Chapter 4

Dean woke up the next morning in an even worse mood than usual. He skipped his normal appearance in the dining hall and went right to his office, calling an omega and asking if they could bring him his breakfast there. He had been working for about an hour when his door flew open and Matt came inside balancing a tray on one arm. "Ever heard of knocking?" Dean shouted at him. "Why yes I have, but my arms were full." "Not too full to throw the door open though?" "It's a heavy tray." Dean looked at him with one eyebrow raised, clearly displaying his annoyance, "what? It is, alpha's eat a lot." "I believe I asked the omegas to bring me my breakfast, not you." "Yes you did, but the poor girl was standing outside your door looking like she was plucking up the courage to come in so I saved her the trouble. One would think you'd be in a better mood given that you met your mate last night." "First of all, the omegas have no reason to be scared of me and we both know it -" "That doesn't mean you aren't intimidating on a good day." Matt cut him off. "Secondly," Dean continued, as though Matt hadn't spoken, "I am obviously happy I found my mate, but in case it has escaped your notice she is not here with me she is back in her shitty apartment completely unaware of my existence." "I mean technically she's not unaware of you since you ran up on her like a wolf last night. Pun intended." "I swear to the Goddess I need a new beta." "Nah, I'm the best one out there." "Debatable. Is there a reason you're here?" "Yes, actually I'm here about your mate." "What about her?" "I have a plan on how you can woo her." "I'll come up with my own plans for getting her thanks." "Come on, seriously let me help you. You're going to have to approach this like a human male. You can't go all Alpha on her and think she'll respond positively. That s**t only happens in romance novels. Plus, human women are much more careful around men than shewolves are. You can't just walk up to a stranger and ask her out. Chances are it will creep her out." Well s**t, Dean hadn't really thought about any of that. He knew he'd have to approach mating her differently but this was a whole new ball game for him. "Fine," he said begrudgingly, "what did you have in mind?" "I was thinking we should go back out to the bar tonight. Hear me out" he said raising his hand when Dean opened his mouth to interrupt him. "Xander is going to go crazy if he doesn't get to see his mate and we don't want that happening. I think though that this time we take Kate and ask if she has any other girlfriends that want to come. Mated girlfriends, that is. We don't want any girls that will be hanging all over you or flirting with you. That will just make her think you're taken, or a playboy." "Okay, but why do we need to take them? Can't we just go? I'll still be able to see her." "Because my dear, sweet, naive alpha we don't want her to be intimidated by us. If she sees us hanging out with other women she'll know we're okay. A group of women aren't going to hang around with a bunch of assholes." Dean had to admit he was a little impressed with that logic, "not the worst plan you've ever had." He told him begrudgingly. "Whatever, it's fantastic and you know it. I'll hit up Kate when I leave and we'll work it all out." "Wait, before you go. Peter has a human mate doesn't he?" "The omega from the daycare center?" "Yes." "Umm, actually yes he does, that's right. Why?" "Will you see if he will be open to him and his mate meeting me for a discussion?" Matt narrowed his eyes at him, "Dean, he may be an omega but he won't take kindly to you upsetting his mate." "Why would you think I'm going to upset her?" "Because I know how you are. You barely have the tact to deal with wolves about sensitive information and humans tend to be a little more sensitive than we are. They're not as open about talking about mating either." "I don't plan to ask them about mating, I just want to know if she had any type of pull towards him when they met. The Moon Goddess obviously chose a human for him so does that human also feel anything like the mate bond?" "I'm sure we have books on this." "I'm sure we do, but I'd like a firsthand account." "As long as you are pleasant about it." This was one of the reasons he liked having Matt as his beta so much. He wasn't a yes man, he would stand by his pack and make sure his alpha was not abusing his power. As alpha he had the power to force Peter and his mate to come and speak with them but he would never do that, and Matt would never allow it if he tried. As much s**t as he gave him, Matt really was a perfect beta in that regard. "If I promise to be pleasant will you please leave and send Peter the message?" "Yes I will. Let me know how that goes." "Will do." "We'll leave at ten tonight." "Fine, now get out."
