Sophia woke up on a bed that felt far too comfortable to be the crappy one she had in her own bedroom, but maybe she was dreaming. Without opening her eyes she reached over and pinched herself, s**t that hurt, definitely not dreaming. She slowly opened her eyes and took in her surroundings. Hmm, she didn't recognize anything around her. She sat up holding her head and shrieked when a voice spoke from the corner.
"How are you feeling?" The words fell from a man's mouth in with a deep gravelly voice that had a flush crossing her cheeks before she remembered what happened last night. Holy s**t men, wolves, men turning into wolves. And then more wolves, a man and a woman. She started hyperventilating. She was going crazy she had to be. "Breathe" the voice said as it got closer. She looked up into a pair of warm brown eyes as hands cupped her cheeks and gently moved her head up. "You need to breathe baby, you're having a panic attack." Breathe? How could she possibly breathe right now? She was going crazy, she needed to be put in an institution. If that wasn't worthy of a panic attack what was?
"Can't..c-can't breathe. I th-think I-I'm going cr-crazy." She managed to choke out around the few breaths she was able to take.
"Look at me," the voice demanded, but she couldn't, she couldn't move. "Look at me" he said more firmly this time, and she felt her head snapping up. "You are not crazy. Now let's try to get you calmed down and we can talk about everything." Talk about everything? What could there possibly be to talk about besides which nut house to pack her off to. "You're not going to a nut house." Oh s**t, she must have said that part out loud.
"I don't understand what's going on. What in the hell is happening?" She said when she finally regained control of her breathing. "I saw, I saw, I don't know what I saw, men and wolves and men turning into wolves. It must have been a magic trick right? Of course" she said quietly, mostly to herself but of course the guy standing there heard her. What was his name again? "What was your name again?"
"Dean," he said with a smirk.
"Ok Dean, level with me. That was some kind of magic trick right? Like this is some kind of magic camp and that's how you graduate, you do a trick so out of this world someone thinks they've gone crazy."
He c****d his head to the side as he looked at her, and he looked slightly impressed if she wasn't mistaken. "The mind is an incredible thing. Look how quickly you created that story to try to explain what you saw. I'm kind of impressed you came up with that on the fly."
"You're making it sound like this is not in fact a magic camp."
"It's not."
"Then what is this?"
"I know you don't want to think about what you saw. I know you're trying to come up with ways to explain it and I wish that we didn't have to do this so soon, but some things are out of our control."
"What do you mean so soon? Please just tell me what's going on because I think I'm going to pass out again."
"What you saw last night was a fight, between werewolves," he said slowly.
She couldn't stop the hysterical laugh that bubbled up inside her. "I'm sorry did you say werewolves?"
"Yes," he said in all seriousness. "You saw it with your own eyes. Do you have a better explanation for what you saw? You're as sane as I am, so I'm afraid you're going to have rule that one out."
"I believe the whole magic camp thing sounds pretty plausible. But since you already said that's out, are you sure you're not also crazy, because if you think you're a man that turns into a wolf on the full moon, you might actually be crazier than me."
"I'm obviously not a man who turns into a wolf during the full moon," he said, and she breathed a small sigh of relief until he continued, "I turn into my wolf anytime I want to."
"Okay, thank you for helping me with those men last night. At least I think you helped me. I don't remember much after they grabbed me and I was suddenly surrounded by wolves."
"That's because you passed out," he interrupted.
"Right, ok, so you did help me thanks. But I really have to go. I definitely need to call my doctor and since you seem to think you're a wolf, perhaps you should as well. I don't know exactly what I saw last night but I'm going to chalk it up to nerves from the move and just leave it in the past." Sophia stood up to leave and was going to ask how to get back to the main road to call a cab when Dean suddenly grabbed her hand and began walking with her towards the door. It took her mouth a moment to catch up to her mind because she was pretty sure she got a big static shock when he touched her, but she brushed that off when she saw they weren't going towards what she was sure was the front doot. "Excuse me, Dean what exactly are you doing?"
"Showing you something." He grunted out, making no sense.
"That's okay, I'm good, I'd rather just get going if you can point me towards the main road to call a cab." He didn't respond, she wasn't ever sure he was listening to her because he seemed to be on a mission. Dragging her through his mansion. Jesus Christ, she thought as she looked around, this place was huge, and seemed to be filled with a lot of people. He brought her out a door that led them out to an open courtyard where one of the guys that was with him at the bar last night seemed to be working out.
"Dean, what's going on?" They guy asked with a confused look on his face.
"I'm trying to tell her what she saw last night but she doesn't seem to believe her own eyes."
"Dean" the guy said, "you can't trust that Xander will hold back."
"He promised he would if he at least gets to meet her, plus that's why I came out here. You and Loki can intervene if anything happens."
"I don't know man."
"Trust me."
"Alright fine, we'll stay right here."
Sophia's eyes were ping-ponging back and forth between the two men trying to follow what they were saying but not really getting it. And who the hell were Xander and Loki? She opened her mouth to insist that he let her leave when all of a sudden he started to change. She couldn't explain what she had seen if she tried, but all of a sudden there was a large black wolf standing in the spot where Dean had been. He was so dark it was like his fur absorbed the light around him, the only other color on him was a small white oval, the size of her palm on his chest. The wolf came up to her and tried to nudge her hand before she took a step backward terrified at what she had seen and wondering if this wolf would hurt her. He sat back on his haunches and whined, looking at her with, was that pain in his eyes?
"He's upset you backed away from him. He would never hurt you." The guy standing in the courtyard told her. She had almost forgotten he was even there.
"What should I do?" She whispered.
"That's up to you, but I think he wants you to touch his fur."
She wasn't sure why, but the look in his eyes had an uncomfortable feeling forming in her chest. She reached her hand out slowly and began to pet this giant creature, feeling that static shock again. And to her complete surprise, he suddenly looked content. What the hell had she gotten herself into now?
