be a good hybrid and stay out here if that’s what Klaus wanted you to do.”

I let Damon come in, and as he walks past Daniel, he gives him a smirk.

Allison: “Why are you here, Damon?”

Damon: “Well, it appears my brother stole Klaus’ coffins to get back at him. I wanted to make sure you were safe.”

Allison: “I’m fine. Apparently, I have a bodyguard now.”

Damon: “So, how did you get away from him?”

Allison: “I didn’t. He let me come home. He said he’s going to stay in Mystic Falls. He wants to try to win my love and knows he can’t force it.”

Damon: “Huh? Good to know. Could use that in the future. Don’t tell Stefan. He might try to do something if he knows. Well, I have to go find my baby bro. Try to stay away from Stefan for now.”

Allison: “Thanks for the heads-up. I’ll do my best.”

As I finish my new project, I hear heels clicking on my floor before I see my sister barging into my office carrying two bags.

Caroline: “Hey, I’m ready to go.”

Allison: “To go where?”

Caroline: “Shopping, of course. Don’t tell me you got too into work and forgot.”

Allison: “Sorry, I did. I’ll be ready in a second.”

Caroline: “Fine. I’ll wait in the living room. Also, what’s with the hybrid on the porch?”

Allison: “Apparently, Klaus assigned him to be my bodyguard. I’ll tell you all about it during our shopping spree.”

Caroline: “Okay, is he coming with us?”

Allison: “Unfortunately, yes. But we can make him carry all the bags.”

Caroline: “Fair enough.”

We giggle, and I get ready before we get in my car and go to the mall with Daniel as our chauffeur/bodyguard. I told Caroline all about the situation that Damon told me about, and she is worried now as we are shopping for clothes.

Caroline: “I can’t believe all this is happening, and no one told me anything.”

Allison: “I’m sure if Klaus wasn’t into me, I’d be as clueless as you are about everything. They were trying to keep as many people out of it as possible. Matt doesn’t even know about any of it.”

Caroline: “Yeah, but it sucks to be left out. Especially if I could actually help.”

Allison: “I know. Hey, so how are you and Tyler?”

Caroline: “Don’t even get me started. He’s being so foolish right now. He trusts Klaus over everyone else. He’s just a lapdog for him and won’t listen to me.”

Allison: “It’s the sire bond, right?”

Caroline: “Yeah.”

Daniel: “The sire bond isn’t a bad thing.”

We both turn to look at him, pretty ticked off.

Caroline: “No one was talking to you, Mr. Bodyguard.”

Allison: “Daniel, not now.”

He rolls his eyes, and honestly, I wish we could just ditch him.

Caroline: “[groans]Can’t we just have a moment of private sister time?”

Daniel: “I won’t leave until Klaus asks me to.”

Allison: “Well then, let me call him right now.”

I find Klaus’ contact in my phone and call him.

K - Allison, to what do I owe this pleasant surprise?

A - Klaus, I am trying to have some private sister-bonding time, and Daniel won’t leave us alone for even a minute. Call him off duty now

K - I’m afraid I can’t fulfill your request, love. It is purely for your safety that he is even there. Of course, I could trade places with him if you would like me to

I see Caroline shaking her head while mumbling ‘unbelievable.’

A - Klaus, seriously? Caroline is a vampire. She can protect me, and I trust her more than Daniel. Please call him off, even if it’s just for an hour.

K - Alright, love. Give the phone to Daniel.

A - Thank you.

I hand the phone to Daniel, who, after a few seconds, says, ‘Yes sir.’ and hands it back to me.

A - Well?

K - Daniel will wait in the car until you two are done shopping and take you home. If anything happens during the time he is away, I will never let this happen again.

A - Fine, I’ll accept those terms. Thank you.

I hang up, and Daniel takes our current bags to the car.

Caroline: “I can’t believe that worked.”

Allison: “Yup, now we just have to stay out of trouble.”

Caroline: “You realize you have Klaus wrapped around your finger. Don’t you?”

Allison: “Not to the point I would prefer.”

We continue our shopping spree and cap it off by getting tonight's snacks, drinks, and movies. When we finally get home, I pour some wine for us and pull out a bowl for the popcorn while she picks out a movie. I bring the stuff to the living room.

Allison: “So, let me guess. You picked Gone with the Wind.”

Caroline: “Of course I did.”

Allison: “Just like old times.”

Caroline: “But with alcohol.”

Allison: “Which makes it so much better.”

After the movie, we watch Legally Blonde.

Caroline: “So, do the others know about you being Klaus’ mate?”

Allison: “No, but Damon knows he is trying to win my heart.”

Caroline: “Not the best person to really know about that. I just hope you stay safe.”

Allison: “And I hope everyone else stays safe.”

Caroline: “You don’t have feelings for Klaus, do you?”

Allison: “I’m not sure. I didn’t during the whole time I was gone, and I don’t want to have any for him, but I do feel a pull toward him. Maybe it’s a mate thing.”

She looks at me sympathetically.

Caroline: “I get it. It’s not like we can choose who we have feelings for. I promise to keep your secret.”

Allison: “Thanks Care. Also, if you and Tyler are meant to be, I’m sure you two will get through this roadblock. If you break up, I’ll be there for you.”

Caroline: “Thanks.”

We hug each other before watching another movie and going to bed.
