Chapter 5

Dean had a strong sense of deja Vu as they drove back to the same bar to meet his mate again. This time though, Kate and two other mated wolf pairs joined them as well as a few mated shewolves without their mates. Matt said they needed more females than males to make sure his mate was comfortable and thought the guys were cool if they were hanging with a group of women. It didn't make sense to him but anything to see his mate. He knew she was working tonight because the warrior they had on her had confirmed she was leaving for work a few hours earlier. Xander was going crazy in his head. The closer they got, the more frantic he became. "Could you please settle down, you're giving me a headache." He practically begged Xander. "No, I'll settle down when we see mate." Dean groaned out loud. "What's wrong?" Matt asked. "Xander is going crazy. He really wants to see our mate." "I'm not surprised, honestly." "I'm not totally surprised either, but it's more than just being excited. It's almost like he's on edge about something and I don't like that. I know enough about his feelings to know that something's up. I just hope it doesn't have anything to do with our mate." "I'll alert Josh, he's in charge of the warriors tonight, he can make sure they're on full alert. And we'll be with your mate if anything happens." "Okay, I suppose you're right." They pulled up to the bar next to the car carrying the rest of their group and headed inside. Dean's heart was almost beating out of his chest as he smelled the scent of his mate. God he didn't know how he was going to keep Xander from taking over and marking her. "Which one is she?" Kate asked, looking around for his mate. Dean nodded towards the bar as he saw her walk in from the back kitchen area. As though she could sense him she looked up and made eye contact with him, then stumbled forward with the tray she was carrying. Dean was up and moving before he knew it, using his speed to make it to her before she fell. He caught her and steadied her before taking a step back and looking down at her. She blushed and her breathing picked up, but he wasn't sure if she felt any pull. s**t, he really wished he had talked to Peter today instead of putting it off until tomorrow. "Th-thank you" she stuttered out. "No problem..." he trailed off hoping she'd fill in her name. "Sophie, well Sophia, but most people call me Sophie." "Sophia" he said letting her name linger in his mouth. He f*****g loved her name. "Beautiful name, matches the woman who has it." She blushed again at his words and he decided he needed to get her over to his table to see him with with his friends. "Can I get a round of beers for that table over there?" "Sure," she said turning around to go get the beer and presenting him with a view of the best ass he had ever seen. He groaned and turned back around to head to his table despite Xander's pleas to go after Sophia. "So how did it go?" Kate asked. "Fine, she's bringing drinks over for us in a few minutes. Do you think you can keep her here for a few minutes chatting? Just ask her some questions about being new in town?" "Anything for you Alpha" she said, teasing him. They all knew he hated the formalities that other packs used when addressing ranked members. Kate and Matt frequently made jokes out of it. A few minutes later, Sophia walked over with a tray of beers and Kate immediately began the inquisition. "So Sophie, are you new around here?" Kate asked, having been told by Sophia to call her Sophie. Good Dean didn't want to hear the name Sophia on anyone else's lips. He didn't care if they were male or female, mated or unmated, Sophia was for him and him alone. "Is it that obvious?" She asked with a small smile. "Oh no not all," Kate answered. "We just come to this bar a lot and I haven't seen you around. I guess that wouldn't mean you're not from around here though. You could just be a new employee. I didn't even think about that." "It's okay" Sophia chuckled, "I am new I moved here from the Midwest." "How are you liking it so far?" Dean asked, deciding it seemed safe to enter the conversation. He looked up to see Matt giving him a thumbs up and he rolled his eyes at him. She looked at him, her cheeks turning pink as she blushed. He wanted to know why she was blushing. Could she tell he wanted to ravage her and lick every part of her body until she trembled with need? Or maybe she could feel the mate bond and was insanely attracted to him as well? "I like it. Everyone has been really nice so far, and I'm really enjoying the regulars at the bar. They are all so welcoming and really funny." "That's good," Dean said a little more harshly than he intended. He didn't want anyone else making her laugh. That was his job, not theirs. "Yeah, well I better get back to the bar. Don't want to ditch the other bartender during the rush. I'll see you guys later." Then she turned and left. These moments weren't going to be enough, he needed more. Xander needed more. Before he knew what he was doing he stood up and started heading towards her, only to be stopped by Kate and Matt. "Ok there buddy. I know that look in your eyes, it's the same one you got last time we came here and you ran up on her and scared her. You have got to...ah shit." Matt said seeing that his eyes were starting to change color. "Xander," he said speaking quietly and losing all humor in his voice. "You have got to give Dean control back, she is human, you have to be patient." "I've been patient" Xander said, his voice cracking like a whip. "I want my mate." "Even if it scares the hell out of her and makes her run from you?" Kate chimed in. "I will find her if she runs." "And she might end up hating you for it." Kate continued. "Come on I think you need to give Dean back control and we can go wait outside. The others can go home and we'll stay until she leaves, make sure she gets home, and then we'll go back and work on a plan to break the news to her." Kate told him. "You say that Kate, but Matt said the same thing last time and here we are again. Shall we just do this every night with a different member of my pack telling me the same thing until I'm old and gray?" "Okay ya overdramatic oaf, that was Matt, I will actually help you come up with a plan." "Hey," Matt objected, "I had a good plan coming here tonight I just didn't think Xander would pop in and refuse to leave." "Whatever" Kate rolled her eyes, "come on let's go." "Fine" Xander said, his eyes finally returning to the soft brown of Dean's. "s**t, thanks" Dean said. "No problem, mates make you crazy" Kate said. They headed outside to wait while the others headed back. Kate stayed with Dean and Matt waiting for Sophia to leave. Xander continued to whine, it felt like he was pacing back and forth and he was on edge once more. "You okay?" Matt asked. "No, Xander is on edge again. I can't tell if it's something serious or he just wants to see Sophia." He said, just as she walked out of the bar. "Go to mate now!" Xander snarled. Dean sat up straight, "Xander wants me to go to her now. It doesn't seem like he just wants to see her, something is wrong." They all knew Xander well enough to listen to his instincts and as soon as they opened their doors they smelled it, the putrid smell of sulfur in the air. "f*****g rogues." Dean whispered in a low gravely voice. No sooner had he said that than two men approached Sophia as she walked towards her car. They spoke to her in hushed tones for a moment before one of them reached out and grabbed her arm. Dean saw red as he ran towards them. He watched as she tried to get away and they held tighter, as she yelled for help one of them put their dirty hands over her mouth. "Let her go and leave," Dean growled out as he got closer to them. He felt Matt and Kate step up on either side of him in a show of force. The rogues laughed, "so it's true, the mighty Alpha has a pathetic human for a mate." Sophia had been struggling to get away but turned to look at them, clearly confused by what they were saying. "I don't give second chances" Dean said before taking another step forward. The two men, who must have had a death wish shifted and ran at them leaving Sophia to fall down to the ground. Matt and Kate immediately shifted as well and Loki, Matt's wolf, inclined his head towards Sophia. Dean ran to her, confident that Matt and Kate could handle the rogues. Sure enough, the fighting lasted only two minutes before they were shifting back. "What in the, what is, what did I just see? Am I hallucinating? That's it that must be it." Sophia said rambling and looking everywhere but at Dean. "You're not hallucinating baby." He told her, she looked at him in shock before passing out in his arms. "So much for taking it slow." Matt said standing there naked next to Kate, neither of them particularly shy, but being at a human bar they couldn't linger out here like this. "I'll get her keys and drive her and her car back to the packhouse. You two take the Jeep back." Dean told them. "Are you sure that's a good idea?" Kate asked him. "I'm not leaving her here when she was clearly targeted by rogues tonight." He snarled out. "I guess you have a point. Let's get going then before someone sees us and calls the cops." Dean put Sophia into the back seat of her car and laid her down. Then he got in the driver's seat and took off towards the packhouse, hoping that when she woke up he would be able to come up with way to explain this to her.
