"What does he think of himself ?." She said, slamming her files and laptop on her table. She was freaking out and mad that he didn't like what she did. And she put in so much of her hard work in it.
"He wants something better, I will give him something better." She said, in her anger she sat down on her chair and opened her laptop again. And furious started typing away.
.....................................................................
As evening approached, Georgiana had spent the entire day meticulously revising the details Arthur had criticized her about.
Every change she made seemed to stir up more frustration. Yet, Georgiana recognized the growth she was experiencing through recollecting it. The challenge had pushed her to explore new ideas and solutions she hadn't considered before. Although she was reluctant to admit it, Arthur's criticism had, in a way, been beneficial. But she wasn't going to say it out loud.
With determination on her face, Georgiana made her way to Arthur's office and knocked on the door.
"Come in," Arthur's voice called from inside.
She pushed open the door and stepped in, noticing Marcus already seated with Arthur, deep in conversation. Arthur looked up, a spark of something bright in his eyes at her arrival. Georgiana, however, was focused and serious. She placed the laptop on the desk with all her anger and sat down, wordless the whole time and awaiting Arthur's reaction.
Arthur's gaze was steady as he examined the laptop screen. Every line he reviewed seemed to impress him more. Marcus, who had been observing quietly, couldn't help but smile at Georgiana. She returned his smile politely but was focused on Arthur, her posture challenging him to find any faults in her work.
Arthur's expression softened into a rare smile.
"Rare" smile.
"This is.... impressive, Georgiana." He said in a strict tone, which threw Georgiana off, because it was a compliment. It was unusual for him to give a compliment, and the praise felt oddly unsettling. But geniune.
"I approve of this one," Arthur continued, closing the laptop and handing it back to her.
Georgiana's eyes widened in shock. Her earlier frustration melted away, replaced by confusion and a tentative smile.
"What did you say?" Georgiana asked, her voice trembling slightly.
Arthur nodded.
"The changes you've made are very impressive. I'm willing to go forward with this campaign and marketing strategy."
The weight of his words hit Georgiana like a wave. Her confusion turned into genuine happiness, a smile breaking across her face. Marcus chimed in, his voice loud and enthusiastic. Knowing she didn't believe him.
"It's approved. Great job, Georgiana." Marcus said loudly. And then she got it.
Georgiana had a smile growing even bigger as she could grab onto her laptop looking at Arthur.
As she hesitated, Georgiana looked at Arthur, her brow furrowed with uncertainty.
“Are you sure all of this is really okay?” she asked once more, seeking reassurance. Arthur nodded, his expression calm and his voice steady.
“Everything is fine,” he replied simply, his tone almost soothing.
Georgiana’s gaze flickered between her laptop and Arthur, still grappling with the weight of his approval.
“No corrections to be made?” she inquired, her voice tinged with disbelief. Arthur leaned back in his chair, his demeanor relaxed.
“Absolutely no corrections. You have my approval.”
Despite the calmness in his voice and the affirmation she sought, Georgiana found herself wrestling with an odd sense of unease. It was as if she had conjured an image of him as an ominous figure, expecting only harsh judgments. When he offered praise, it felt almost surreal.
“Are you sure?” she pressed, her voice barely above a whisper.
“Miss Smith,” he interjected gently, “let’s not dwell on it. You’ve done well.”
"Emm, yeah okay."
With a nod, she stood, a bright smile breaking through her earlier tension as she turned to Marcus, her expression radiant. And Marcus had the same expression on him.
However, when she glanced back at Arthur, her smile dimmed slightly, though she still offered him a kind look. Gathering her belongings, she turned and walked away, leaving the two men behind.
Once the door clicked shut, Marcus turned to Arthur, noticing the faint smile playing on his lips.
“Are you smiling?” he teased, raising an eyebrow.
Arthur, in a mock-serious tone.
"Do you have any work to do?." Arthur asked him.
“Of course I do, boss,” Marcus replied, a smirk creeping onto his face as he stood and headed toward the door. Arthur watched him, bemused by his friend’s playful demeanor.
Outside, Marcus hurried to catch up with Georgiana, calling out.
“Georgiana, wait up!” He approached her with a light jog, a playful glint in his eyes. As he got closer, he gently took the laptop and files from her hands, catching her off guard.
“What are you doing?” she asked, a smile breaking across her face.
“Now that your work is done and you gave a fantastic presentation, you must be hungry.” he declared, his enthusiasm infectious.
Georgiana chuckled, shaking her head. “I’m not hungry, actually.” But as if on cue, her stomach let out a soft growl, and her eyes widened in surprise.
Marcus grinned.
“There’s a lovely cake shop nearby. A little break will do you good!”
Her eyes sparkled at the thought of cake, and despite her initial hesitation, she replied.
“Why not?” Marcus beamed, guiding her toward the elevator, and together they made their way down to the main road, laughter trailing behind them.
Meanwhile, Arthur stood by the window, gazing out at the sprawling cityscape, hands tucked into his pockets. He caught sight of Marcus and Georgiana, their laughter filling the air, and a pang of jealousy tugged at him. It was hard not to feel envious of the easy camaraderie they shared. Marcus, with his carefree spirit, was everything Arthur was not.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the city, Arthur couldn’t shake the feeling of curiosity about what Marcus was planning. Yet, despite the flicker of jealousy, he knew that Marcus was like a brother to him. With a final glance back at the sun, Arthur was only very clear that he still had opportunity to be around Georgiana.
