Chapter Fourteen - Getting on her last nerve...

Cody    “Jasmine, hurry the f**k up,” I groaned, barging into her room.    “I am just coming, and if you don’t piss off, you can walk to you damn Grandma’s,” She barked at me.    Her parents and Lily had already left about half-an-hour ago. We were supposed to be right behind them, but Jasmine was taking forever, and I was starting to lose my patience.    “We should have left half-an-hour ago,” I groaned.    “Well, maybe if you didn’t hog the damn shower for so long, we would have been away by now,” She snapped.    I wasn’t that long in the shower. She was exaggerating.    “Whatever, hurry up,” I sighed.    “See, the longer you stay here complaining, the longer it will take for me to get ready,” Jasmine said, rolling her eyes.    I muttered curse words under my breath and walked out, heading downstairs to wait for her. I was dreading this long ass drive with Jasmine. It was going to be boring and awkward. We will probably barely speak even two words to one and another. I was looking forward to seeing my Grandma and my mum too.    Ten minutes later, I hear Jasmine finally come downstairs, pulling her small case behind her as she did. I don’t think she needs that much. It is only a couple of days. Girl’s will be girls, though.    “Finally!” I said.    Jasmine glared at me before barging by me and heading outside. She got everything into the car, and I did the same before we climbed in.    “Let’s get this over with,” She whined and got us on the road.    “Can we stop for food and coffee, please?” I asked.    “Yeah,” She said.    Neither of us had time for breakfast. I don’t need to be on the road with Jasmine, who is hungry and not had her caffeine. That is not a good mix. She would be super cranky.    “If you trust me to drive your car, I can take over halfway,” I suggested.    “No, I think I will stick to driving,” She said, “I know what you drive like,” She added, shaking her head.    I could drive. I just didn’t have much luck with cars. My mother was tired of getting my cars fixed or buying me a new one.    “Hey, I am trying to help,” I said, holding my hands up.    Jasmine stifled out a small chuckle and shook her head. At least I got a laugh from her. I smiled and rested back on the seat. I would behave and try not to annoy her too much until after we get food and coffee.                                                       *** We were an hour away from my Grandma’s, and I am surprised we made it this far. I was surprised I am still alive.    “Cody, I swear to God, see if you don’t shut the hell up, I am going to stop this car, throw you out and make you walk,” She hissed.  I was getting on her last nerve. She wasn’t talking, and even when I tried conversation, she didn’t reply with much, so what did I do? I started listing the girls from school I have hooked up with. It was her fault. If she kept the conversation going, I wouldn’t have to find other things to talk about.    “I think it is only fair you tell me the guys you have hooked up with at school,” I said.    I don’t think I have ever seen her with a guy from school, to be honest, or maybe I haven’t noticed.    “None of your business,” She said firmly.   “I don’t think I have seen you with anyone,” I said.    “That is because you are all the same, immature assholes,” She said.    “Thanks,” I said sarcastically.   Jasmine shrugged and left the conversation at that. I wasn’t done yet, because I was curious about something. And at least if I ask her while she is driving, she can’t slap me.    “Can I ask you something?” I asked.    “It doesn’t matter if I say no, Cody, you are still going to ask,” She said.    She has a point. Even if she did say I was allowed to ask her something, I would ask anyone.    “Are you still a virgin?” I asked.    “Yes,” She said simply.    I had a feeling she was, but at the same time, I was surprised because she has guys falling at her feet.    “Why?” I asked.    “Why not? Just because you screw around, it doesn’t mean I need too,” She said, “I am not wasting my time on guys from our school. I am also not ready, and I will not do it because everyone else is,” She added.    I smiled when she said that because Jasmine has always been that way. She has never followed what everyone else is doing, and because of that, I will always respect her.    “Good on you,” I said.    “Are you taking the piss out of me?” She asked.    “No, I am being honest,” I said.   Jasmine gave me a smile before putting all her attention back on the road. There was a silence again.    “But hey, if you change your mind about it, you know where I am,” I said, smirking.    “I would not lose my virginity to you if you were the last guy on earth because I know where you have been, Cody,” She said.    I probably should be offended by what she said to me, but I couldn’t help but laugh. Jasmine started laughing too. I would happily take it from her. I got her first kiss. We could add that to the list. I decided to leave it there because I didn’t want our laughing turning into something else, like her getting pissed off at me again.  “We should go down to the lake when we are there,” I suggested, “I wonder if the tree swing is still there,” I added.    “Maybe, we will see,” She said.    We spent a lot of time there when we were visiting my Grandparents when we were younger. My Grandpa made the tree swing, and sadly we lost him a couple of years ago.    “OK,” I sighed.    Maybe I should stop trying to make an effort. I don’t even know why I was. Jasmine has made her mind up about me, and I don’t blame her, but I think a part of me hoped that maybe somehow, we could at least be friends again. I know we will not ever go back to how it used to me, but I would take anything.    I turned to watch out of the window. I was going to keep my mouth shut for the rest of the ride. It was for the best. I would probably either annoy her, irritate her, or get blown off. I don’t want things turning to s**t this weekend, not around my Grandma. She doesn’t need that, and she thinks the world of Jasmine.    I know she will try to get Jasmine and me to sort things out because she hates us not being close anymore, but it won’t work.    “Maybe we could take Lily down to the lake. I am sure she would love it,” Jasmine said suddenly.    “I think she would love it,” I said, smiling.    “We can go down tomorrow,” She said.    “Sounds good,” I replied.    Maybe this weekend isn’t going to be as awkward as I thought.
