Dean stood there in awe as his mate reached her hand out to touch Xander. "You have to control yourself," he told his wolf.
"Have I not been doing that already?" Xander snapped at him.
"Okay, okay I guess you have."
"Do you think she feels it? When we touch?" Xander asked, "her touch is heaven."
"We'll have to ask her. I want her to meet Peter and his mate Kristen too. I think Kristen could help her."
"That's fine but can you stop talking now? I want to focus on mate."
Dean chuckled but he gave full control over to Xander. He had been waiting for his mate for as long as Dean and he hadn't really gotten a chance to interact with her yet. Dean's interactions might not have been the best but he has still gotten to be with her more than Xander has. To be honest she seemed to be feeling more at ease with his wolf than she had around him so maybe this was a good way to acclimate her. He watched as Xander lay down on the ground at her feet like a little puppy dog, he was so going to tease him about this later. And then to his surprise she sat down next to him and then stroked his head as he put it her lap. They sat like that for twenty minutes with Matt lingering around in the background before Xander got up and told Dean he could come back. He immediately transformed back and Matt quickly handed him some clothes from a stash they kept outside the packhouse before leaving them alone.
"Do you believe you aren't crazy now?" He asked her gently as he went to sit beside her.
"Honestly no, but I suppose seeing it with my own eyes in the light of day really leaves no room for interpretation. So I guess I'm sitting here talking to a werewolf."
"We do have another human in our pack. Her name is Kristen. If you're up for it I thought we could go see her and her mate?"
"I guess it would be nice to talk to another human but I have so many questions I'm going to need you to answer for me before I meet any other new people or see anymore wolves. Although judging by what you just said about having another human in the pack, I'm guessing most everyone I have seen today is a werewolf?"
"Yes, every person you have seen is a wolf."
"And your wolves, are they like their own, I guess person isn't the right word, maybe personality?"
"Yes, they're like their own entity that lives within each of us."
"And they have their own names? Is that who you were referring to when you told that other guy something about a Xander, and whatever that other name was."
"Right again, my wolf is Xander and that guy was Matt, my beta. His wolf's name is Loki."
"Beta?"
"Yeah, I'm not sure how familiar you are with wolf packs, regular wolf packs that is."
"I mean I know what wolf packs are. I wouldn't say I'm like familiar with them."
"Well, in a wolf pack there is a hierarchy-"
"Oh like the Alpha and stuff, I do know that much!" She interrupted him, it was cute the way her face got red when she was excited.
"Exactly. A werewolf pack has a lot of the same similarities. We all function together for the good of the pack and we have an Alpha that is the head of the pack and then a Beta and a Gamma. These are our ranked members. Then we have other members of the pack that fight, those are our warriors, and then we have Omegas then do more of the menial tasks around the pack. Every single member of this pack is important. But not every pack functions like ours. There are of course those packs which view the lower ranks as beneath them, forgetting that without Omegas much of the pack work would be at a standstill. They provide essential functions which keep our pack operating and the higher ranking wolves provide safety and protection for them."
"Okay, that's a lot. How many members of your pack are there?"
"We have just over 1,000 members."
"Wow that's huge. And what is your position in the pack?"
He smirked before answering her, "I'm the Alpha baby."
"Oh that's cool congratulations." He laughed at that, it was refreshing to speak to someone who didn't care about his rank. "Can you tell me more about the pack lands I guess, is that the right term? I had heard rumors about this place being a commune but I don't think that's an accurate description."
"No, it's not." He told her before describing the inner workings of their land. The businesses they ran to sustain things like the pack hospital and daycare center, and the living situations for everyone there. She seemed impressed by everything that he said and he had to admit that after the freakout she had earlier, he was surprised she was so calm and collected about everything now.
"Can I ask you one more question?"
"You can ask me as many questions as you'd like."
"My head is swimming with them but I think just one more for today is about all I can handle."
"Okay, what is it?"
"You mentioned the human in your pack had a mate. What exactly does that mean?"
"I'm sure you're familiar with different gods and goddesses in religions you've encountered?"
"Yes," she answered as a slightly scared look crossed her face. He would have to tuck that away to ask her about later.
"Well, our kind were created by the Moon Goddess. The Moon Goddess gave every wolf a mate, like what you might call a soul mate. They are each other's missing piece. Wolves hardly ever reject their mates once they find them and are immediately drawn to each other. Not all wolves are mated to someone from their pack though so while we have been granted these mates, that's not to say that we always find them. Sometimes a wolf will live out their life with a chosen mate. That is what I had intended to do, until I met you."
"Me?" She asked, tilting her head to the side and raising her eyebrow. Well, she already knew about werewolves so there was no time like the present.
"Yes you, you are my mate."
"Holy shit."
